newb with lift kit

I say do it! Be a pioneer, but this would be VERY expensive undertaking. Possible extension of the driveshaft, bigger heavier tires would probably result in the need to regear, all the bump stops needing to be shaved down. And overall since nobody has done it, nobody can tell you what works/ doesn't ( although we can give a lot of helpful advice) Be like TurboCad, and do something that nobody has ever done before and HOPE everything works out.

I'm sure this was more of a rant than a real undertaking, but I would really like to see it done. I really like Soonster's rendition, not really plausible do to this being an rc car, but it is a sweet image:

That looks bad ass!!!!!!!

Thanks for the support IS. Its a silver 03 FX35 RWD. I love the lifted photos but I'm thinking more along the lines of a military staff car or a slightly lifted rally look. For the military look I'm thinking 17" solid or outlaw black rims with a Nitto or Dick Cepek toothy tread. I know smaller and solid sounds odd but study the german and russian staff cars of WW2 they all had little rims with large treaded tires and they all meant business. Maybe a 1 -2 inch lift at best. If I cant keep the work tight I probably will do something else.

I have a computer design degree and when I have time I'll draw up some concepts in Adobe Illustrator of whats in my mind. As for the Rally version I don't really have a clue whats going on. Guess I need to study some Paris-Dakar photos.

I do know that I don't want stickers all over it, just tires rims and the aggressive stance (possibly some smartly placed Hella aux's. Right now Im just fishing for some lift kits that would work. Never lifted a car before. The suggestions are great. Thanks

When I start coaching again the highly recognizable FX should send chills down the spine's of any of my players acting a fool in the neighborhood streets during football season. At worst the car would see a pot-holed gravel road.

HOA's are vicious but I have a hunch that these retiree's are more worried about their health care benefits right now. I'll post a pic of my Titan when I figure out how. But it had a 6 1/2 in Pro comp Lift with 35in BFG's. 3 8in Hella's Rally light bar in front.

Thanks again for the great support!

IS is gettin a lil boring w/ all these FXs trying to look similar, i think the coach is onto something. I agree w/ a few comments that lifting a car just to piss off your neighbors is prolly not a neighborly thing to do tho.

Yeah, I was thinking just a mini lift for your FX. I have Cooper All Terrains on mine and to me they look fine.

Good luck with your project!

i mean, do what you want, to each their own, but i would like to see a slammed fx on bags or coil overs :)

time for some chops.....

to do any kind of serious mod to the fx to make it a lifted 4X4 would be cool, but it'll take more than just raising the stock suspension really... maybe drop the fx onto a titan frame & drivetrain, now were talking... or get it real high on a pair of dana axles with a tube frame.... big foot syle, would be killer

ok, too much? ah, I guess I could see it looking good even with a mild lift & the "right" wheel setup if you like that sort of thing, kinda pointless if it's a RWD though...

I didn't think you were serious at all about this whole "pissing off the neighborhood" deal. As it appears you might be, I have a couple pieces of more realistic advice. I assume that's why you posted this subject on a forum in the first place...to get opinions.

1. The thing about HOA's in general is that they are associations of residents who collectively decide the rules and regulations of their environment. Just because there isn't a "no modified vehicle" rule right now, doesn't mean they won't have a midnight meeting to make one the first time you come home with a loud exhaust or skyjacked FX. You can't get them by the balls on anything because they have the unending ability to make new rules. Spend 10K lifting your FX with muddin' tires and you will get a "no lifted FX with muddin' tires" HOA amendment on your doorstep.

2. Make sure whatever you do is 100% legal, in particular the exhaust mods. Old people love to call the cops and it's much easier to dial the phone than make an HOA rule.

3. Consider city ordinances. Here in Portland, OR there is a noise ordinance that basically says that within the Portland city limits "regardless of the time of day, disturbing your neighbors with noise is not allowed." Basically if more than one of your neighbors call the cops about your disturbance, you get a couple warnings and then an endless stream of fines.

4. I agree with Jumbo about the elderly having a tremendous amount of free time. If there's one thing old people love more than calling the cops, its banding together to screw over young people. This is especially true if there is a "power struggle" involved. I don't know about you, but that doesn't exactly sound like a good way to spend my free time.

5. The FX is based on a sports car and thus is not very conducive to lifting. I think if you are able to pull it off, you'll end up with the worlds worst performing 4x4 (that isn't even a 4x4) and every time you get in it you will think about the sweet 4x4 Titan you used to have. That in turn will make you even more pissed at your neighbors, which will perpetuate this cycle until your neighbors die. At which point they will be replaced with more HOA loving geriatrics...

Just my $.02.

Consider a bull bar with Hella's like bcheng4jc's old FX.

Get a Yakima Basket Case for the roof.

Even just get the same ride height as MAZZZUR's FX.

Then you're set... You won't need to do much to make it look high and agressive especially if it's just for HOA.

almost anything can be lifted & look badass if done right, the fx would look better than any one of these I think

^None of those cars utilize monocoque chassis architecture like the FX. It's not like you can just weld up some brackets and drop an FX body onto an old Chevy V8 truck frame... or any truck frame for that matter.

That monster 'vette that says "REDNECK" on the back is classic.

you want to piss them off?

I think you wouldn't be happy lifting the FX, it more luxury than ruggit. Put a loud exhaust on it but stay within the legal limits. mod the hell out of the FX change the headers etc. Then go wide open throttle from stop sign to stop sign. that will piss the neighbors off.
