Has anyone else noticed a problem with the mirrors?

Mine started this again, and my motor for the pass. window are pretty loud when it moves for Reverse....
I feel like every time I think about getting rid of it then keeping it again it decides to punish me.

I'm hoping that a little Loctite will avoid a future occurance. I will let you guys know how it went. May try it tomorrow morning and if not, then def on the weekend. Still a little leary about popping off the covers, I'm a little heavy handed and I don't want to crack anything.

For those who keep having this problem a little medium strength Loctite on the screws and a heat gun or blow dryer should work as a semi permanent solution.

Hmmm my passenger side mirror was shaking and was loose. Brought it into the dealer and they ordered me a new mirror. Replaced within a week of my compaint and was all done free of charge under the factory warranty.

Like I said no point to replace the mirror because the new one will eventually start shaking too. It just temporarily solves the issue. What you need to do is remove the screws and put some loctite on them and then tighten them back up. It's a permanent fix.

Yup, mine are loose as well. As is a friend of mine with an '09 FX35. Mine's going in for service next weekend and the list I have for them to do is growing weekly. I'd do it myself, but since it's going in for the 30K service, may as well make the most of it.

Ok so I'm trying to remove the covers right now and it doesn't seem like they want to come off. The allen key is even flexing a little and still the plastic cover won't pop off. Starting to feel like it will break if I pull down any harder.

Nevermind, I was using the wrong hole (no pun intended lol). I think it's important to note that there are two holes on the bottom of the mirror it is the smaller rectangular hole on the light cover that you will need to put the allen keys into. I originally was using bigger semicircle hole on the plastic cover where the camera is. the pictures do make it clear which hole to place the allen key in but at a quick glance you can easily go for the semicircle hole because it just stands out more.

Correction there are three holes on the bottom of the mirror. Two semicircular holes and one rectangular hole.

END OF STORY! :smug:

Anyone who's had success with this care to explain what I am looking at in the second photo? I have an 09 FX50 with both mirrors loose, and my puddle lights don't have any opening underneath to stick the wrench into to pull it loose. Perhaps some additional explanation as to which hole and where exactly the wrench goes? I attempted to insert it into the only other hole on the underside of the mirror that would accommodate the wrench, but it was the larger panel under the mirror itself, and the panel would not budge.

Additional guidance to save me spending money at the dealer on this would be most appreciated! Thanks.

Fire0nic3FX, you are amazing. First you solve my shift problems with the factory re-flash and now you solve the loose mirror problem I've had since I bought the car. I just did this out in the driveway and my mirrors are now perfect. My dealer wanted to completely replace both of them. Next time you're in Chicago now I owe you a few beers AND dinner. Thanks so much for your advice on this forum!

No problem bro

My dealer wanted to do the same thing and replace both mirrors. Thats not a real fix because the new mirrors will just become loose again. Might as well fix the source of the problem haha. Glad everything worked out bro. Ill remember that dinner offer :P

Thanks for the pics! Mine have the same problem as well! Pictures speak a thousand words... Think of the pictures as instructions for an IKEA bookcase. All you need is an allen key and a screwdriver ;).

Tightened mine and they're loose again. So aggravating

Did you use Loctite? Plus a lot of people forget that Loctite is heat activated, it is primary supposed to be used for engine bolts and bolts that would get hot which in turn would activate the Loctite. That being said, first I put the Loctite on the thread of the screw, then I screwed the screw into place, and finally I used a heat gun on LOW HEAT (remember there are plastic parts in the mirrors) to heat up the screw until it was a little more than warm to the touch. If you don't heat the Loctite it will take a very very very long time to get hard and stiff around the thread of the screw. Sometimes it won't even get stiff and will remain useless. Anytime you use Loctite you should apply a little heat to the area if it's not an area that heats up on it's own. You could also use a blow dryer to heat the screw. If your not going to heat the area you might be better off using thread tape.

Not to sure if this thread is for all mirror inquires or just dedicated to the first posts problem. Anyways, my previous 12 premium maxima had a tilt down feature that tilts both the driver and passenger side mirrors down when i put the car into reverse...does a 12 "base" fx35 have this feature also? My mirror only tilts down depending on which side the switch that controls the mirrors are left at (ex: if i was to adjust my driver side mirror, I would first need to switch that lever located to the bottom right of the steering wheel right to the driver side mirror position, I would adjust it so and leave the lever still on the driver side. Put the car into reverse and only the driver side will tilt down...vice versa...however, if i leave the lever in the neutral position, neither the driver side or passenger side will tilt down). Any help is appreciated. Cheers.

^^^Yes I think all FXs do this. You choose which side tilts. Both don't tilt at once.

As for shaking mirrors...
Mine are driving me crazy, I still haven't tightened them
