newb with lift kit

I drove a lifted Titan, my wife a sweet FX35.
My wife and I moved to Florida for a second time but this time into the wrong neighborhood. Long story short the neighborhood HOA does not allow trucks. WTF!

After a year of fighting with the HOA, to my surprise I was "winning". Then my wife gets a promotion at her job and a company car. We had to sell an auto and the Titan was the the most unreliable, so I sold it.

Problem is the neighborhood now thinks the HOA got to me.

Like Hell!

The FX35 is now mine but Id really like to rub it in their (o l d - f a r t faces).

There is nothing in the neighborhood by-laws against an Infinity with a lift kit.
I say stack the FX as high as I can get it. Hell how about mudders and a rack of KC daylighters on the top.

Thanks for the vent!

...... :ehh:

I don't think you are compatible with 99% of us in the forums. Our tastes in how we play with our cars are completely different.

But welcome....

Do it !!! Don't forget to add a train horn.

That's a crazy HOA btw.

I don't see why HoA would even bothering putting a rule out there like that... Most of the places I've stayed don't care what you drive as long as your pay your rent on time and you're quiet during the night, you can drive a Monster truck for all they care.

You should definitely lift your Infinity. Everyone knows these vehicles are great off road since they share the same platform with other off-roading vehicles.

Lifting an FX =

Why not just let them think they won? They don't have to know why you really sold your truck and if you make it seem like you did them a favor, maybe you'll get a free x-mas fruitcake out of the deal...

If you really do want to piss of your neighbors, here's a short list of possibilities:

1. Replace your muffler with a straight pipe.
2. Throw an obnoxiously loud subwoofer box in the back. Dual 500w 12s ought to do it.
3. Install a Stebel "honey, I'm home" horn.
4. Get one of these for each of your neighbors: Lowering kit

Welcome.
Most of users consider dropping their FXs and you want to lift it up. Nice!
If you want to spoil some blood of your neighbours just invest your $ in good and loud exhaust.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I was selling my house in another state when my wife went ahead and bought this one.

I flew down to see it and it was great for the price. When I drove my truck down and parked it we were immediately invited to a party. This was basically a "you will have to sell your offensive truck party". Thats what I get for not reading neighborhood by-laws.
Instant outcast! I love it.

I am living in Sarasota. Retirement capital of the world. I saw a cadillac crossover with a lift kit and they look cool why not a FX? I will definitely upgrade the pipes as the exhaust needs to be replaced soon anyway.

Mongolian, I have been a High School Football coach for 15 years and I know there is no way to make everyone happy. Sometimes the best I can do is dodge the food thrown at me and keep a full size spare to replace my annually slashed tires, but thanks for the welcome. Like me or not I look forward to my FX ownership and talking about our infinities.

welcome, coach!

i say lift it! Its about what you like, and what you want to do your car anyways. Besides, it'll be interesting! good luck on the ride! and keep us updated!

You okay Stu? :err:

Coach, any pics of the lifted T ?

I drive a T and my wife has the FX.

Lift it!!! I'm all for pioneers. Without trying new things, trends would never appear. I think a lift and some bigger wheels that poke out beyond flush with the fender could make the FX look totally MEAN. But don't go too crazy with the lift. Remember as a kid we played with the small battery powered - "Stompers"? I loved those - I imagine a lifted FX would totally remind me of one of those.

Looking those up was totally worth it. Brings back memories.

Along with that whole lifted look could be the side bars and brush gaurds - you could totally play up the "crossover" part of the FX especially since you don't plan on actually abusing it off-road.

The FX is not a truck - you have the HOA by the balls there. Check the by-laws on modified vehicles tho - if they went so far as to outlaw trucks, there's probably other carefully thought out details and loopholes that might allow them to pass judgment. Know what you are up against before shoving it in their faces. And a lot of times old farts have a lot of spare time on their hands so you could be starting a war you won't want to stick out in the long run. Just sayin.

And I absolutely love the fact that you joined this forum just for this reason - totally great. I'd be happy to help you out with your project any way I can should you need another pro-you opinion.

Totally right on not pleasing everybody. You asked about lifting and got a lot of no help, especially since you didn't ask for opinions.

So that being said - there are several coil-over options being testing right now and they are adjustable. Where as most people use them to lower, I don't see why you can't get them higher. We're only talking an inch or maybe two at the most - maybe more with a custom order. But realistically I think you are looking at a custom lift job and would have to find a shop in your area that does that kind of thing.

Along with doing something like that, you might want to check into suspension bracing as well - most of the performance modders here in this forum use them to improve handling and stability - I would think they are more important when you raise the center of gravity. You can also buy a FX45 sway bar and install that on the 35, which I would also recommend along with the aftermarket bracing. And if you are getting higher and big-ass tires (rotational weight) then you might want to look into aftermarket brakes & bigger rotors as well.

Oh yeah - welcome to IS!

Yes - but bigger tires! Lifting requires balance with the size wheels. I actually like it!!! HA! Not for me, of course - but on somebody else's FX - freakin awesome. I want to make a poster of this and put it on my wall.
