Gas Premium or Regular?

I think we should speak in grades because I know it can be different across north America. 87 for me is regular with 93 being premium. I use 93 or 91 when 93 is unavailable because I have +2.

I think 87 is regular and 89 is plus but 91 and 93 is premium all across the US but 91 octane is the minimum for premium standard.

Might as well put "Premium" in your FX. It's only a couple dollars in price difference when you fill up.

Premium burns hotter and will help to keep your fuel system clean and even though premium costs more you will get better fuel milage using premium.

Premium:tup::tup:

Premium only unless you want knocking noises in the future.

my parents used 87 while i was away at college for about a year (7000 miles) Do you think i will be haunted by the knocking noises? I've been using 91 and 93 now.

You should be fine but I would run some fuel system cleaner with next fill of your tank and a I like too run the fuel injector cleaner with a full tank of fuel after every oil change.

MTN FX is absolutely right - I tried this with some other guys at work for a couple of weeks as a test. Think I wrote about it on here if you do a search. Premium is actually cheaper than the other grades. How, you ask? Because you get more miles per gallon with 93 than you do with 91 or 87.

You can do this test yourself. Just buy a tank of one grade, drive normal and record the number of miles for the tank. Then do it again for the other tank. Obviously you want to try to put in exactly the same amount of fuel for each test. When you have your numbers, just divide the price by the miles driven during each tank and you have dollars/mile. You should see the lowest dollars per mile with premium 93. So you actually save money by going with the good stuff.

I always use 93 octane and for about 6 month now I being using a fuel injector cleaner every other full tank of gas.. I being getting 18.3 mile per galon. I thought my milage thing was bugging out so I reset it and To my surprise it showS 18.1 per galon.. Loving it!

That is good for you, my is between 15 to 17 MPG.:tears:

I believe it would affect the v8 more so then the v6 since the VK is a so called high performance engine:rolleyes:.

VK45DE engine (FX45)

In order to maintain engine and exhaust system durability and performance, unleaded premium gasoline with an octane rating of at least 91 AKI (Anti-Knock Index) number (Research octane number 96) must be used.

If premium gasoline is not available, unleaded regular gasoline with an octane rating of 87 AKI number (Research octane number 91) may be temporarily used, but only under the following precautions:

1. Have the fuel tank filled only partially with unleaded regular gasoline, and fill up with unleaded premium gasoline as soon as possible.

2. Avoid full throttle driving and abrupt acceleration"
The guys that are responding that say they use Regular (87) have the 35, which is ok. I have a 35 and used to put in regular. Using premium now, and never goin back.

I use prepium in EVERYTHING including the lawn mower.
I get better mileage with it in both my vehicles and it really doesn't cost that much more.
I'd say it cost about the same considering you get better mileage with the premium.

Premium only...

but I've been meaning to ask... Are there seriously any difference between the different brands? When I got my ECU reflashed... Tadashi was really specific on NOT going to Arco or Costco and places like that...

WHAT??? :hmmmm2:

Pat, I used 87 for a while back when gas prices were higher. Never noticed any issues, and I ran the hell out of it. Another good testimony is that I'm pretty sure before I ran the 1/4 I switched over to 93 only a tank or two before, and I ran a great time. Also, what is MLIA? I just saw that somewhere else.
