Car was broken into in a hotel parking. The mofo busted the lock and the door and stole my gps, camera, other car and home key and worse my folks passports. Drivers side door is all busted and wont open. Is the hotel liable? Also wondering why the alarm dint go off. :mad.:

That sucks man.
Any surveillance in the lot?
Ussually most lots have that sign that states they're not liable. Dunno if that holds up in court or anything.

I agree just suck having you ride and personal stuff violated, I try never to leave anything valuable in the car at all, I am not sure on the factory alarm how it works, I think it goes off if you try to open it but if they were able to unlock it then I am not sure.

Sorry to hear it.
But just think how desperate and hopeless someone must be to steal your sh!t. Pathetic isn't it?
I know it doesn't help much, but I though I'd try to cheer you up.
Beside your still the better man.
As for liability. I bet the hotel washes their hands of this.
I know Home Depot posts signs releasing them of liability.
So does Malwart. :thefinger:
Maybe they have security cameras, but good luck with that.
Keep your chin up.
It happens to the best of us.
Peace

Sorry to lay this on thick, but by leaving your camera and GPS out in the open, you were practically asking for it. Rule number one of protecting a car from thieves, "hide all valuables and personals from thieves". Better yet don't even leave them in the car. Your just asking for it bro by leaving stuff in your car.

Now onto the alarm situation. The factory alarm only goes off if the alarm is set and someone opens the doors from the inside or outside. By the way when he did open the door by busting it and the alarm went off, the horn only sounds for 50 seconds then shuts off. Which wouldn't be long enough for you to hear it anyways. The only way for the alarm to sound if the window, door, or lock is busted would be for you to have the Infiniti factory alarm impact sensors. This detects any vibrations on the car, and sends a signal to the alarm system to sound the horn. Either that or get an aftermarket alarm.

And get your front windows tinted too and leave the moonroof sun shade closed. That will keep less light from shining into the cabin at night time so thieves can't even see inside. It'll keep them away from your ride.

He didnt sat anything re. leaving things in the open. How can he be to blame. He was jacked

I'm not blaming him at all. I'm just saying personal items should not be left in the car.

From my experience, thieves usually bust inside the car when something they can see inside the car gives them a reason to break inside. Whatever was in his car must of gave them a reason to break inside.

You said your GPS was inside the car right? Did you leave the mount that goes to it out in the open? Seeing a GPS mount or power adapter could also give them another reason to break inside thinking that the GPS to it must somewhere inside.

hotels are mostly not liable for this. your stuffs are gone, your only option is to bring the insurance into the matter at hand. sorry for your loss.

gotcha. maybe the mount or even the unit was left out. Again, he didnt say, but you're right. Always a good idea to hide the goods. Especially at night

Sorry about your experience.

After having the luxury of a garage for overnight parking, I recently began having to park outdoors for 5 of 7 days overnight. I have close to limo tint on the rear windows and 25% on the fronts. I clear the front of the vehicle of everything and leave the cupholder door open. A potential thief looking in won't see anything even tangible in the car and I will rarely leave anything of high value in the rear. I keep my fingers crossed every time I walk away from her..

The gps and camera was taken from the glove box and I don't use a gps holder for precisely that reason. Leavin the passports in the glove was a stupid mistake. Pisses me off that the hotel has had cars busted in the same spot earlier but still chose not to install cameras.

He dint open the door infact the drivers side door is jammed and cannot be opened. When he busted the door the front windows rolled down and he just grabbed everything from the the open windows.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to open the door? Everything seems to be working but I just cant get the door to open.

I had my car window smashed a couple weeks back in Downtown Montreal at 4:00 in the afternoon. There was nothing that they could see, and they got a burberry coat in the trunk :(

Just because there is a sign does not mean the hotel is released from liability. My recommendation is to file a liability claim anyway against the hotel. Is there any way for you to prove negligence?

Even a BS negligence proof, and the hotel's insurance carrier will likely pay some $ just to get rid of the claim.

Hey man, sorry to hear about the break-in. New to IS, been around the ORG a little while and have heard of thieves jamming a screwdriver into the drivers door, evidently it causes the window to just roll right down. No need to open a door, no alarm.

Some folks are doing the "Escutcheon Mod",which essentially covers the drivers door lock, just like the passenger door. Simple and cheap but if your key fob or battery dies... oops.

I tried providing links but I don't have 10 posts yet. If you want them just PM me.

Good luck with the repairs, hope it works out for you.

That's exactly what happened. I read a piece somewhere about the lock mid, maybe it was the org.

Will I need to hire a lawyer for this? If yes then it may not be worth it.

Good quote for a bad situation:

Lance: Still got your Malibu?
Vincent: Aw, man. You know what some f**ker did the other day?
Lance: What?
Vincent: F**king keyed it.
Lance: Oh, man, that's f**ked up.
Vincent: Tell me about it. I had it in storage for three years, it was out for five days and some d**kless piece of shit fucked with it.
Lance: They should be f**king killed. No trial, no jury, straight to execution.
Vincent: Boy, I wish I could've caught him doing it. I'd have given anything to catch that a**hole doing it. It'd been worth him doing it just so I could've caught him doing it.
Lance: What a f**ker!
Vincent: What's more chickensh*t than fucking with a man's automobile? I mean, don't f**k with another man's vehicle.
Lance: You don't do it.
Vincent: It's just against the rules.
