OEM headrests and kickplates AFTER THE FACT... help ?? !!

I'd love to stop by, but I would do dirty unforgivable things to that garage. :)

lol. Some guys have their man cave, I have my garage, I enjoy being out there and just spending time on the lift. In that photo 1/2 the floors are out on the lift,so I can do oil changes, install exhaust system etc, and its a good photo to see all the tools and compressor, etc on the walls. This way you raise a vechile up 8 feet and you can work under it, or have all the tools at 'air level' so you can work on the car up in the air, and still park 2 cars under neath, when you dont finish the modification in a few hours. But I do have the full flooring, so that its a mezanine. Its pretty slick setup.

That's amazing that you have this setup AND that it is in the city of chicago. superb! :top: I'll be in town in less than 2 weeks...hopefully we can meet up then.

Riiiiight. See a city guy will appeciate it, yes I LIVE in the city of chicago, 60625 :) So to even have a garage in chicago is nuts, but to have one thats 15 feet tall so you can have a lift in it, is insane. I actually bought the place in 06 because the builder agreed to build my custom garage how I wanted it if I bought the top floor unit :)

Lets definitely try to meet up!

Interesting. On one hand I'm amazed that someone designed a double height four car garage, but on the other hand I wonder why its not a conventional single height four car garage. Is your place on a small lot? Is the lift original to the house or you annex the room above the original two car garage?

You answered my question here...

Well, officially the building that I live in is on 3 Chicago single family home size lots. But instead of verticle living (city life) each unit spans across the 3 lot sizes. So uh no, its not a small lot at all :) However when you live in Chicago, and your building was built in 2006 (the HEIGHT of real estate values), deeded car spots used to cost 20k each, EACH. So you were lucky if you got one, my building gave each unit two, 1 inside and 1 outside. But the top floor unit got a private 2 car garage, I just negotiated that the walls go up to 15 feet and it have a flat roof, 220 volt and 110 volt all wired in. I wish I had taken pictures while they were building it, it was really cool to watch. But yeah, everyone I know in the city either parks on the street or has 1 parking spot. I have 4 :) PLUS, I love having a car lift to work on the cars too, not only park them. :)

Makes sense. I wasn't thinking it was a condo at first. The lift is definitely nice.

That explosion of a mess I have in there is about 5 years old. Thats when I had a single car lift, and used to store all my shit around it. Then I had the custom 2 car lift made and moved all that junk in that upper section.

Ooooooooh! Its free standing! Now it totally makes sense. I was imagining your building on top of the garage and wondering how the hell you negotiated a structural revision that big into the sale of a single unit. Now I see. That's cool.

Very nice setup.. I hear you on the parking, mine was 30k when I bought my condo in Chicago ... I should have bought a farm instead lol.

I had a buddy that lived downtown and I couldn't believe what he had to pay for a parking spot. Chicago is a very cool city, but I love living in a town, where I dont have to deal with traffic and can be out in the middle of nowhere within a 30 minute drive.

Yup, I did that too, I lived in Charlotte, NC, Cary, NC, Boone, NC for about 15 years, I know what thats like. But I would take Chicago, IL any day of the week over that DURING the summer... I can go to a game, go to a bar, go to the store, go to 100 different resturants, go to autozone :) all in walking distance. Cant beat that. Plus city is fun, because I get to do those zero to the speed limit jumps jocking for position at a light on the right side of the street. City drivers will know what im talking about. But I absolutely HATE the city in the winter. Because well Chicago is cold as shit, gets plenty of snow which makes sports cars less usable. Where as NC I was year round driving my vipers. No suck luck in Chicago.

I guess there are pros and cons to everything.

I was gonna say it's like a robbers dream come true even if it has an alarm.

Spoken like true chicago'ans. Yes, the garage is setup like fort nox. It has a STEEL door and STEEL door jam. Double Dead bolts on the door, and thats a solid garage door, reinforced. Its got 3 cameras shinning on it, and 1 camera in it. It has a motion sensor, and of course an alarm. Steel bars on the windows too.

So yeah, I sleep just fine at night :)

Oh and YES.. they HAVE tried....

Sounds good. I will definitely ask Sewell next time. I have a few things I am looking to get from them. Considering the thousands of dollars I have spent in Sewell's service dept over the years and buying two of my Infiniti's there I am pretty sure I deserve a break in price on some stuff too. :wink (2):

Thanks for the heads-up.

Post some pics of the headrests when you get them in and let us know how you like them. I have been toying with the idea of putting the DVD's in as well. I already have the illuminated kickplates already. They look really NICE!

I want to get the Tonneau cover that goes over the back cargo area (they jipped me out of that for the '10 model and included it in the Deluxe pkg for my year....was a given on the '09 is my understanding). Also would have liked to had paddle shifters, also on the '09 that they just removed for '10. I was pissed when I picked it up from detail and there were no paddle shifters. I just assumed they would be there.....had no idea they removed them for my year. :mad.: PLUS as usual when you buy a car....the next year they add that one thing you wanted but couldn't get.....a power liftgate. Oh well. I am waiting to see what the JX looks like and might go that route.

I have been a bit frustrated with the FX lately.....some rattles, etc. I know that no car is perfect but it is a bit excessive with the fit anf finish issues. And I will never have tan leather again.....man is that stuff hard to keep clean and looking new. The FX is a hot looking car though and pretty big for the segment with great tech and lux interior. Anyway, sorry I got off on a tangent there. Happy installing!!! :top:

Ok, system full installed, what a bitch!

It is not fun at all, and while I am glad I did it and its over, I would NOT do it again. This is one option I'd rather just find the car with it, vs trying to convert mine to it.

Again, I love it, as we can now watch 3 different videos at the same time (not sure WHY we would ever need to do that), maybe wife watches something from passenger seat, and each of the children watch their own in each of the headrests. But at least I can do it if needed. I guess one dissapointment from the system is that you cannot manage them from the headunit like I had originally hoped. Each headrest is manged within itself, so you have to control each unit from the headrest itself, which makes it hard to do if you are up front driving. A centralized management system using the NAV screen would have been HIGHLY prefered. In the end though, its also nice if you have older children, for them to manage their own sources. They can share a DVD with the other head unit, or they can watch their own dvd. And of course you can share the audio from the headrest system to the whole car, or they can listen to their own sources via their headrests.

Thanks!

Jon

That garage is insane. Parking spots are just crazy in Chicago. I paid $30k for one spot and it's not even deeded AND I have to pay an assessment on it monthly. Another place in Chicago, my garage was in an alley that was so narrow, it was Austin Powers 100 point move to get the car in every day.

Jon, you probably live like 10 minutes from me. This will make mini-meets easy in the summer.

Sounds like you're close to Korea town... Korean BBQ and Soju anyone?
