Remote starter for fx's

Sweet about the bars!! I want to do that one day.

Why u considering dropping down in size?

I think I drive too hard to enjoy the 24's. Even though I only noticed a slight difference in loss of acceleration, it's still a loss. I think I'm beating up my FX with wheels that big the way I drive. I have a lead foot lol

Thanks for all the good advice guys!

All the dealerships in my area don't provide or outsource any kind of remote start system installation. All the alarm shops in my area said they could do it, but after reading reviews online they all seem to perform less than spectacular work. One shop that was very reputable said that he didn't have a code for the FX to bypass the need for a key to be in the vehicle when the car is starting.

So even though I had high hopes for this SmartStart system, it doesnt look like its going to happen. I can't find anyone in my area that I can trust enough to touch my car because in the event of a major electrical failure I wouldnt want to foot the bill for a whole new ECU and who knows what else.

Oh well...

A code to bypass the key in the FX? Sounds like he may be using an old school method to install remote starts. I could be wrong but I thought the bypass (such as the Fortin EVO-CAN) that you purchase along with everything else you need for the installation is already pre-programmed for most applications. I don't believe that there is a specific code for the FX per say. The bypass has pre-installed firmware that can be upgraded, usually using a tool that most shops have. The firmware gives the bypass the essential info to work with whatever vehicle the bypass is compatible with. Most of the newer good/reputable bypasses have a universal application if I not mistaken, simply meaning that the company that makes it has made sure that their firmware will work with a wide range of vehicles. Read what this does, it may give you a better understanding of how the bypass works: http://ifar.ca/products/evo-series/evo-can/ It also shows you a list of supported vehicles.

Now even though I am posting this link, I am NOT recommending the Fortin bypass, even though I hear it's one of the better ones your installer should probably use whichever good brand he is most comfortable working with. I am simply trying to help give you a better understanding of how a bypass works and what it does. Not only is the bypass supposed to bypass the key but it needs to be installed correctly so that the door locks and auto headlight feature are not affected by the whole remote start process. All that being said I don't understand why he would say he doesn't have a code for the FX, maybe your instincts are correct with this not being the installer you'd want to use.

So in essence the FX does need a code but the bypass should have the code pre-programmed and should probably be updated to the latest firmware before installing. Most bypasses are probably upgradeable through their website provided the shop has the upgrade tool. Which most shops will have for the brand bypasses they use most.

Oh and about the dealership, that's why I recommend finding a good shop on your own because even if your local Infiniti dealer says they will do it for you, 9 out of 10 times they are taking it to, or having an installer come to them, so they are basically charging you what the installer charges them plus a finders fee lol. My dealer quoted me $1200 for everything. I got it done for approx. $800 a few years back and the misses got hers done for approx. $750 recently. So don't get raped by the dealer lol.

I found a shop that seems really reputable so I'm taking it in.

I think I'll get the whole 9 yards with tilt/window break sensors, alarm, GPS, and whatever little knick-knacks Viper has to offer. I'll let you guys know how much it ends up running!

I'm taking it here:

so if anyone else has feedback on this installer, let me know

Anyone know of a good shop in the NY area to get the viper alarm installed? My remote start alarm stopped working for me. The installer that did it for me years ago is not around anymore. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think Johnmax from the org is in new york; I'd trust him with anything electrical on the fx.

Not on the installer but on viper....

I got the basic alarm through viper and I wish I didn't. I also got the led screen remote option and wish I didn't for that too. If I was to do it over I would get the basic remotes and sign up for smart start.

I use my smartstart a lot! And love it. I will say the led remote is built much better. I dropped the slim remote that was on my keys and the cheap plastic casing broke and the remote was in pieces. Not to take you away from the alarm because it does work. However, I also have problems of my alarm going off when I get in my car sometimes. Don't trust pushing e keyless entry with the viper alarm.

Just make sure you look at your options because all the bells and whistles doesn't come cheap!

Any questions feel free to ask.

I ended up paying a premium... $1700 for just smartstart and GPS. But the premium gives me piece of mind that my electrical will not fry later on down the road... This place does work for the ferrari dealership down the street too.

The labor was $100 dollars an hour plus all the hardware. I just got a basic LED remote to go with it. I've heard the FX is a very techy car and very hard to install on, so I didnt want to go cheap on an install and have to pay more money down the road for repairs.

Well that's good. Pricey but peace of mind is crucial for stuff like this. I hate how you get smart start and then they're like ok sign up here and get a service plan I was like damn it!

Actually, what the Shop sold me was an AstroStart SmartStart system, which is a subsidiary of Viper apparently. It uses the same App on your phone.

It does seem odd to me that they wouldn't just have the Viper system

Hey orange can you send me the info about your alarm guy. I tried PMing you but it says your inbox is full. Thanks man.

You can look up Saltronics as an authorized dealer/installer on the Viper website. This man has been doing Vipers for infiniti dealers and others dealerships as well for many years. He will do it in the dealer for those who need that or will work with you outside and stands by his work fully guaranteed. I used him and recommended him to a couple of people here and nobody has ever had any problems. Hes always happy to answer any questions and gives plenty of useful info that only experienced installers know and will quote you for what you need over the phone. Remember you can always add on any features later if you don't want to shell out a ton of money but his prices are excellent compared to everybody else. My Viper setup has been going for over a year now and no problems. Sal is highly recommended from me pricewise as well as for those who want peace of mind this guy knows his stuff. Hope this helps anyone in the area looking for a Viper setup. If you have any questions on contact info or about my setup pm me. Im sure sideswipe wouldn't mind answering questions about his setup too. Makes sure you mention the Joe's Ugly Orange FX and he will definitely look out for you with a great deal.

Did my last two Infiniti's after the Best Buy fiasco lol. They are also an authorized Viper dealer. Ask for Mike and tell him Jason with the copper FX50 sent you. He'll take of you. He did my wife's Murano also and had to do a little extra to get the system to work properly with her auto headlight feature he knows his stuff. They are also a shop that deals with a lot of work for high end car dealers in their area.

Just to give give you an idea of the customer service there: My wife's Murano had a preexisting remote start installed when she bought it. When we took it there Mike pulled down the paneling to get to work and whomever had installed her previous remote start left a mess of sloppy work under there. He fixed and tidied everything up without charging me extra because of the preexisting mess. You know some installers don't even want to go behind someone else mess. They do good work you wouldn't be disappointed.
