2003-2008 FX In Cabin Filter Change

I looked this procedure up already and thought this is really complicated, a little surprised, i'm an HVAC designer and think this should be easier ... anyway, I decided not to replace the filter, mine is missing, and I can't see that it makes much difference ... car smells fine, at most the evap would need to be cleaned some, but i have good air

So cleaning the evaporator is easier than replacing the filter and less frequent?

ok, I hear you, however my point was about ease of changing from the design point of view ... should be a door and slide out; i'm not one to drive with my window open, but I get in and out often, and every time you open the door ... well you know; and it takes awhile to get that stuff out; also, in Texas I leave the roof open when I leave the car, and crack the window some, so stuff comes in - and five minutes? really? sorry, for me it's a no ... but I might change my mind one day :)

the oai is covered with a nice lid, they did that right, not much going in there ... little worried about possible battery leak

I changed mine 2 weeks ago, and its like a 10-15 min job and Im no grease monkey. Its not as hard as it seems. But yes, they could've designed it better, but it is what it is.

My apologies, it's more like a 7 minute job. However the dealer would like you to believe it's an hour job :)

With the tight space and so many other things (ECM, AWD unit, their incredible wiring, glove compartment in the way, air ducts ... etc) I do not see any design flaws, it is good that at least it is doable via a DIY and in 10 minutes, and, it does not have to b done that often!.

The design flaw that I saw in the FX45 is the enclosure of air intake filter in the engine bay, you need to dismantle everything around to get to the filter, while they could have just made a door at the top of the filter enclosure facing upwards, so that the filter can be pulled and dropped easily without unscrewing a bolt.

not gonna lie had no idea about this. I guess this'll just be another small project to get done once im back. thanks for the information

I finally did this for the first time. I thought it was never changed, but looking at what appears to be a date code, the dealer must have snuck in a new filter one time when I wasn't looking.

iS is amazing. I just did my first micro cabin air filter change. Though I may have to go back in there as my glove box bulb is out. Is there an LED replacement available for our vehicle's glove box?

The kit's that SPRTFX made came with a custom one. That's what I have installed. Mine was also burnt out in 2012 when I changed it. So obviously the factory bulb doesn't last very long.

I know I ordered a set to include the cabin lights but can't find the dedicated LED. Hope he still make those.

^inefficient filtration and unnecessary strain on the blower since the blower is blowing air towards the stronger resistance side or non porous side. It does not keep pollutants that prevents odor since it is not doing any effective filtration. I think this is what happened to my car as I noticed when I pulled out the old filter it was facing the wrong way. My car was in perpetual slight musky odor for a couple of months now. Incompetent people from the dealership.. smh.

I am hoping that musky odor will go away pretty soon now that I have a new filter and installed the right way.

I think I will attempt this next week since it's been a while since my filter was changed.
