2006 Shifter Panel Upgrade

My 06 shifter boot and MOMO knob are both exactly like the pic of the brick interior, same color and style. I'll go back and see what I paid for both and send you a PM.

I did this mod over the weekend .... looks great.

Can Dr2k or others that have the MOMO shift knob give more detail on what they did to make the boot "look" better low. I understand about cutting some stitches but wouldnt the opening be really big?

thanks

also I didnt use the extra light that came with the new shifter panel. do we need this to make it brighter? have anyone use this extra wire?

Alan, look at the picture below and this is what my boot looks like after I inverted the boot and opened the stitching just enough to accommodate the movement of the shifter. The leather boot pretty much covers itself and you can't really see under the boot.

thanks, so there is a large hole there, covered by the excess boot material? no need for a lace to close it up?

I didnt cut the stitching yet, and I can move the sifter freely. although it is covering some of the lower chrome...

Yea, the excess leather covers it up pretty well. I didn't do anything to the boot after opening up some of the stitching. I just opened up the stitching as needed after the install and playing with the shifter. I suggest you do it the same way cause you don't need to remove all the stitching just enough so the shifter moves freely and you can see the lower chrome piece on the momo.

addtional info after my install

I can tell you that there will be some glare from the sun if you drive in the afternoon time when the sun is directly above the FX. its not too bad, but did cause me to look down.

otherwise, great looking mod.

I just did the install today. It was pretty easy but there were a few quirks along the way:

The recommended 4x 5/8" screws were too thick to screw into the chrome portion of the shifter. I had to power drill the opening to allow a 4x screw to fit (snuggly might I add). After that it was smooth-sailing but a few words of caution; be careful with the masking tape to hold the shifter in place, some of the glue residue stained the aluminum and also peeled off some of the chrome face.

Also, the shift gate (I don't know what to call it, but it's the portion that fits around the shifter) came dislodged from factory. I installed it like this and had trouble shifting to park I had to wiggle the shifter. After I opened it up again I saw that it wasn't riding on the slide that it was supposed to be on. After that it was smooth sailing.

I set it in place right before the top starts to show the gap and positioned it all the way to the right. I'm able to shift smoothly through all gears including downshifting.

Good luck!
By the way, it's safe to say I'm probably one of the most handicappe diy'ers out there, and if I could do it, anyone can.

Looks like I'm gonna have to do this as well. The plastic piece under my shifter is destroyed. The no longer ride on top of each other and are now thorn.

I'll be giving this a try.

did this upgrade today, took less than an hour, I used 3M double sided tape instead on screws marked in blue, 2 layers of tape overlapping each other created a very strong hold. now i hope it stays that way.
