JX's brother the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder

Ha Jonas, you are exactly where the wife and I were earlier this year. Except you now have two options in the Nissan family that we knew about but had not seem yet, JX and the Pathfinder.
We went to the Chicago Auto Show last week to check out, in retrospect, what we may have missed. I must say that I wholeheartedly agree about the JX. Something about the styling just doesnt do it for me. I thought seeing it in person would change my mind but it did not.
The Pathfinder is intriguing and looks great in person (exterior) and on paper but.... Interested to hear drive reports and hope it is more refined than I expect.
Yes, you have eliminated most of the contenders here so sounds like you may be set with the Pathfinder.
I must tell you that given my small sample set, the Q7 may not have all the issues that are assumed of Audis. In the two months we have had it, my 50 has been at the shop 5 times (never had issues with my 1st gen). All electrical issues and I have had my ECU reprogrammed 3 times among other things (16k miles). The Audi has been what we've had to rely on. Of course, just a tiny sample but it has been an issue for us. Our neighbor also is on his 4th Audi in 21 years and swears by them and says he hasn't had to do much beyond tires, brakes, oil, filters and gas. Additionally, the Q7s interior is really something. The ridiculous moon roof, heated rears, headrest system, 3rd row (tight for adults), blind spot system, adaptive suspension, heated steering wheel, and 350 HP (sluggish for me since it is heavy) to boot, your wife just may love it.
The All-Road is small...just an FYI. (For what you are looking for at least)

I didn't realize that Nissan was releasing the Patrol here after all these years!! Is that for real? My family had a Patrol in the late 80s growing up(outside the US)! Yes, Nissan family all the way.

Good luck with the decision, man. Let us know what you end up with.

well there are a lot of items that the Pathfinder won't offer that the JX35 will. I know they're using different leather for the JX and the new Pathfinder....

I was going to say Cadillac SRX, but she hates Cadillac. I was going to say Toyota Rav4, but she doesn't like Toyota's=)

Try the Mazda5, Mitsubishi Outlander, Kia Sorento, Volvo XC90...

She doesn't like the "status" other cars give off, particularly BMW, Mercedez, etc because that's not her and she doesn't want to be given off like that. She also wants a reliable car, good gas too when we go on big long trips, so cars like range rover and Audi Q5/Q7 are not desired (we tend to keep our cars for a long time). She doesn't feel like this about Infiniti, but I'm not a fan of the way the JX looks. She never liked the porches...didn't want me to get one. She doesn't like Honda or Toyota/Lexus cause of all those recalls, no minivans. She likes small cars (going to this size is a little of a stretch) so QX56, etc is just way way too big. She hates cadillacs thinks that old people only drive them. It has to have a sunroof and I would want her to have AWD.

So what are some other good options to try?

Good call. She is actually considering the Mazda c5 which comes out brand new very soon. I heard the SRX is just a glorified Saturn View so I wasn't really interested either. She also wants to check out the new Hyundai Santa Fe. She was surprised he liked the equinox.

Still from all these options seems like pathfinder is the way to go I think. Time will tell.

I sat in an SRX at the last auto show here. It felt exactly like a glorified Saturn. Cadillac needs to get with the luxury program and use some decent materials already. It's like they don't think anyone is going to compare them to the foreign market...:alien:

The big differences separating the Pathfinder and the JX is going to be the aesthetics and the looks - JX is more curvy, pathfinder sharper to match Nissan's design language... and the technology, the Pathfinder is not going to have all the gizmos and newer safety technologies.

And the JX will have better quality of materials and sound proofing and like you said tech

Yeah, the interior of these things are stellar. I've been to car shows in Ottawa and Toronto photographing the new JX, and it's probably the nicest Infiniti interior on the market right now, it's just stellar how well it comes together.

Buddy of mine called it the first transgendered SUV when he saw it. It's definitely lost it's rough edge. I guess the same thing happened with the Armada to an extent.

Yea my dad had an...04? Or 05 pathfinder pre redesign. I liked that car but then it got bigger and now it's...well a tranny

+1, 2 baby seats fit in the rear seats of the GTR or M3 coupe.

(I'm looking at the 7 seater Pathfinder too)
LOL, :rotfl: , I was reading through this thread and got a laugh out of Ed's response to getting a Mini-van. How things change
