what kind of gas do you use?

i was wondering what kind of gas do u guys use if in the nyc area and do u see a difference in mpg with using different brands

Shell top shelf stuff. Our resident guru on the boxster thread swore by Shell gas and Castro syntec oil. too soon to tell you if it has made a difference in my car. I did use mid grade(89 octane) in my G35x a few times and didn't notice anything different.

I use bp 93 went because they have cash and credit same price ...for some reason it last longer than when I use shell.

Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G 2

Facebook Photo Sinks Man Who Stole Police Gas | The Smoking Gun

APRIL 18--A Kentucky man is facing a misdemeanor rap after he siphoned gasoline from a police car, a theft that came to the attention of cops after the perp posted a Facebook photo memorializing the crime.
As seen in the above photo (click to enlarge), as Michael Baker, 20, was swiping the gas last month from a Jenkins Police Department squad car, he made sure to flip the bird as his girlfriend snapped a picture.
After obtaining a copy of the photo (which began circulating in Jenkins) police arrested Baker Monday evening for theft by unlawful taking, according to an arrest warrant, which

alleges that he “stole gas from a Jenkins City Police Cruiser” and then “posted a picture of his theft on facebook.”
Baker, pictured in the mug shot at right, is scheduled to be arraigned today in Letcher County District Court.
While the siphoning photo has been removed from his Facebook page, Baker yesterday updated his 380 friends on his legal problems. “just got out of jail,” he wrote in one post, adding later that “yea lol i went too jail over facebook.” Responding to a friend who had not seen the image before it was yanked, Baker assured, “yea lol u would just have to seen it it was funny as hell tho.” (1 page)

Best quality gasoline is the Chevron with Techron gasoline! Why do you think that since 1973 all the big 3 U.S. auto manufacturers use Chevron gasoline when testing their vehicles to meet EPA durability standards. Since there are no Chevrons in Michigan these companies buy gas 500 miles away from Kentucky.. now if that doesn't tell you something about their gas quality, I don't know what does! Hands down the best fuel out there is Chevron with Techron or Texaco with Techron gas!

There is no difference in Top Tier gas which Chevron is a part of. They all meet the same standards for detergents and the reason there is even a designation is because of emissions. But this was years ago when companies weren't putting enough detergents in. A lot of non top tier gasoline actually have more detergents, they just don't feel like paying for the testing for the designation since barely anyone cares.

All gas comes from the same stock, Chevron's gas isn't any different than some no name gas. They just add their own blend of detergents. It doesn't do anything for performance, just keeps engines cleaner so emissions don't go up.

For those people who think that one brand is better than another...it's really not. If you got a bad batch of gas from XYZ brand, it's probably because the tank was dirty or the tanker truck was dirty or there was water in there or something. It will be station specific and not brand specific. Octane is octane so unless the gas is contaminated, Shell 93 is the same as Chevron 93 is the same as BP 93.

I'm sure the mfg's bid it our like any other contract. Chevron may have dropped the price even lower for marketing reasons. And if so, this would be proof that the strategy worked.

Sorry "Shadow", but you are wrong. While Octane rating is specific among all brands and is regulated by the government, the actual refined quality of the gasoline and the detergent additive package differ widely as do the internal company controls regarding the storage of the finished product at the distribution point.

The original classification of "Tier One" gasoline was developed jointly by BMW, GM, Honda and Toyota with the goal of providing a standard higher than what the government recommends for additives and detergents to ensure people would recieve adequate detergent mixes to keep their engines running optimally and provides for better performance, fuel economy and emissions.

Currently the list of "Tier One" fuel companies is: Chevron, QuikTrip, Texaco, ConocoPhillips, Shell, Entec and MFA Oil and several other smaller brands including some Canadian brands. Together these companies only represent about 40% of gasoline sold with the rest falling into "Tier Two" which is most other name brand fuels and "Tier Three" which are considered non-name brand fuels.

Of all of them, Chevron and Shell are generally regarded as the "best of the best", but you can't go wrong with gas from any of them as they all meet the enhanced minimum standard of "Tier One".

For what it's worth, a friend of mine tunes cars for a living and I don't mean he changes spark plugs. His name is Frank Smith, world renowned tuner, www.tuningtechfs.com. He is the go to tuning guy for Ferrea, AEM, FAST,for testing new racing parts. He ran some back to back tests on his personal Corvette and found that using Shell gasoline he baselined his Vette at 478whp. His next fill up he switched to Lukoil and re-dynoed. He found he had to pull the timing back several degrees to prevent detonation and could only manage 457whp. That is a 21whp loss simply through a gasoline change in a highly tuned car. If you have a performance or turbo car, you really should be using "Tier One" fuel to ensure optimal operation.

Here In Australia - BP ULTIMATE 98 OCTANE - High performance fuel, nothing less and only from BP; best in the country.
