Has anyone else noticed a problem with the mirrors?

Both my mirrors were shakey! Based on this thread, I used a little right-angle ratcheting Phillips screwdriver and tightened the three Phillips head machine screws, and all seems to be good! The mirror head itself is no longer loose, and a quick road test showed no glass shake. Fingers crossed!!

Thanks to you previous posters for the tips! (The worst part is getting up the nerve to pop the plastic cover off the bottom of the mirror. :eek.: )
 
I need to do this, I just noticed it this past week, the driver's side mirror is shakey...I thought it was my bass at first but no, it's just shakey.
 
I noticed this problem few months ago with my driver side mirror. I took it to the dealership and they said it needs to be replaced. It's been 2 months and they didn't call me (bad communication on their part). I called last week, the parts came in, and I'm going to get it replaced this coming Friday.
 
I'm noticing something like this on both my mirrors. When you grasp the mirror you can move it slightly, as if there was play in where the mirror housing moves if you retract the mirror. Is this what everyone is referring to?

The mirror on my friends G37 is completely firm, but it's not the retracting mirror.
 
Dealer told me it's common if you use the folding feature a lot...over time they just get loose, that's all.

I use mine every day and after tightening them 6 months ago, they are still good though. Not a big deal....at least to me....

Makes sense. I guess it's something I shouldn't worry about at a later date.
 
I've never had the problem, but then I never use the folding mirror feature.

It's true, from my personal experience, that the issue is related to using the folding feature, which is a useful one.
 
I had the shaky mirrors , took it to the stealer and they used thread locker on the screws re-torqued and good as new . The whole thing took about 1 hour, pretty good with not having an appointment .

So is this also related to the mirrors folding down when in reverse? I think I've maybe manually folded the driver's mirror once. I notice in reverse that the driver's mirror doesn't tilt down like the passenger mirror does... or is this normal?
 
Either the driver's or passenger's mirror will tilt in reverse (if so equipped). Simply select the right or left outside mirror with the little toggle switch for manually adjusting the outside mirrors. When you shift into reverse, the selected mirror will tilt down. Instructions are in the Owner's Manual. :wink:

yep, and if you put the toggle in the middle none of the mirrors move on reverse. :wink (2):

I just noticed today that my passenger mirror has this problem. Any luck getting a better description on how exactly the covers pop off? I am definetly the type to accidentally break something trying to force it open. I'm going to pop both sides open and use some Loctite and a heat gun on the screws and hopefully avoid future problems. Will a plastic pry tool work just as well as the allen key?

Mine started this again, and my motor for the pass. window are pretty loud when it moves for Reverse....
I feel like every time I think about getting rid of it then keeping it again it decides to punish me.
