Knocking - Low RPM Knock

update: they took off all the belts and said the noise is gone, so hopefully it is just something simple.
 
what did you tell them to look for? My dealer seems to think its normal, but I think I want a second opinion... Very curious to hear what your dealer finds out.

They had their head mechanic jump in the car and I took him for a slow drive around the parking lot, driving very slowly around 1000-1500 rpm's we could hear the knocking.. He didn't really tell me much, but he told the service guy to set me up for a full diagnostic check. Driving a loaner HR G35 now...:eek: (They can keep my fx..hehe)
I will update when I find out more.

Also did you try another dealer? Try searching g35driver for mod friendly dealers in your area.
 
Thats my plan when I bring it in next time, to have a tech go on a drive with me. Hopefully he hears it because I hear it every day going up the building garage and driving into my house garage.

If my dealer still says its normal, I'll bring the FX in to West Houston Infiniti for a 2nd opinion, as they are the next dealer in line with the least amount of complaints. My buddy is on Driver, and he drives across town to go to the same dealer as me...
 
They called me today and said they checked all the accessories and the noise is still happening, next they are going to drop the oil pan. My FX will probably be at the dealer for another week.
 
i'm starting to hear the exact same noise from mine as well, i checked my muffler bearings and they where fine :tongue:
seriously though i wonder what it is

PLASTI GAUGED MAIN BEARINGS, FOUND #2 DISCOLORD-UNEVEN WEAR & OUT OF BEARING CLEARANCE LIMIT (SPECS NO GREATER 0.0026” ,@0.0040”#2) CALLED TECK LINE, ADVISED TO CHECK CAMS FOR SCORIN- FOUND NO SCORING. TECHLINE RECOMMENDS REPLACING SHORTBLOCK.
DISASEMMBALED ENG.BLOCK, PSI TESTED, REPLACED VALVE OIL SEALS. AND SURFACED CYL. HEADS, REASEMBALED ENG. ASSY. AND ADJUSTED VALVE LASH, REINSTALLED ENG. ASSY. RESET IDLE RELEARN, TEST DROVE CAR OK AT THIS TIME.

wow, they itemized everything didnt they? Glad you got your FX back! Seems like they had it for quite a while.
 
Short block replaced and reconditioned heads, all under warranty. Exhaust rattles a bit now....but I am not complaining, I will fix it after I am done with my move.
