Honestly, I think either a diesel or hybrid powertrain (like the Q50) will most likely be the next option. Both would have nice torque numbers and better fuel economy but I would miss that growl.![]()
The general trend of the industry suggests they will downsize, but who knows.
I agree but Infiniti will be leaving the V8 fight against the other sporty SUV *cough* Cayenne S/ GTS *cough*Agreed, the going trend now is smaller engines with turbos or just keeping it at the 3.xL range. Gas is going up and electric cars are moving in slowly as well.
There's a big change coming and we're in for the ride. Gas isn't getting cheaper that's for sure...
wow, this is surprising. I hope they will eventually introduce an IPL or other type of QX70 replacement to compete against the AMG, M, etc. Fine don't do a V8 but you better come with a better performance package if you are doing this. I'd be really really disappointed in Infiniti if they didn't especially since they are so pro performance.
^ 75% of Infiniti's advertisements talk about inspiration and performance. They live on it. That's why they just hired Sebastian Vettel arguably the best Formula One World racer to be in charge of Director of Performance at Infiniti and for many years help them sell their performance brand. Watch videos from Shiro Nakamura Senior Vice Present of design and brand management. Watch videos from Johan de Nysschen Present of Inifiniti and Alfonso Albaisa executive design director of inifiti. All the videos I've watched in the past 2 years from them speak they emphasize how critical and important performance is to their brand. That's why this was a shocker and/or something HUGE in the making that we will be all surprised with down the pipeline.
Oh yeah, I agree on the marketing side of things but I wonder if that really translates in the reality of their product lines. Let's face it, the Q50s is no better by any measurable standards (0-60, 1/4 mile, braking, slalom, skidpad, your pick) than a 2010 G37s. Seriously, in my opinion, if the sportiest offering beside the now defunct QX70 5.0 is the Q70 5.6... is performance really that present in the product line?
I am not dissing Infiniti as I love their products but I fail to see the performance improvements in the last 5 years...
My 2 cents,
