Vibration issue on an '05 FX35

Tires are not a good fit? So did you have the wrong size (what size did you have?), or are the parada's not good for the FX? That contradicts just about every owner's statement...

i used to have vibration too i thought the same.. tires, rims steering wheel... come to find out it was the rotors.. changed them and no more vibrations or at least minor to nothing..

I felt the same regarding the "not a good fit" reply I received from Corp. Yokohama. I replaced the brakes & rotors as well as the hub checked at dealer. Yokohama also stated that the tire is too heavy for the vehicle...never heard of that one either. Big O suggested the Michelin Latitude as a replacement...does anyone have a comment on that tire or any tire that would be comparable?

Once again, what size was the tire?

Sorry everyone...I'm on vacation and I'm typing on an iPhone. 265/50/R20 I believe was the size. To my knowledge, Yokohama would only supply the size of the original tire size that came on the vehicle per their website. The tire size was the first thing Corp Yokohama addressed and it was verified that it was he original size.

Strange and very frustrating. I really liked the Parada's but I have to find another brand per Yokohama. Michelin is my next step I guess.

My Yoko's are great and I don't have any vibration problems. maybe my tires are too new to notice. I think most of the people on the forum are pretty happy with these Yokohama tires.

That's the reason that I bought them because of the responses that I received from everyone. Now is the research in finding a close match...I just don't have a choice right now. I trying to research the Michelin Latitude for a close match but the tread is not as agressive as the Parada's.

I wanted to give an update on my tire balance issues: Yokohama gave me a credit on the Parada's and I replaced them with Michelin Latitiude (265/50R20) and guess what...same shimmy in the steering and the base of the car. So, after spending $1,200 on new tires did not correct the issue. Here's the run down on what I've done:

1. 2 set of Parada's (several balances, including force balance)
2. Took the car back several times to the dealer, which they finally took a brand new set of tires / rims from an '09 FX35 and installed them on my FX. I drove it for about 10 minutes on the expressway and the shimmy was gone. Dealer also stated that the hubs were not the issue.
3. Replaced brakes & rotors, which I still get a shimmy from hitting the brakes :-(
4. Replaced Parada's with the Michelin Latititude, with a force balance.

Big O, which installed the Michelin's, verified that the rims were not bend and that the force balance showed no imperfections in the rims/tires.

This is insane and is driving me crazy. Any speed after around 55-60 gives the shakes...both the base and steering wheel. The wierd thing is that different times the shake is not consistant in the steering. It wouldn't be so bad driving city, but driving hwy is aweful. So, it looks like the Parada's were a good fit for the car after all.

maybe you should just purchase the 2009 fx35 tires/rims like the ones you used in step 2. I mean, if it works for you i say go for it rather then continuing to spend $$ to find a solution. good luck with everything

Good idea Pmanliu. I think I'm done with the spending of money for now. After the credit from Yokohama, I'm out about $700 and that's due to purchasing the Michelin's - they are quit expensive. I really want to give the car back to the dealer since they promised to fix the shimmy when I bought the car.

This is what I posted way back in March. I say go over the bold/underlined ones again. My FX had vibration issues since October 2006. Don't want to say "I told you so" for the first bullet but hey, it's your car..

I have a long lasting vibration issue as well. Here's what I'd recommend in your case:

  • Do NOT pay anymore for balancing, alignment, tires or wheels. I paid a fortune and as far as I understand from your case, it won't solve your problem. Didn't solve my problem as well..
  • Get the dealer measure the front and rear hub bearing assemblies. They should have a tool to measure play in those. If there's play, if you still have warranty and if the dealer is nice, they should replace those under warranty. I replaced 3 of mine, didn't solve my issue but still it might for you.
  • An additional bullet for the one above: the play in hub bearing assemblies is a known issue. Many people changed their bearings.
  • Get your steering wheel adjusted: There's a bolt on the steering wheel rack that adjusts the steering wheel stiffness. Get the dealership adjust it 1 tick at a time and test your ride to see if there's any improvement. They might say that "oh the steering wheel won't turn back to it's original position on a slow (like parking) full turn". That's not the case. I got mine stiffened three times. Now I only have vibration after 90mph
  • If none of the above works and if you have warranty, get your drive shaft checked.

hope it helps..

Also, when I used my 22" wheels with spacers, I used some thermal tape to make sure the hub fitted perfectly to the wheel. That actually solved my issue. Now I'm back to stock and I have vibration. You know what's the next thing I'll do? Use some thermal tape over the hub.. Any slight movement over there causes up-down vibration.

One final thing: What was the reasoning behind dealer's "no" to hub bearing assembly? Did they measure it? If not, make them measure. All of my 4 hubs were replaced under warranty.. Just FYI..
