Another Blown Eibach Spring

Eibach springs have been a problem ever since I had my Acura. There were massive spring failures in the East coast on TL & CL around 2003ish. After that I said no thanks to Eibachs.

Were they called comptech's then? I think I heard about this. Guess the eibach nuthuggers don't know their company as well as they thought.

And another one gone, and another one gone. Another one bites the dust.

It looks like I have joined this infamous Eibach "Snapee" Club, This sucks. I was starting to move out of my parking spot this morning when "bang", a loud sound, and then the grinding of metal. Got out to see, nothing. I move the FX a few more inches, and noise still there, got out to look and Lord behold, a piece about 6-7" inches long was on the ground. Awesome! I guess at this point I may be SOL too because I actually purchased the springs from someone here on the Org. I read this complete thread, and didn't get any indication of this, but was wondering if anyone actually DID NOT buy their springs from a retailer like TireRack, etc. And if they had any luck with Eibach replacing the springs. Any help is greatly appreciated.

A pretty sad day.

Bringing this back...
(posted this on .org too)

My second set of Eib*tchs spring snapped! Same front passenger side.

Story...

Wife this morning pulls FX out of the back lot and hears a metal clank noise...both my wife and daughter has no idea what happened.
Wife goes out and sees the broken spring piece on the ground, picks it up and pulls the car onto the driveway.
I come out and she tells me a part of the car fell off, I look on the passengers seat and low and behold...a broken spring!

I try to slowly pull out into the street, but within 50 feet I had to stop and turn around.
My wife had to walk my daughter to school which is a half mile away.

I immediately call TireRack and explain the situation, explaining this is the second time that this has happened.
I have them pull up my previous information, but their records only go as far back as the replacement order.
The CSR (Maggie) is sending the information to Tech Support and they will determine the warranty coverage.
I made a request that I don't want another replacement with the Eibachs, but with the H&Rs instead...I feel that this product is unsafe.

I'm now waiting to hear back from TireRack.

The FX is my only source of transportation and I'm currently unemployed.
I'm hoping that TireRack will agree in replacing the Eibachs with the H&Rs and have them shipped put ASAP. I will then be able to have them swapped out by the end of the week or this weekend.
We here in Boston are expecting more snow (about 12 inches) tonight through tomorrow, so it might look like a "snow day" off of school for my daughter tomorrow.

The other scenario would be to have my stock springs installed ASAP and then swap them back out when the replacements arrive. The only problem with that will be the cost of having the install done twice...I don't have the $$$ for it.
I can't take it to Infiniti dealer...they won't cover it since it is an aftermarket part. Plus they will charge an arm and a leg for the service!
I hope that Auto Haus (local speedshop) will be able to do it and their cost will be minimum damage to my wallet.

Does anyone know if Infiniti Roadside Service will tow my FX to the shop or only to the closest Infiniti Service?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

That sucks man. Eibach FTL.

The spring install isn't all that difficult though, and to buy all the tools you need for the job would cost less than half of what any shop will charge...

My advice is to reinstall your stock springs (DIY) until Tire Rack can hook you up with the H&R's.

I mean. If you want a better stance, tighter feeling, and a better handling spring, then get eibachs lol

Eibach springs really seem to be getting this bad rep with breaking. Over the years I have read about it on numerous other sites.
I think there is no way I will purchase them now after hearing of another set biting the dust. I'm going to wait for the H&R to come out for the 2nd gen, besides they give a bit more drop for the 2nd Gens than the Eibrokes.

I would not use Eibach in areas with a lot of snow. Us California people should be fine since we don't have to deal with oxidation/corrosion.
