RPM dips down then jumps back up when slowing down or braking

Glad you got this fixed Aaron and thanks for posting it up.
But, YEOOOOOOWWWW:eek.:You let them wash your FX. They have it written right on my file, to "never wash Customer's vehicle"

this is what they did to mine...... but it happened a twice today while driving ...now when at a fullstop with the car in drive the engine is really loud.

Went into Infiniti of Massepequa this morning and told them that the RPM drops down when slowing down and braking and then suddenly bounces back up to normal. Provided them the TSB number and technician test drove the FX and I guess found the problem. I was told they had to contact Infiniti headquarters about this issue and they told them what needed to be done. Must be really common thing then. They reflashed the ECM and did throttle relearn and idle air volume relearn. Drove about 50 miles in stop and go traffic today and problem seems to have gone away!!! I'm do happy. My stops aren't jerky anymore like was they use to be. I use to slow down and come to a stop and the car would almost stall and give a slight jerk when it did that RPM dipping thing. Well no more!! :)

haha, good for you, I figured there is noooo way you would let them because you are such a fanatic with your ride. You always have it looking better than new.

Thanks! haha usually dealers add swirl marks to cars when washing them and right now mine is about 95% swirl free after I did that detailing this past summer with my Porter Cable buffer ;). Black is VERY hard to maintain so I watch lol.

aaron, do you notice your car idling high rpms now? hence louder what dwayne is referring to.

Nope no high idle. The idle speed is set at 688 RPM like it should on mine.

If the idle was any higher the service engine light would come on for the P0507 code for the RPM higher than expected. So I think his problem isn't related to the RPM.

I wonder if you now cleaned out your throttle bottles if the rpms would idle too low in some cases....it would be nice to know exactly what the issue was that causes the need for this.

I wonder why dealers do that...just do the work and get paid....who doesn't want work these days!

Wayne---I started noticing mine more and more later versus earlier, but maybe because after i noticed once I pay much more attention to it. I bet you have the same...maybe not. It's hard to notice. When you come to a stop, the rpm dips slightly....I notice it once every now and then.

I drove over 300 miles today and a payed attention to the RPMs everytime I stopped. The idle was always around 650-700 RPM, it stayed quite steady, it didn't take any sudden drops. It seems perfectly fine to me.

Did I ever tell you I love driving this vehicle. I was only supposed to be travelling less than 200miles and when I got out I had travelled well over 300 miles:tongue (2):

Did you also pay attention to the RPM needle dipping down when slowing down not just stopping? It has to be in constant stop and go traffic.

I was in some pretty major stop and go traffic in London, Ontario and Waterloo today, everything seemed fine.

i dont think its rpm related it did that before the reflash ..now its just louder than it use to be ..i have free oil changes for life from my dealer they use mobile one (regular) am gonna try using nissan oil on my next oil change and see if that helps.

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE!! lol Ughhh RPM dipping came back again today :-(. I was in stop and go traffic today and it started doing it again today wtf!! I guess when the computer was reset and updated that it cleared it for a while which explains why it wasn't doing it after I left the dealer. Well now it's back today.

But there is good news to the story and Turbocad was right. It's definately the throttle bodies. I came across this thread on the VQ35HR motor thats found in the 07-08 G35 sedan:

http://g35driver.com/forums/v36-engine-exhaust-drivetrain-fi/283583-idle-rpm-drop.html

If you read through some of the pages you'll see that people have had the RPM dip low then come back up when slowing down or stopping. 100% throttle body related I see. I also found this thread on cleaning them on the VQ35HR:

http://g35driver.com/forums/v36-diy/322548-diy-clean-your-throttle-bodies.html

I had mine cleaned before and guess they must be filthy again. I'm thinking I might do it myself.

when are you going to clean it?

Is that something the dealer can do under warranty considering it is affecting how the car is performing or anyway to prove it is the throttle body being dirty that is causing it to the dealer?

I was thinking about cleaning it on Tuesday on my day off. Do you think I should? Or should I give the dealer a call and ask them if it will be covered under warranty? I heard you can screw up the throttle body when cleaning it if your not careful.

I would take it in since you just had it there to correct the problem. Their fix was not successful, so you could suggest maybe it's caused by a dirty throttle body and that they should cover that since you have already been there once to fix this issue.

Ok I'm going to try that then. I'll give them a call first on monday to make sure they would cause I don't want to run over there for nothing.

you did clean it before right? I would try what wayne suggests first and if not you can always do it yourself I guess. Second time even better.

Yeah I had it cleaned before, but I paid for it.

I'm going to call in the morning and ask. Do you guys think their suppose to clean it for free for me since it's effecting how the vehicle is performing? No where do I see in my warranty booklet that cleaning throttle bodies is considered maintenance. So it should be done right?

Has anybody tried a better filter for the OEM airbox? I'm assuming that'll help stop most of that junk from getting to the throttle bodies.....
