just had a chance to read through this one... pretty crazy ... I got an iPad just for this reason vs a DNX9960... nav, entertainment unit, Internet... etc... it's not a bad device... and its really not limited... I stream movies, and music all the time with no problems or issues... so i have my entire music library and movie library wherever i go... not to mention netflix and abc etc... plus the sling app for live tv... so really no need for too much on board hd space...

if your in so cal... soundman car audio in Santa clarita does the install... they have a bunch of YouTube videos on their website and online.... someone made reference to the Tacoma that's theirs... Tacoma or tundra... dunno which one... anyway already talked to him about the install and I'm hoping to do it within e next couple of weeks... ill post pics up once it happens... I'm just waiting for them to finalize the charging/digital audio part out and it's a done deal... I'm planning on moving the orange screen and all it's wonderful buttons down to where the useless clock is... I'm hoping they can make the space for it that way... I'd rather have it landscape then portrait... anyway peace...

another example of it being better than what's there now, gotta be so much better than just the orange screen at least as a media player

what would be totally sick would be an ipad mounted in the dash with a front end & then a wireless server set up in the vehicle for it. this way the ipad can do interface duty with it's awesome screen & dual touch interface, but rely on the server for media & processing power to run background stuff like nav & maybe bluetooth etc... there are a few guys working on something similar... if that ever worked out well I'd def be up for that... I'm still anxious to see how one of these screens performs outdoors... I don't think I'd ever want an ipad as a replacement to a carpc, but as a supliment or add-on it might just be awesome. also my kid is salivating for one of these  maybe a dock built into one of the seatbacks in the fx might be pretty cool for his use too, that would be cool...

Now there's some good ideas. Just a way to utilize the screen & touch tech would alone make it worthy. & As I said prior. I got this thing for my kid. She's 8 & diggin it. It's perfect for her. It was either this or a Wii that I've been promising. I just find myself using it just as much in her off hours. I'm on it right now. It's a killer go anywhere browser.

Not on topic from the iPad in the FX but just wanted to touch on it mentioned that it doesn't have a card reader-VIDEO. Netbooks are typically not used in photography were color, exposure, accuracy is crucial. Apple displays are known to be better at this. Pros are waiting for a tethering software as mentioned in the video.

YouTube- iPad Camera Connection Kit Review by Terry White

I was a 10yr Dell only fanboy, I have an account. I bought only from Dell, pc's , printers, pda's, cameras, and a 9 month old new Dell laptop for my daughter that has gone blue screen 2 weeks back to no surprise. Cant say im a Apple fanboy yet since i've only had a Mac for 9 months now. I'll say it again....Will I ever go back to pc's ? I definetly will not and will not even buy my daughters a pc. TOO MUCH WORK.

Brand loyalty claims another victim...

Dell products are not a proper sample of all windows based computing. Tech devices should be assessed on a case by case basis.

YouTube- iPad in car

has this been posted yet? sweet and clean installation. I especially like how he use the ipad as a remote control for the tv while chilling in the backseat.

Very cool, something I want to do eventually once I get to my interior, anybody know the ballpark price range for similiar intergrated install of ipad into where the oem screen is now, somehow disguie that fact that its an ipad so I don't have to remove it everytime i leave the car and than relocate the oem screen somehwere else? That looks like some that can't be done for under 5 digit...

except for that ipad fitting in the center console, I DID not like anything else, no offense but that looks like tooooooo much of a show off to me. keep it plain and simple and appreciate it.

Showoff is it's purpose that truck was built to show off shop ablity. Anyways I just want it nicely integrated into the dash too non of the fancy stuff

i understand. don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong if you like all those fancy dancy
stuffs, just saying that i like things clean and simple. no much of a bling bling fan.

IMO it would be too large to have in the fx, especially if you're just going to mount it on a holder.. unless you mod the center stack for a flush fit.

There was a member here that wanted to get it done and a shop out here in California that claims that it can be done.

I called them and I never heard back from them.

I'm seriously thinkin about puttin the iPad2 in w/ this ProClip which is detachable. Jus a lil confused of how to get sound thru the car speakers since we dont have audio input in our center dash.a6890d69-7d26-8500.jpg

Well I'm ordering parts of my ipad install (sort of). I'm not going to destroy the dash to do a custom install. Maybe down the line but not now. My plan after lots and lots of thinking and looking what I could do with what was around me vs. something that would need to be custom built. This is what I came up with a little off the self and a little custom. What i'm doing is using a RAM Mount http://www.ram-mount.com And buying the pieces to make what I want and how I want it. This is how it goes.
On order is 5 different things
1.http://www.ram-mount.com/SearchResu...eria/082065077045066050051055085/Default.aspx This mounts (bolts) on the metal piece that the clock is in. It will be bolted to the right side of the plate that is (covered in 3m DINOC).
2.http://www.ram-mount.com/SearchResu...65077045066045050048049085045067/Default.aspx This is the "arm" middle piece. that connects the frame to the car
3. http://www.ram-mount.com/SearchResu...a/082065077045066045050048050085/Default.aspx This is bolted to the Ipad frame (Holder)
4. http://www.ram-mount.com/CatalogRes...65077045072079076045065080056085/Default.aspx And finaly the Ipad holder itself.
5. http://www.radtech.us/Products/CablesiPod.aspx the 20mm cable (black) to connect the Ipad to the Stereo system. I want this to be a clean install with little or no cables showing. My plan for that is after i drill the hole for the mount (ball) described in #1. I'm going to drill/cut/trim a small rectangle hole near the "ball" that a USB cable head will fit in. It wont poke out but be recessed inside. The Female USB connector will be Epoxy/ bonded on the inside so all you see is the Ball and the slit for the cable shown on #5. WhenI don't want the Ipad in the car or its mount all I do is loosen #2 and remove the mount and unplug the short USB/ 30 pin connector. All that will remain is a 1" black rubber coated ball that will bend in/ match the 3m DINOC dry carbon I already have in place along with the small slit of the Male USB/30 pin connector to plug into. I already tried and my Ipad can and does play through my stereo. If I dont like how it works/ look or is a pain in the ASS then remove the Ball fill the hole and just rewrap the center piece again. Bam good as new!
:wink (2)::tongue (2): All this for under 80$
