Coilovers for 2nd gen

Cause bags are generally shit when you get into the twisties. I guess it depends on what your priorities are...

+1 although the quality has improved over the years. A proper set would still set you back a couple of K and i driven both and all the plumbing....wiring.....IMO are all weak spots compared to a plug-and-play coilover kit. And i always hatted to sit in that compressor noise when you were playing with it....

I wonder how much different the ride is on HR springs compared to coilovers. If it's not much different and there's no camber fix on either then what's the point of spending more

One word. ..... "stance" the H&R springs just don't go that low as a coilover kit does. For me that was the main reason. At first i did find the BC kit quite hard but when playing with the damping adjustment i'm amazed about the ride quality. Don't know much about the building quality in time though. Another reason i took BC over H&R springs/oem schocks was that i didn't like the combo. Springs were sporty but the schocks weren't too soft (non sportpack dampers) didn't like that too much.

In on 24's. Going extra low is not even possible for me. So the only thing that concerns me is the difference in ride quality with either one at this point

IMO H&R would be the softest option. But i always prefer to have the option to adjust and lower the car just the way i want to in stead of having to except the ride height as is ;-)

My experience is on the 1st gen, but I went from stock to H&R then coilovers. H&R rides pretty well, better than stock I'd say for the most part. But the stock shocks will feel somewhat underdamped and the drop is not that low. In the end, I didn't like the way my car sat so I swapped for coilovers. The ride is much firmer, the damping is better, but it has drawbacks too. The ride is harsher which I prefer (I even upgraded to the highest rate springs BC makes) but most people would find it intolerable. And I doubt that coilovers will have the longevity of a spring/shock combo.

This is what has happen with several of my cars though. I get springs, then I swap for coilovers. For me, the springs are never quite enough. So in the future, I'm going to save a step and just go straight to coilovers.

+1 again spot on with your explanation :-)

+1 I agree with shadow, I have springs installed but want to go lower. I'm going to switch to BC's as soon as this camber issue gets corrected.

I think the camber may not be as big a deal as some think. I'm running -3 in the rear on mine and -2 in front. At 10K miles, my rear tires are only showing minor camber wear; I'll have them flipped in another 5K so I could get 30K+ miles out of a set. My fronts have 20K mi. on them and have even less camber wear (rear tires got replaced due to incident with scrap metal so they are newer). I just have the shop keep the toe in spec which you can do with stock bolts, just barely. I don't have a camber kit or anything. For a visual, if I drive through a puddle, the outer 2" of my rear tires don't leave tracks on dry ground.

I honestly had worse tire wear when I was higher because I was too lazy to get the car aligned with H&R's and blew through a set of rear tires. The toe was way out of spec and the tires cupped.

I do have the camber bolts at the rear but max camber rear is also -3. BC kit is max'd out at the rear though.

I'm maxed out at the rear too and I removed a lockring to drop lower. But my springs are higher rate, so they don't settle as much as standard. I had to remove the lockring when I swapped the springs since the car raised up.

So even with the camber bolts, -3 is as good as it gets? That's surprising, without a camber kit, mine is ~-2.9, -2.8 or something like that. And that should be at your ride height as well since we are bottomed out on BC's.

I'm beginning to think that an HR spring setup is best for me. I just don't see myself spending extra money just to drop a couple of inches. I could always switch to coilovers later if I want to. Also I don't really want a stiffer ride. I rather something as close to stock as possible. I just want a more evened out look than anything. Thanks for all the helpful info fellas.

I love my H&R springs ...its been a little over a year now , they settled perfectly got brand new tires when I put on the springs ...so far no signs of uneven tire wear....going to take it to get an alignment soon ....I dont think u could go wrong with the combo unless you want to go lower.

I just wanna go low enough to get rid of the space over my wheels but I don't want to sacrifice any more of the ride than I already did by going with 24's or risk having any rubbing issues. Anybody running Eibach Springs on the 2nd gens here? I'm curious to know how they ride.

Most run HR Springs vs the Eisnaps. Then again, I think the Eisnaps are discontinued for the 2nd Gen..?

Not to bump an old thread… has anybody pulled the trigger on a set of Coilovers for 2nd gen? if so, how "bad" is the camber? Im thinking of just saying "F it" and buying a set of BCs

searching the net, found this thread for GS custom camber arms...

is that the type of custom arm we would need?

What about these for G/Z… would this work?

i went back to the ol' "Justins311" thread with his Fortune coil overs with custom camber kit… I tried ontacting him again to see if he can get me a set or if not, provide me with the details of his camber correction addition so I can get a set made…. Will update.

If custom/prototype camber kit exist, i have capcity or reproducing it, and producing small run (5 or more).

If this is the case I'm in for sure. Pm me if you can work something out
