Infiniti FX VERY Reliable Car

I have an 06 with 117k on it.. I'm the second owner, purchased at 92k two years ago. I have replaced many parts on my FX but none due to failure. This has been the most reliable vehicle I have owned and I will never own a German vehicle out of warranty again!

i also own a FX, my car is still in good shape. why?because i always go to the nearest auto parts shop and let them examine every infiniti parts and ask them for a good advice regarding my car. If i have to change some parts i will change it immediately so that i can maintain the good posture and performance of my car. I really like taking care of my car it's like my baby if you know what i mean.

Only had to replace the dash under the recall from heat bubbles.

Regular maintance, hoses, spark plugs, fluids, filters. Everyhting has been done and I'm at 100,000 and no complaints.

Very reliable for my wife, wonderful in the snow. What is snow! It's like it's never been in it before, awesome.

Mines all most paided off and then the Porsche Cayenne turbo S is joining the family but still keeping the 2004 Fin Fin.

I have a 2007 FX35 AWD with 105k miles bought it a year ago with 79k no issues mechanically just regular maintenance although my dash is starting to bubble up. I will be calling Infiniti of Chantilly Monday morning about that. :wink (2):

Iv'e had my 04 since 08 and have 98,000mi on it with no major issues whatsoever. I replaced the shocks and struts at 75,000mi but they were still good I only changed them out because I had them off to install the H&R springs. Like jdTrader said more spent on mods than repairs:top::top:

Oh almost forgot had to replace the battery around 80,000mi.
Oh ya had to replace oil cooler o ring and seat belt does retract slow.

I've had my 09 fx50s for almost a year and had to get the wood dash panels replaced under warranty, trans reflash, and some other maintenance item: brake pads, air filters, in cabin filter. (Knock on wood) its a very reliable, gas guzzling machine. I had an 06 M35x and in the few years I had that it was great. Infiniti is definitely reliable imo

I bought my 03 with 66k. It now has 160k on it.
I have replaced alternator, battery, real wheel bearings.
cd player doesn't work. One back door rarely unlocks. Driver door doesn't unlock sporadically (use the remote to lower windows)
Definitely spend more on mods: coil overs, suede headliner, exhaust, intake, amp sub etc

Overall very reliable. You can expect for repairs on any vehicle with that many miles

Sorry I am late haha, I have an 03 RWD 116K on it.
I have replaced:
Front wheel bearings
Valve covers
Bose Sub-woofer
Spark plugs
Driver lock actuator
Drive belts

Very reliable crossover, for being a 9 year old car only minor parts were replaced after all those years of wear. Now I have to replace all my struts and springs because they are due.

I have 2004 Fx35 sport. Bought it used in 2007 with 36k. Now i have 97K and still love the truck. here are some of my issues through the years.

-Both wheel bearings went bad in the front (warranty)
-Driver side window motor replaced. (warranty)

-CD player not working.. only CD slot 1 and 2 work, 3,4,5, and 6 fugggetaboutit. (warranty expired)
-Steering wheel cracking at top (due to heat i suppose)
-Infamous Gas Gauge problem. (reads wrong amount. will have to do Gas Gauge fix.)
-at about 94K exhaust leak in same spot.. will buy aftermarket Invidia Q300.
-rattle from Catalytic Converters heat shields, Rust etc and annoying for the most part.

these are just minor things. ill live :smile (2):
the FX was the original Sport Crossover. ahead of its time. NTBFW!
always wanted this truck. handles like a car and has SUV capabilities. :good:
KCCO!

I got 80k miles on my 05 FX35, and I think it's been very reliable. I've only had to replace the battery and 2 sets of front wheel bearings (both sets covered by the dealer...second set was out of warranty period too). Oh, and the stock exhaust had a leak at the flange after ot rusted. Other than that, it's been great.

