Off-Road/Safari FX35

(Sort of) Did a bit of off roading today. Loved seeing the 14 inches of snow surrounding my car after boarding. Took some coaxing but after a few rocks back and forth I got enough momentum to break free of the snow prison I was in. Proud father day.

any reason you didn't mount the snowboard attachment on the OEM cross bars? I love the pic, my car looks like this entire winter usually. Last year and a year before that I made 8-10 trips to the mountains each year and the FX handled it like a freaking tank!!!

I don't have OEM cross bars. I'm using eBay Thule-like square cross bars.

Hey guys, I know this thread is almost a year old, but I've been wanting to lift my FX for months now and I've been reading around like hell. It seems like the Nissan Murano is the SUV to lift and add an off road wheel set to overseas. I have some owners on instagram I follow who have done some suspension work and wheels.(@teraji3400, @toshiki_katsuno, @marutake0003) A local tire shop in my area says they can lift my FX by 2", for $80. lol I don't know what they use, but I'll find out before I do anything. Even FXs with 28"+ wheels have lift kits, so I'm sure we can get our cars a bit higher off the ground. I've called a shop before, and they told me the kits were fabricated, which is what I expected. The price was around $1200 if I remember correctly. As for wheels, that can be done with ease. I'll have to get new tires soon, so I may grab a set of 33x12.5 tires. Is anyone here still trying to lift their FX? I'm going to do some photoshop this weekend to fuel my imagination. P.S, I know the Murano and FX don't have much in common, but hey, it's inspiring enough for me lol. Not to mention the off road 350Z.

ask those guys on instagram what they did about camber? Otherwise, I can see how it can be done if you know what your suspension looks like. You would need something like this for the front, it would bolt up to the top of the front spring/strut, then to the vehicle thus giving you that lift same as thickness of that spacer.

And for rear since it's separate spring and shocks, you would need something like this

Now I don't know how much you wanna lift, and how much travel stock shocks have (how much they can stretch), so you might consider getting an aftermarket longer shock.

Then on top of that, you have lifted the vehicle, that will mess up the camber, since I am not aware of aftermarket camber kits, you would probably have to get that figured out too or you would have a positive camber.

But I don't mind those over fenders on the murano J3ff3rson posted, it would be cool to have an option for wider fenders like that

I didn't even take camber into account honestly. I spoke to some of the ig members with Muranos, but our languages didn't translate well lol. One guy sent me pics of his suspension setup and it seems like he got his struts redone. There was some sawing and welding going on. Our convo didn't last long in the DMs though. I've done a search for FX fender flares and they don't exist. A custom made set could be an arm and a leg. Maybe if I or another member could find some time to measure the wheel wells, we could find some that fit. Hell, maybe those Murano flares fit. As for those lift kits, I dunno lol. They look a bit odd, and I've never seen them. Got any pics of them installed on anything?

$80 for 2" sounds like spacers.
My pickup truck has coil pocket spacers and they're fine. Totally different application, but my shop suggested for me not to use more than 1.5" even though 2" were offered. That's in addition to suspension lift and body lift, so totally different than yours.

What is your purpose for doing this?

If you just want added lift to drive around local walmart parking lot looking cool, then that's fine, as long as you realize throwing cheap crap like 80$ spacers under your car will make it drive like shit.

If you are trying to actually go offroad, then just understand this is not the right vehicle for that. Your taking a vehicle with the underpinnings from a sports car, and trying to make it off road ready, you might as well hack everything to do with the suspension out, add some swing arms underneath and slap some long travel fox shocks under it. A cool $30k later you might have something as remotely useable as a factory pickup.

I gave in and got a 4runner. True body on frame truck

Would like to see what you guys come up with if it's still feasible though. I've seen some cool Subaru overland builds. Fozroamer is pretty daring and takes his Subie through some rugged terrain!

Those are usually used on pick up trucks to level the truck, they usually sit nose down.

yea I saw that. My manager put a lift kit on his new outback with a little bigger tires. Looks cool. He doesn't go hardcore off-roading, but sometimes he needs that little extra clearance to get to the spot he wants when he goes camping. Or when hes looking for a good spot for his photography

I don't think I'd get a lift kit, but some nice meaty tires are being considered for when I get new wheels. Maybe some Terra Grapplers. I got a ton on mikes on a set we had in our lifter wrangler.

I definitely won't judge anyone for trying to lift their FX35. I've seen lots of Audi Allroads with their air suspensions raised up and they look good and perform well.

Lol, for the "original FX engineers" in this forum, I do what I want to my cars. I don't care what anyone says is correct or wrong unless it's advice on getting me closer to what I want. That's life isn't it? ;) There are plenty of crossovers with off road tires. Yes, I want my car to look cool, but adding a bit more functionality to it wouldn't hurt my car more than anyone's feelings, clearly lol. Have you guy's seen the BMW X6M with off road tires? Nasty.

Anyway, @jbrentd, would I have enough clearance with 33x12.5r20 tires? Assuming you have the 2nd gen model, which did your comment apply?

@J3FF3R$0N, do you think something like those lit kits could be fabricated for the FX? I think so, but what about the positive camber issues? I guess leveling kits serve a more specific purpose.

@myron02, Do you know if his lift kit was fabricated or not? How many inches did he lift?

Thanks for your replies guys. :)
