Infiniti FX VERY Reliable Car

I have to admit that my FX is pretty much trouble free for a 9 year old car. I only had to change a sensor and brake pads. Soon, I will change my driver seat track due to a bad seat motor and broken seat bracket. The driver seat motor died because the automatic entry feature was on for about 6 years and wore the forward/reverse motor out. The seat bracket broke probably because I corner hard around a couple roads with twisties near my house for fun often. But compared to wife's 06 Murano, which I seem to repair almost twice a year lately, it is a tank. However, it does have minor build quality issues like rattles, dash, poor quality seats for a luxury car, faulty gas gauge, and the FX45 seems to need to be top off with a quart of oil before a listed 3750k old change due to a common oil consumption problem due to sticky piston rings or piston rings with tension too low to provide proper oil control. But, it still drives great and have not left me stranded. I would say I would buy another FX, probably the FX50S next.

I've just broken 217k on my 03 and my seat track has broken twice; the first time i opted to have it replaced at Infiniti to the tune of (if i recall correctly) $1500. At this point i didn't think it was worth it so i took the seat out to see what was going on. It was an easy weld at my buddy's shop and now it's good as new. Just something to think about and maybe saveyou a few bucks. Fortunately i haven't really seen any of the build quality issues you speak of. I too am thinking of moving to an fx50, but I'm kind of leaning towards something with off-road ability.

I found the complete seat track frame on an online Infiniti part store for $500.00, which includes new seat motors. I am killing two birds with one stone as they say by fixing the frame bracket and replacing my bad seat motor at the same time. I will be doing the work myself. I had to do the same for my wife's Nissan Murano seat frame which broke as well a few months ago, so the FX's seat should be the same procedure. So, $500.00 for a new frame and motor is not bad. Funny thing is that Nissan online part sellers charges $980.00 for the seat track frame for the Murano, probably because the older Murano have a high number of seat frame failures and the demand is higher. However, not too many FX owners have broken seat frames, so maybe the demand is low and therefore the price. Thanks for the tip though. Sounds like you like to drive your FX hard around the corners also.:rotfl:

Ah good, lucky find. I think there was some kind of service bulletin relating to the seat frame/track at one point, so maybe they were pro-active and that's why we don't hear about it much. My FX definitely works nice and hard and just keeps going and going!

I usually get my parts from https://www.infinitipartsusa.com/ for the FX and my wife's Nissan Murano parts from http://nissanpartsdirect.com/. I have been a repeat customer to the Nissan part store last year. The seat frame and PCV valves are the only parts I ordered for the FX. Not bad for a 9y/o old car.:good:

Thanks for the link. Im trying to find all black pillars for mine. I hate the chrome look..

Adding another data point with some rough mileage. I was happy with it up to 100k but the repair cost over 120k is steadily climbing.

2004 FX35 with about 130K
-Bad gas level sense unit (<80K)
-Bad power seat gear (<100K) Dealer est $1000. DIY <$100
-Bad front wheel bearing (~100k)
-Rear carriage rubber seats bad (~100k) - ignored
-Bottom section of seats cracking severely on drivers side (110k)
-Broken drivers door handle! (110K) Dealer est > $600
-Bad front door lock servos (>100k) Dealer est $1000
-Valve cover leak on drivers side (130K) Dealer est $1500

Hit 165,000 miles on my old '03 FX45. Few minor things, but she was solid and reliable. Motor burnt oil, replaced wheel bearings countless times (easy to do yourself anyway), had a cam sensor go bad which left me stranded once. Fuel gauge never worked. Other than that, was a class act.

It's one of those vehicles I could have held onto forever, but it was 10 years of the same old, and time for an upgrade.
