Anyone NOT affected by the bubbling dash?

Hi there,

ever since ownership of the fx45 i have been paranoid as heck about the bubbling dash. my vehicle has never had the dash replaced (fingers crossed that i never have to) and i know that the extended warranty is now over.

I have a 2004 infiniti fx45 with the willow interior.

has anyone out there NOT been affected by the dash bubbling?

it seems like from all the threads i've read that its only a matter of time....so just wondering if its true that this affects all the FX's!

I didn't notice it on my Dash, but a friend of mine who works at a dealer pointed out that mine is very slightly starting to bubble.

Luckily my vehicle is a late production run, so I still have the extended warranty. Gonna take the car in to get the dash replaced at some point soon.

Mine is an 06 and I have one little small bubble on the passenger side that has been there for years and it has never gotten worse or spread. I can push the
bubble down with my finger but it is hardly noticeable. My car is always garaged though for most of the 6+ years I've had it.

When/If it does get worse or start bubbling...I'm gonna have the whole dash covered in alacantra leather

is it sunlight / heat that causes the bubbling/ i never knew what was the culprit

Not sure of the cost...but it won't be cheap. I would say probably at least $1K total.....any good fabrication shop should be able to do this.

It's the heat, sunlight & humidity that cause this. If your car is in a dry area and garaged most of the time...it should last longer.

Mine is a Seattle car and it spent most of it's life in Vancouver. I have had it for 2 years now in Edmonton, Alberta. I haven't noticed anything wrong with it.

The more sunlight/exposure the dash has the higher the chances of bubbles. Since Van is not known for scorching year round sun, you'll be fine for a while

My 2005 FX45 has no problems with the dash. The owner before me was based in Washington state (Kirkland?).
Also, in the summer it sits in the sun and in winter it sits in the cold. (Maybe pressing my luck?)

In my experience it was. I didn't have any issues, and then I was working over the summer and parked outside every day in the sun/heat. After I think 2 months of that is when I noticed it start to bubble.

Also when I first got the car, I had my windshield tinted with ceramic UV tint that blocks sunlight/heat. In addition, if I am gonna to be parked out in the
cali sun for hours I leave up a windshield shade...

My 2004 FX45's dash had to be replaced about 6 months ago. Stealership wanted $3,600 because they claimed it was about a 10 hour labor job. Instead I took the vehicle to an independent shop here in South FL that specializes in Infinitis and he they did it for $1,900 in about 5 hours.

It was never confirmed, but it does seem that cars from places with hotter temps and more sun seem to be more prone to the issue. When I was shopping for mine back in '09, I saw an '08 FX45 from Miami that already had probably 100 or more bubbles. I also saw an '06 from I think AL that had the bubbles. I got my '07 and it had no bubbles and it was from NY. About 2 years into ownership it started bubbling - maybe since in Atlanta it's 90's most of the summer.

I was always told that the issue was with the adhesive holding the cover on so if that's the case, then exposure to high heat could definitely cause the problem to be worse.

I'm going on 5 years with my fx and no bubbling dash.

"no BUBBLE zone!"

I agree this seems to occur more for us FXers in warmer climates...but we don't get nearly as much rust. My car has been in Cali all it's
life and has almost no rust at all. I guess pick your poison...bubbling dash or rusted out undercarriage?? lol
