3M Carbon DI-NOC Film

It has two screw in the back of the steering wheel then I think u for to take the whole steering panels of I just overalyed mine and they traced it out

to do the steering wheel controls, I had to remove the airbag and steering wheel. The actual controls are held on by a screw onto the steering wheel with one screw each.

Its actually not hard to get the airbag off or steering wheel. I need to redo one the left steering wheel control since i messed up on it (it was the first thing i wrapped and ended up overstretching the material which put a whole in it) and patched it up, but it doesn't look good enough for me. I'll make a DIY later tonight.

As for the steering wheel lettering, I might try having the gf write them back in with a silver fine point sharpie or something.

EDIT: Actually this is easier. http://g35driver.com/forums/body-in...ight-steering-wheel-controls-03-04-coupe.html specifically post #3 and 4

That looks like alot of work just to get at those two trim pieces. I think I'll just try what Mike did and just put it over, heat, and trim out, which was what I was gonna do in the first place. If this doesn't come out right, then I may do the whole steering wheel removal thing. Thanks for the find though, cambo.

Its actually not that bad or hard.

Tools needed:
1. t30 tamper proof torx bit
2. t40 tamper proof torx bit
3. Socket ratchet
4. 19mm socket
5. Philips screwdriver
6. Small flathead screwdriver

To get the steering wheel off, its 3 screws total. The two t30 screws on the side holding the airbag. Use the small flathead to pop the black part of the airbag wires from the wire side to the connector side (theres a small divot where you wedge it in). Remove the airbag.

Then there is one 19mm nut holding the steering wheel. I found it easiest to stand outside the car with the driver door open to hold the steering wheel and work the socket wrench. After you have the nut off, just pull the steering wheel off working it side to side if you need to.

Then you have two t40 screws holding the horn springs and bracket, 3 screws holding the plastic trim (one in the bottom middle of the front side of the steering wheel and two on the back side), and finally two screws actually holding the steering wheel controls.

I timed myself after work today and I had it all apart in 10 minutes. Trust me when I say it is well worth the effort to do it this way.

So I tried putting on the vinyl without removing the steering wheel. I messed up on the first one trimming out, but after the retry, it came out pretty good. Just need to be REAL carefull trimming out the buttons/controls. I'm sure it'll be easier to wrap if you take the steering wheel out, but I just wanted to show it done without removing the steering wheel.

I finally got around doing this tonight. It took longer than I thought (~3 hours) but I was making sure I did it right and not have to redo anything.

I left the door handles for later ...

Q. do I have to remove the door panels?

looks great, for the door handle trim they just pop off

Mine started peeling up a little by the corners of the cup holder, especially when the sun is out.

Hey Gchristopher - a couple of 'easy' questions. first - I love the look!
The aluminum console on mine is pretty scratched up and I plan to cover it with probably silver carbon fiber. How do you remove the console/ashtray/cupholder to cover it? Where did you get the shift knob?

You have to pull the clock piece out first. then the console will come out after it, just pull it straight up. You'll have to take your shift knob off too. Then just disconnect all the plugs. Once you get a look at the underside of the console it'll be obvious how it all comes apart.

My shift knob is a made by Momo.

Just bought a roll of this stuff to wrap my friend's entire car in it. I have some left over if you guys are interested in getting it for cheaper than what everyone else is selling it for :)

It's the black finish that they offer.

I'm having all my trim picked up tomorrow to be wrapped (yes, I'm lazy). I'm hoping it doesn't start to peel after time. I'm thinking of having them lightly sand and primer the trim first to make the surface more receptive. Besides fxlr8 has anyone else had problems with peeling?

I had this installed in my car for a few weeks. everything looked perfect, until one day it hit about 95 in Boston. When I went out to my car after work, all my corners where I heated the vinyl to stretch it had shrunk back to its normal size. If i were going to do it again i would just cut it to size as one flat piece rather than stretch it around the corners. I used the primer and when i peeled it all off today, it was stuck on there really well. I dont think primer will keep this from happening once everything heats up in the sun.

Well I installed some of the carbon film on my center console and over my steering wheel controls. I like the way it turned out:laugh:. Yes, I did not do the ashtray and cup holder covers:tongue (2):. I tried but could not make it look clean and not show the "cut". O well Im pleased with the outcome. Next will me the door handles and the center controls. All going to be the same "black carbon" style. It was no mistake that the lines match up on the last shot. Took me a while to line them up so they meet cross ways like that.

Just pull gently, be careful they are held in by 4 small clips on the corners. Also watch out for little "green pegs" that are for the pressure switches. Also I did all the door handles today. Happy with the results:smile (2):
