Has the V1 gone through any cosmetic changes? It looks like something that came out if the Knight Rider car from the 80's :rotfl:

In $300-$500 range, Valentine One(performance wise, hands down. One minus no GPS, many false alerts) and Escort 9500ix(gadget wise, with GPS, will be very quite, no false alarms. Poor detection).
In $800-$1500 range, custom installed setups, Beltronics STI-R Plus(the best radar detector available at the moment) and Escort 9500ci.

how is it poor detection in your opinion? I've had anything but awesomeness from it especially in auto mode from city to highway.

I still love my 8500 x50. I love it so much I have two units. But these are far from the best in today's market. It was big dog before the 9500 came out.

Still works great for me. I don't use it in the city because too many false readings.

Nope still looks like sh!t:rotfl:

I had V1 for 4 years and it saved me many times, just recently switched to Escort 9500ix(was tired of annoying false alarms on V1). I noticed the difference right away. The V1 has extremely good off axis detection. It can detect a cop miles away, with 9500ix not really, you literally have seconds(very poor detection range). Maybe I have a bad unit? IDK. I'll go to Best Buy and exchange it. Will report back.

PS I want V1 performance in 9500ix body, with built in GPS and detection arrows:bulgy-eyes:

did you upgrade the firmware?

Definitely not miles....although I guess I wouldn't want miles of detection because usually when I hear it I start stopping immediately. If I'm driving on the highway and I get a detection miles away, then I'm driving slow for 10 minutes at least for no reason. I would say the 9500ix will let you know about 1/2 mile on the highway or more depending if you need (such as if it's flat then it will be longer, but if big hills then 1/2 mile or whatever the clearance in. In any way, it's enough to slow down.

In city if it was miles away well that is just ridiculous...so it seems to be far enough where you don't see the cop and then after 30 seconds start seeing the cop from a far distance. I can't imagine you need anything more otherwise your radar detector becomes your new radar.

Nope, didn't upgrade the firmware yet(radar is fairly new, made in December 2012). I will check the firmware today. Thanks.

PS with V1 I detected cops 3-5 miles away(highway)

wow yeah that is crazy far. If you are going 70mph, then that's up to 4.5 minutes of warning.

Most of us here have the Passport 9500. Valentine One is a good choice too with the directional arrows, but I preferred the speed cam and redlight cam GPS enabled warnings on the Passport.

9500ix will pick them up from far away also. Just depends where you are and what type of terrain. It's fun on rolling hills because the signal will come and go. It usually takes about 10-20 seconds from the time I hear it go full to the time I see them, so that's ~1 mile depending on if they are moving also or not. Some had a ramp up issue which I notice every now and then.

radar detetctors are useless to the lidar system. Here in California, highway patrols use that. Basically uses lasers to detect your speed. Valentine one and passport 9500ix will detect lidar but it will be too late because the lidar already got your speed. What you need is lidar and radar jammer. It will go off just like a radar detector when the cop is using it on you. So you have time too slow down and turn off the jammer. I personally would get a jammer

No such thing as a radar jammer, laser jammer yes, but they are usually illegal. If you jam to gun too long, the cop might get suspicious. Never seen a CHP use laser, but they always have their radar on even while driving or after pulling someone over. I've seen them pull a u-turn in the middle of the interstate to pull someone over they picked up driving the opposite way.

Actually there is such thing as "radar jammers", they are just completely illegal(they can jam X, K and Ka bands). Laser jammers are illegal onliy in CA, UT, CO, IL, OK, TX, MN, TN, SC, VA. All other states have no laws against Laser Jammers.

I know there are radar jammers that have been on the market that do absolutely nothing. Maybe they do exist, but it would be hard to know for sure without testing, and of course the illegality of it. And yeah, laser jammers have become illegal in some states.

So what model Radar Jammer do you recommend?

so if I'm in MI and have a laser jammer on, I can keep it on my cops won't be able to take my speed them knowing I have a jammer on? Seems a bit crazy.

I have the original 9500i and I have good range with it, but like Stu said, it also depends on the terrain. But on average, I have plenty of time to slow down.

The farthest my 9500ix detected was approximately 2 miles away and that was on a cop who was incoming on there other side of the highway.
