Morimoto bulbs

fyi .One of the things to look for also in a quality bulb is the base. the Phillip and the Morimoto have a metal base support, the cheap ones dont.

Yes this is very true!

When the bulb doesn't have a metal base plate like what the Morimoto and Phillips bulbs have, your cutoff line could be screwed up. The reason for this is cause having the metal base plate insures that the capsule is alligned properly and flush when sitting inside of the projector. Without it the light could be bounced everywhere inside of the projector resulting in an uneven cutoff line. The inside of projectors are very sensitive.

Ok here's a comparison photo to show the difference:
On the left is a high quality D2S bulb with the metal base plate. Notice how it is attached to the capsule. This insures that the capsule is alligned properly. The one on the right is a cheap DDM Tuning D2S bulb. Notice how it's missing the base plate. That's why you get what you pay for:

Get the Morimoto bulbs! Their a great value for the money.

For $50, these are a great set of bulbs. With the HID fog kit from DDM Tuning, they match perfectly IMO.

Are the foglights 6000K too? Looks real good!

I'm going to post up a daytime picture in a few.

I literally just took this picture like 3 minutes ago outside in the sun. At night time these look even better. The car is filthy BTW so don't bitch me for it :P

Here is what the Morimoto 6000K D2S bulbs should look like after colorshifting and being on for almost 15 hours during break in:

There's definately a noticable color shift from pure white, to pure white with a tinge of blue to it. Which is the color most people are aiming for. Not only does it look good, but you don't have to sacrifice light output for looks. These look brighter on the road than OEM.

Here's a picture of what the ugly OEM 4300K bulbs look like

Hey Fire, any updates on the color or output of the bulbs? Still love em? I got philips 5K a few weeks ago and just realized the store sent me the wrong ones. They send D2R instead of D2S. Im going to try to return them and get 6K morimotos instead I think.

Yeah, they definately have color changed alot since the two months they have been inside the car. I think they've been running for a total of 100 hours already, so they definately color shifted to more of a pure white with a tinge of blue to them right now. I'll try to post some pictures tomorrow of the way they look now. Their just the right color I was aiming for. No yellow just pure white with some blue to it.

Oh by the way, they say you lose some light output when switching from 4300K stock to 6000K, but in reality when you look at it you don't. Like I said before, I think 6000K lights up the road a lot better compared to the stock 4300K. The reason why is pure white shows up a lot better on the road than that ugly yellow crap:tup:

Buy the Morimoto bulbs! You won't regret it:wink:

I'll vouch for the morimoto bulbs as well. I had some cheap ebay 6000k bulbs that died out so i bought some 5000k morimoto bulbs and they look fantastic.

I went 5000k because the 6000k I had was just a little too blue (looking head on). I wanted something that was just pure white

+1 for the morimotos. Running them over two years and no problems (6000k)

Oh yeah...

mods do you think the thread title should be changed?

Lol, I was just thinking that. Should be "Morimoto bulbs are that great!" I just ordered a set of 6Ks today from retrofitsource this morning and already received shipping confirmation with tracking #

^Thanks

I'm going to try and get some pictures up in a few.

Nice pics, thanks for sharing again! I ordered the lights on thursday and just got them yesterday. Installed them with no problems. My only issue is that I don't drive that often at night and getting the 15-20 hours break in may take months for me to see the color shift, lol.

I do have a general question about the bulbs. After the break in period for them and the color shifts, will it continue to color shift in general for the life of the bulb? Or after the break in period, that color will stay like that?

every bulb color shifts in time, i had my morimotos over 7 months and its perfect, i love the blue in the color, but i wish morimoto had some 7k or 8k would of been nice

After a while they will stop colorshifting when they reach their true color.

A good idea to help the bulbs break in more is to drive with your headlights on in the daytime. I did that as I don't drive it that much at night time. Many people do it anyways, so it's not a problem.

i drive with my hl + fogs on all the time for about 1.5 years now and the MORIMOTO hls and DDM fogs are still goooood. of course im not expecting them to last forever as they haven't gotten a break in forever

I have the same setup. My OEM Philips bulbs are so impressive -- I've touched them, dropped them, they rolled on the garage floor, and yet they still work like new after being 7 years old.

The Morimotos seem to be of the same quality, as I can compare to DDM D2S bulbs, and multiple ebay D2S bulbs, they all failed within 1 year.

If I am in my car, the headlights and fogs are on -- and I think it's been 2 years or more so far on the Morimotos no problem. The DDM bulbs I had to replace once.

Well, I have my 6k installed for like three weeks now. I love the initial quality and color of the bulbs. I only drive with the headlights on three or four days a week for 45 min max so it's taking forever for them to color shift. I do love how the bulbs illuminate the road and even other cars as they drive past. I dont really notice any loss in lumens from 4300 to 6K. I know I can just drive with them on during the day to speed up the process, but I dont want to do that. I don't mind the wait. Other than that, Im really happy with the purchase so far! :smile (2):
