rasp or leak in the Invidia?

After a 3.5 hour install I took the car for a drive and noticed a sound something like a plastic bag stuck on the bottom of the car. (is this the rasp that everyone’s been talking about) Then when I parked the car it had the white smoke coming out of the passengers side more than the driver’s side. Would it be possible that it’s a bad install?

It's prob a leak between one of the connections. Try to feel around while car is on for an air leak. Then either ttighten bolts, buy a gasket or use rtv gasket seal

In my experience, I've always been able to pick out exhaust leaks because it's very obvious when the sound is coming from right underneath you (where the leak is) as opposed to coming out of the rear.

If you have it idling, maybe you could hear it while looking underneath the FX?

I had to have a friend rev the FX at idle and seen the white smoke coming out from the cat and pipe area but it sounds like a lot of air is coming out from the x-pipe area.
If tightening the bolds doesn’t work can take the short cut and just seal the outer areas of the connectors using the rtv gasket seal or would I have to purchase couple of new gaskets and pull everything apart?

You may get away with reusing your old gaskets with rvt, but you can't avoid opening the connections. Using rvt on the outside won't last 5min.

Until now, I’ve been struggling with the Invidia cat-back exhaust and have been trying to work it out privately with Gordon, but I was given the green light to bring it to the Scene.
Pretty much this is what has been done so far as per Gordon’s request:
1. Have the nuts and bolts tightened by a mechanic ... Done ... paid/$35.00
2. Have the nuts and bolts tightened by a mechanic again ...
I took it a step further and had the former Infiniti head tech seal it up with the gasket seal.. Done.. paid/$95.00…………..
After everything was sealed up and installed, the tech found a leak behind the welded area just around the resonator.
Since I was pressed for time, trying to make it out to the Tri-State on 4/29/12, I thought I’d just weld it up at a muffler shop…. Paid/$35.00
(I didn’t even want/ask for a reimbursement or the warranty).
Everything was good until a couple days later. I looked under the car and heard a hissing/pssst sound every now and then. So now I’m thinking it might be the welded area again
(now I’d like to take advantage of the warranty).
3. Send video clips of the sound ... Done …
4. Send another video clip with car being reved, and check flanges and hangers as well… Done ... Flanges and hangers are good.
5. “Please see the video 00.05. there is a GAP between the flange to flange Resonator flex joint to connect the X-pipe. There still a leak come from your exhaust.”
How is it possible to see the GAP when it’s not even focused at 00.05, and the leak that he’s referring to… The car engine’s not even on yet..
(Now I just want a refund).
At this point I’m pretty much fed up with everything. So I provide him with a couple of angled and focused pictures and ask him if he can provide me with a link that states exactly what the warranty consists of per the refund policy link.
Gordon is stating that a refund will not be provided since the system is used… (Understandable, but I was sold a defective system in the first place). What do you guys think? Is it me or does the front flange look smaller than the other?
(And right after the post, I’ll be providing Gordon with this link as well).

If no refund, can Gordon provide you with replacements for the troubled parts and reimburse for installation?

I got the same problem here and there with the humming/ pssst noises coming out from the mid section. Honestly don't waste your time I've been trying to negotiate with gordon but he's a waste of time he wont help you out. All my gaskets were garbage the ones he provided changed them with better ones still hear it along with changing all the bolts and nuts and they are tightened down a lot. it's always that excuse they give the weather in NYC. Over and over again mean while it's not they just say it so they can get away from not helping you out. Not trying to bad mouth you Gordon but it's the truth

here is sounds clips of the FX55 member's Invidia Gemini exhaust I don't hear any humming sounds come from the x-pipe and mid section.
if does Invidia exhaust has any problem with installation new gasket/ bolt / nuts any piping replacement bad weld/ cracks All you guys can contact me get new replacement for FREE.

also We provide Mikefx35 New rear section muffler as well.

In the pictures fx55 member provide there is no black smoke mark at the X-pipe flange to flange. If normal Exhaust leak there a should be a black smoke mark at flange to flange connections

Thank you,
Gordon

You are providing me with a new muffler but for 350. Meanwhile it's a common problem with invidia and you guys still don't fix your previous issues. So basically I'm giving you 350 for free cause same thing will probably happen again. Now if you provide that on paper that if issue does happen again I'll be more then happy to buy that

Thank you pmanliu. The replacements was what I was aiming for. That’s why I was jumping through hoops to fulfill his needs but every time I send him a updated clip it seems like he wants me to do something else. And that last one about the “GAP” it was just out of line and uncalled for.

Exactly, “waste of time he wont help you out”. This is how I feel as well. Seems like he’s just trying to burn you out so you give in. As for the gaskets… I’ve also asked him if he’ll sell me couple of the gaskets to replace but he insisted that it’s not gaskets. When I was in the middle of the install I found out I was missing 3 nuts and 1 bolt as well. Thankfully I had my friends car to run over to the auto store.

I can’t see anything on the link you provided.
But if you look under the third picture that I posted, I have the latest clip up that I sent you. The hissing is at 1:24, 1:27, 1:29, 1:33, and one without me pointing it out at 1:41.
As for black smoke…. We only see the bottom and a portion of the side view. If any……. maybe it’s at the top around the re-weld that I did?

I’ve been over the Invidia site over and over looking for the warranty statement and couldn’t find anything. So if I may ask you again…. Can you provide me with a link that states the warranty process?

Is it just me or does the front flange on the x-pipe look smaller than the other?

Gordon,

Thanks for the call. Looking forward to the driver’s side resonator pipe replacement along with the bolt, nuts, and gaskets.

fx35.. Guessing this is for me... I’ve purchased the Invidia new and installed it a day before the original post. So it’ll be just under 3 weeks since I had them on.

Sorry I misspelled your ID. 3 weeks... ouch. I have mine for at least close to a year now. So far no issues (hopefully not) yet. I've read issues also about broken hangers on another forum

It's all good. Nothing to be sorry about. :smug:

If you don't mind me asking... Are you around the NYC area as well?

Wished I was passed one of the good apples from the tree as well. LOL

Got my replacement parts yesterday. Looks like I’ve got something to do over the weekend.