This is a copy of the content of my own thread and fits in this thread as well.
Hello guys,
Brake caliper/cylinder or piston problem
I want to report following and maybe it can be of use for you: because my cylinder/piston was blocked and the rotor and rim turned warm with smoke coming of in the end , so had to let it fixed.
In the days before the caliper was stuck could still drive for several km so went to the Nissan dealer nearby they looked at it,cleaned it greased it and things were ok at that time.
But the next day same problem occured, so phoned the dealer and had ordered a new caliper.
As i live in the Netherlands it had to be ordered in the USA.In the mean time had to wait and after a few days tried the car but things were completely stuck. As to get things going and to get to the dealer had to losen the caliper. There was no movement in the cylinder what so ever even with some force. So i took a big socket (or you could use a piece ofiron pipe) at exactly the same size so it can fit between the cylinder and the caliper to keep it from moving afterwards. Took some tie ribs to keep everything on place. Then i hang up the caliper with tie ribs at the upper part of the rear strut. So i couldnt move. And drove to the dealer to let it fixed in the coming days.

I have a 2005 fx35 with 90k miles and wonder how come that a cylinder can get stuck as it is now:mad.:. I should expect good quality of the Infiniti/Nissan brand.
Maybe some of you have got the same problem?

thought i would add to this thread with some high-mileage details on my 2004 FX35 AWD.. Been in the family since, new, bought it from my dad at 260km.. nobody would give him much money on trade in for it! A shame considering how well it was maintained.. but to my great benefit!
Since warranty was up I've kept track of everything carefully and have spent a total of about $13,000 on all maintenance and repairs, not including tires, since 2008 and 130km. That's around $0.10 a km for maintenance, not too unreasonable. Now I'm in vancouver and maintaining myself, but so far that means living with the weather-dependant door locks, and busted power steering. Otherwise it's running fantastic!

Major repairs:
100km f.pass wheel bearing replaced
130-190km no problems just routine maint.
190km a/c condensor and associated expensive crap
190km new tie rod ends
220km, 230km, 236km 3 remaining wheel bearings replaced
233km battery replaced
240km spark plugs and boots replaced
251km new rear brake calipers
251km front and rear sway bar links
250-260km lock actuators on passenger front & back doors and tailgate very subject to not working at warm temperatures (over room temperature, that's warm here..)
268km power steering died, still to be repaired.. I don’t drive much and strong arming doesn't bother me..
275km alternator replaced
my regular maint intervals..
brake pads about every 30,000km
brake rotors machined every 30,000km and replaced every 60,000km
oil every 5000km
coolant, diff, transmision, transfer case oils every 2 years.

I have a '07 with just about 120k miles & it has been just as good to me as any other Nissan or Toyota I've owned in the past. Outside of oil changes, tires etc. only been in the shop for a recall (odometer), dash replacement (bubbling), and driver's seat motor/track replacement (coin stuck in track). Hope it last to 275k like my Maxima did...it has so far been 1 of the best cars I've owned

Hey guys, wanted to start this thread because ive been hearing and seeing so many people questioning about the 1st Gen FX reliability. Recently i met couple guys that were and still are interested in owning a FX. Some said they have googled about our cars and ended up on infinitscene. This site helped them so much that they bought a FX. So this thread is dedicated to lurkers and people who question our cars.

I've owned the FX for 8 years and it has never left me on the street. The engine and transmission work without any problems. Never spent more than $300 on a repair or constantly visited dealership for a fix. Recently i went on 2k mile trip and not one thing went wrong on the FX. Although my experience has been very good (it may sound biased) but some have purchased a FX that has been misused/abused and therefore had problems.
Hopefully everyone who owns/owned an FX on this site will give in more insight and their experience about this solid built car.

I have to admit that my FX is pretty much trouble free for a 9 year old car. I only had to change a sensor and brake pads. Soon, I will change my driver seat track due to a bad seat motor and broken seat bracket. The driver seat motor died because the automatic entry feature was on for about 6 years and wore the forward/reverse motor out. The seat bracket broke probably because I corner hard around a couple roads with twisties near my house for fun often. But compared to wife's 06 Murano, which I seem to repair almost twice a year lately, it is a tank. However, it does have minor build quality issues like rattles, dash, poor quality seats for a luxury car, faulty gas gauge, and the FX45 seems to need to be top off with a quart of oil before a listed 3750k old change due to a common oil consumption problem due to sticky piston rings or piston rings with tension too low to provide proper oil control. But, it still drives great and have not left me stranded. I would say I would buy another FX, probably the FX50S next.
