got two tickets for tinted windows, front right and front left (35% tints in the front). this happened on long island, ny, in a town that had their own little court system. judge gave me the option to remove the front tints within 2 weeks and if i can show proof that it was removed, from a shop, to send the invoice or receipt via mail and they will dismiss the two tickets and if not removed i face paying a fine (not sure how much). i made sure and asked if i actually have to show up and they said no, just proof that i had them removed and mail to the court office should suffice.

so my dilema, take them off or pay the fine or find a shop that can dummy up an invoice?

any thoughts or feedback please?

I've had 6 window tint tickets. My usual procedure: have the tint removed, drive to the police station and have them sign off that it has been removed, then drive right back to the tint place and have the tint re-done. Haven't had any tickets in this FX yet (knock on wood), but I will be going darker very soon...

What town on Long Island did this happen? I've gotten a couple of tickets already for the 35% on the front windows. All I do is just pay the ticket.....

Sounds like an expensive procedure... i can't imagine the cost/time/effort of your procedure can really be worth it? What are you saving by doing all that opposed to just paying the ticket?

It doesn't cost anything to take the tint off... takes like 2min, and my tint shop charges $80 for two windows. If I'm not mistaken, the fine was $300 some-odd, so it was worth it in my case. Not sure if fines differ much by location... could have been $200 some-odd, but it was definitely much less to have the tint removed and re-applied.

Yea I would get a shop to act like I removed it ...I have two tickets as we speak for tint ...the Judge told me if I bring proof that it was removed I will just have to pat $50 each.

Writing one ticket for each front window is ridiculous. Getting one for the pair seems like it would be sufficient.

How much do you have to pay? I'd just pay the fine if it was $150ish max, but wouldn't want to go higher.

Agreed. All of mine have been for the pair.

i say just have the front windshield tint removed for good bc u never know yo might have to keep dealing with the same issue again, and if its a second ticket for the same issue of the front windshield tint the court system might not even give you a chance since you would be a repeat offender.

I've been driving with tints for years upon years here in Connecticut and was only pulled over once by a state cop (speeding) lol and thats when he asked about my tints. All he did was give me a piece of paper stating that I had to go to the DMV by a certain date and have them check to see if they were legal. They were 20% not legal, here in Ct. you need 35% to be legal. If the DMV checks them and they are not legal they make you pull them off right there on the spot period! No tickets no fines. Anyways I pulled them off before I got there and went to the tint shop and had them put right back on as soon as I left. Ha ha...

In Cali, you get a "fix it ticket", which means you still pay a fine after you fix the problem, your lucky if its just proof. My last ticket, I had a friend in the law enforcement sign it off for me.:top:

It really varies from state to state and even cop to cop. I had a couple of Fix It Tickets over the summer, I took the tiny off my first car myself, so couldn't provide a proof if I wanted to and went to the Sherrif's office to have the ticket signed off, they didn't even bother to come out to check if it was actually done. Just signed it off, stamped it and I mailed it to the court to have it dismissed. I decided to try my luck with my FX which had the same ticket, drove in, went it, same story, took the ticket and signed it off. Also in CA you get 90 days to correct anything so I drove with the tint on over the entire summer. In case you get pulled over again, just show the ticket and they let you go.

I think it's just his front side windows. I'm not sure about fix-it tickets anywhere else, but if you fix it in CA (like I have every time), it doesn't go on your record. Not sure if it would go on your record if you didn't remove the tint.

i don't even know why i thought about front windshield lol. Maybe its because i had just finished talking to someone about the windshield being tinted. He lives in NY and from what i have been told tickets stay on your record and in turn cause your insurance to probably go up in price. And when i was saying that they might not give a second chance i was referring to what he wrote were he said its a small town that has their own court system. That means that it being a small town that has their own court system it might be the same judge dealing with another incident if he gets a second ticket for the tint. The judge might remember that he gave him a chance to remove the tint and then might not be so lenient.

I have 20% tints and a little trick I use is I always keep my sunroof visor open that way light always shines through and makes the tints look a little less dark.

point well taken ocal, there's always a possibility i may end up in that particular area again for sure... this is the first and hopefully last since i had my windows tinted 5 years ago that i got ticketed, but it just makes the car look sooo sweet. talked to a buddy of mine hes gonna dummy up an invoice, hopefully it'll work, if not ill take them off myself...lol
