Jumbo Boost

SFR transmission - did this replace the GTM or was that more bad info on my part? I have never seen any of the high WHP built 5ATs. Glad to know it's possible. Is the SFR a built OEM transmission or a swap/replacement?

Yes checked out the website and only says `Build Transmission` now i am not in the position to swap being on the other side of the pond, so would be fine to first now what you guys specific offer for these transmissions, so what the 3K all contains and if it can be bought seperatly also.
Keep in mind that some of us already have certain parts on there car.

call tim at sfr and he will go into detail with you on what is all replaced or changed. i know for a fact that he is able to put in an extra two to three clutch packs in there. he also includes a vb upgrade and changes out whatever is worn. if you want a beefed up tc, its extra.

Finally got around to a few photos of the engine bay. First ones since the FX came home 8 days ago. The engine bay is MUCH harder to detail now.

First shot is the open fog light port. Plan is to actually duct both of these - one to the intercooler and one to the intake. Future project. For now I like peeking at the IC pipes.

pix010.jpg

pix009.jpg

The entire "cold side" was coated with a ceramic silver - from the turbo through the intercooler to the throttle body. The hot side was coated ceramic black - exhaust manifolds to the turbo and all the way to the Stillen merge.

pix012.jpg

The oil catch can has a temporary breather on it. I'm thinking about going to a dual can setup. The PCV has been drilled out.

pix005.jpg

Custom radiator pipe made to avoid the hot up-pipe. Both are ceramic coated. When I get a new radiator I'm sure these will be tweaked to fit.

Spent about two hours removing the old fire blanket, cleaning the hood, laying down a layer of Dynamat Extreme, then fitting and trimming the Hoodliner. All the peices I trimmed off went inside the battery and brake compartments against the firewall.

Looks good man, how did the hood liner work out? Significant volume reduction? Are you trying to reduce the turbo noise or the intake noise? (whine or growl?)

Hoodliner absolutely had a positive impact on overall engine noise. Just trying to reduce baseline noise in the cabin - worst under acceleration. It's not a terrible thing, but I've always wanted to keep that luxury quality balanced with the power.

my mota jus lowda now.

To give a comparison - there is about the same amount of noise in the cabin now as when I tried using solid motor mounts for a couple months. I can get used to the noise but I'd rather have my cake and eat it too.

Nice, really liking that you are still focused on quality of the ride as well. Its a balancing act but I would be in the same camp if I were in your shoes (does that sound odd =)). Car gets too loud/too rough and it takes away from the user experience....Love to see all your hard work some day.

+1 :tonguey:

Question: Did you use the special dynamat for the hood or you used some of the bulk kit you bought...??

Yes - bulk pack of Dynamat Extreme. The Hoodliner actually recommends installation this way (of course to buy more of their products!)! I used three full sheets of Dynamat Extreme and then the Hoodliner - trimmed to fit up to the weather seals. All the trimmed pieces went into the battery and brake compartments against the firewall. The bulk pack comes with 9 sheets, so I have six more. That should be enough to do the trunk and maybe the window pillars as well.

Jumbo,

The GT35R is oil bricated and water-cooled. Where did you add/connect the feed and return lines...??

I'll take some photos to show where the oil lines are routed. I know we tapped the oil pan for the return line and I believe we used an existing line for the oil feed.

Got a note from the shop this evening:

" Sway bars are in, bunch of front end work to make koyo work, manifolds are back from coating and installed, piping is reinstalled, if all goes according to plan the FX will fire up tomorrow :-) "

Which to me says tuning will begin tomorrow. I know there is still a bit of fab work to do for my new catch can, plus we are talking about metal under-body panels to protect the important bits. I don't think I will have it back before the new year.

Exciting......!!! Your a patient man just like me.......forced into patience that is.

Clear on the oil lines........and what about tha water lines......??

Also what did you had to do on th koyo to make it fit....?? Any pics on that as i'll probably need to do the same on my PWR......??

Ray - I plan to answer all your questions but it is difficult without the car. Once I take delivery and can take pictures at will - I can show you a lot of the details you are curious about.

It has been a while since I posted progress. The main driver has been the ceramic coating place. Since before Thanksgiving they have had business problems and my parts (charge pipe and exhaust manifolds) have become collateral damage. Luckily I believe the shop finally got the parts back and finished the polishing by hand rather than wait for the vendor.

The recently installed brand new CRHA for the GT35R.

Not a problem buddy  If you would be able to get me the oilfilter part number first then i can make my shipment ready. The rest will come in time.....no hurry.

Thanks...!!

That is 2 inch less in height...?? would that still be enough for our set-up....??

And any idea about your fuel line.....i'n doubting wich one to take....

Yes - it is two inches shorter. The specification says it filters 45 gallons per minute as compared to the 60 GPM of the taller filter.

Fuel line - I used the same sizes as OEM, but converted to a fuel return system. The fuel feed line remains the same, the fuel return line is a rubber hose with an internal diameter the same as the feed hard line.

----------

Quick update - We are getting close!!!

We finally got the cross pipe coated and back from the vendor. This was a TWO MONTH delay - the vendor had some employee issues and at one point my shop pulled the work away from them, but then realized we can't match that coating exactly unless we use the same vendor. So after a threatening conversation, the coating shop turned it around in five days. We added a V-band clamp to the center of the cross pipe to make dissassembly easier.

Here she is before install:

2011-01-13_17-06-53_761.jpg

The other completed item I requested is a battery cut-off switch. With as often as I work on my car, I hate having to remove the negative cable so often. This makes it cake to remove grounding and I can also use it as an anti-theft precaution if I'm parking someplace public for extended periods. Location of the switch is hidden.

2011-01-07_11-15-14_337.jpg

Currently the tuning of the ECU is being worked out. Base maps are down and the shop is putting a few miles on the car to shake out drivability tuning. We're also installing a custom oil-catch can, something I saw on my350Z and asked Powerfab to re-create and fab in house.

Also, my PLX gauges have arrived in house and will be installed this week. Can't wait to get some pictures of those - I have two gauges that are just over 2 inches wide - both are going low on the pillar with a custom mount.
