thanks. mtn and fxlr8

its gonna be a good project to do for the weekend...

one last question. for the transfer case fluid. how am i supposed to fill it up for 3 min? do i need a pump or something?

Hey guys, i'm quoted the following prices from Cerritos Infiniti:

... includes parts and labor...

coolant flush $60

differential service......$50

transmission flush/fill.....$80

cabin air filter............$30

brake flush..............$50

throttle body cleaning...$50

These sound like decent prices, I'm thinking of going for the throttle body clean/coolant/differential service.

Do we need a differential fluid change??

Some of those items are really good prices. That tranny flush/fill.
Skip the cabin filter. I got the carbon one for $5- on a link here on the site, & it's a 10 minute install. TB cleaning . . ehhhh . . $50-?
I think we do a diff. at 50K

My dealership charges $200 for the tranny flush (which is probably different than the $80 D&R listed above) and $88 per diff and the trans case. I'm not paying the prices for the diff and trans case, I'll do it myself. My dealership also recommends 30k tranny flush (I think diffs at 30k too) and that just sounds way too frequent to me when compared to other vehicles I have owned. Thoughts? I'll search the forum too.

Edit: just saw the http://www.infinitiusa.com/ownership/maintenance-schedules.html and read those recommendations. I guess its better to do what the manufacturer recommends. I just don't always trust the mechanics who try to line their pockets.

Same, $200 for transmission flush. Drain and fill takes 6 quarts, Flush takes 11-12 quarts. At $8-$10/quart, that does make a big difference in price.

Who at cerritos did you talk to to get these prices? Can you hook us socal guys up?

Wow... very nice video.

How often do we need to change the differential fluid?

What kind of fluid do we need to use?

Finally, where do we buy that pump thingy? It look sez as cake

Hey Mongo,
I couldn't get the video to play, but I got a cheap transfer pump at Harbor Freight. It's cheaply priced and cheaply made. I'll only use it a few times over my life, so it might last. I've used it 3 times and hasn't failed yet. I think it was $10 several years ago. Easy way to go on a dime.

Great find, Ckai! John Bolter is no longer at South Bay Infiniti so it looks like cerritos for service!

Yeah, he ended up going to South Bay NISSAN.......f'ing assholes there, no joke......

Anyway, I just performed this service myself on Friday and this took exactly 30 minutes. I did this with 67K miles on my car and the old fluid smelled BAD and looked very dirty, looked like it was mixed with a lot of metal shavings since the bottom magnetic drain bolt was COVERED with metal shavings.

This video is SPOT ON with the directions.

(No need to lift car up, just crawl under, still plenty of space!)

Materials:
10mm hex nut $2.49
breaker bar
pan to collect fluid (Smells BAD)
75W90 Full Synthetic Gear Oil ($7.99 a quart) manual says 80W90 but 75W90 should be fine
Pennzoil fluid pump $6.99 (made for quart size bottles)

use the 10mm hex nut to open up the 2 bolts, one on the top right side and one on the bottom facing out towards the muffler, very easy to get to (make sure you use a decent long breaker bar, I used a short one and ended up smashing my finger because the bolt cracks open right away and my hand flew up against the suspension bar, all black under my nail now)

The bottom bolt is the drain bolt so place the pan directly under. Let it drain completely until it stops dripping, hand tighten this bottom bolt.

Start pumping the gear oil into the top right side. pump 1.4 liters ~ (1.3 quarts) into the gearbox or until it starts dripping.

I pumped ~ 1.2 quarts because it started dripping alot and couldn't pump much more into there, so it's probably mixed with .1 quarts of old fluid.

Tighten both bolts tightly! That's it!

In other words, just follow the video exactly step by step.

Total price in parts was $29.xx which includes the 10mm hex nut at $2.49.

Save yourself the money and do it yourself! This is just as easy as doing an oil change, the only hard part was pumping the oil into the gearbox. It took a lot of pumps but it's a good workout with that wrist action.

if cerritos charges $50 then its worth is just for the sake of convenience. my problem is i don't trust most mechanics to do as good of a job as myself, they'll take the ez route just for the sake of time, maybe i'm just being too anal but theres been many times where i've done oil changes for family members and i find stripped bolts/threads from overuse of impact wrenches ect.

thats an awesome vid and i'll probably be doing this soon, which diff. fluid did you use?
