front lip almost came flying off

I warned you!

Those clips and the lower screw attachments are what broke on mine.

luckily yours wasn't destroyed like mine was.

Right on Aaron and I did the same.

On my FX50, the Dealer put some sort of shiny black plastic dressing on the lower black trim that really seems hard to get off, I want to make sure I get all of that off before my lip install on this FX. Any other suggestions of what to use to make sure it is stripped off?

Did you try a degreaser? Dont get it on the painted area only the plastic area. Thats what detailed image recommends for old dressing removal. Always dilute the degreaser though as its pretty concentrated.

Yeah those side clips are fragile. Its best not to mess with the front lip after its installed cause it weakens it. No damage to mine at all though

Aaron, you can use 3m double sided tape or for better and permanent solution use betalink glue. This is a factory glue from BMW used to glue front splitters, diffusers, wings and etc. It works really well. Google it and check the links from m3post

Thanks ill look into that

I actually found out 3m recommends using an adhesion promoter they sell to prime the mounting tape. The roof spoiler I installed on my G35 came with it and almost makes removing the tape impossible.

Im taking the whole lip off tomorrow so I can come up with a fix for this. If all else fails ill take it back to martino auto concepts to get them to give me a new lip.

These posts made me just go check mine after a ton of miles put on them. They are solid as a rock on both sides. That area is where you had to custom drill with an exact bit drill and such, I'm wondering if you guys possibly cut corners slightly by using a slightly bigger drill bit making the screw less secure over the long haul?

Dam seems like those side tabs are poorly made

I'm not sure man, I put plenty of miles highway and Michigan pot hold city and through a really bad winter (plowing my fx through snow) and it's solid still.

^^same with me, I ran through snow above my fog lights a few times with my 09 and it held up well

No the area that broke on mine is not where you drilled the holes. Even though I used the right drill bit and even used the required center punch tool. Everything there is 100% solid.

The part that has failed are the cheap flimsy hooks that I showed in my pictures that had broken off. The tabs from that side cover slide into it but since the hooks on the inside of the lip broke off that side cover has nothing to hook on to.

Looking at dwaynes picture it looks like he has the same issue. All the hooks are broken and that side cover has nothing to grab on to.

I never would cut corners on stuff like that. I even went to homedepot and bought the right drill bits and bought the center punch just for that very specific occasion. If anything I do everything ocd you know me Jonas.

But to be honest the lip was 100% perfect until it had been removed a few times from the car when my whole car was repainted. The sad fact of the matter is once you put the lip on dont mess around with it or remove it. Those hooks get weakened over time and just break off.

Yesterday I raced a determined Audi S5 on the highway and you guys don't even want to know how fast I got. Anyway considering how fast I did get because of this thread I checked the lip after I got home and it is SOLID. And so was the FX at those speeds on the 21s more stable than my mustang had felt by far although I did hear howling wind noise by that speed.

By the way, the best moment was when I got just enough ahead of him when I got in front of him in his lane.
