+2 Timing Question

I have Cipher.. It can log a lot of parameters and one of them is timing.. Did you use premiun gas with +2? ping/knock is normal if you didn't use at least 91 octane gas..

it would be nice if you loaned it out.

as for pining, last week end in San Fran. I heard some pinging while I was going up hill. I have been running premium gas for awhile... so must be sh*tty Ca gas.

Here's a guy in Whittier doing +2 timing for Infiniti / Nissan vehicles for $25....haven't used him or know anything about this guy....I was thinking of using him myself, but after talking to Doc and Humberto, probably not going to work in my case.( my wifey likes to put in 87 octane = messed up FX for me )

"I am available to do 2* timing advances on most Nissan/Infiniti vehicles with the OBD-II connector using Cipher software from Uprev. With the timing advance you get more power off the line and more power in the midrange RPMs(Approx. 8-10 HP total). It will not void the factory warranty and has not had negative affects on vehicles who have already had it done. It is a very popular mod on Nissan Titans, which I own. Some dealerships will do it for over $100. I charge $25."

It's never been run with anything but. Could just be our Cali gas. It's not the best.
So you can see or log the timing while driving?

Yup.. It has a cool orange real time display and can log parameters using a speed test.. You just set a start and stop speed and whenever it's connected and in that range it logs everything, outputs in a csv file. I just landed in Istanbul, btw.. Call that enthusiasm :)

Well, that explains the odd post time lol.

yeah, there's a 7 hr difference between the east coast and Turkey. Btw, I was thinking about connecting cipher to navtv device.. It'd be really cool to see that on demand but it'd require a mini computer there, which I don't have.

For anyone who doesn't believe in this +2, according to my dyno's, I gained 1 HP and 2.3 ft-lbs. The highest I went was 5500 RPM though, which was all I could go up to as I hit the speed limiter in 4th gear. It shows a fairly consistent gain over the dyno graph before the +2 was done. This may not be much of a change, but it was free. Anyone who won't take free power is just dumb. A/F jumps at 4500 RPM, everyone did it. Apparently it's an Infiniti thing, and even worse when adding a spacer, intake, or other similar mods.

Everyone ran lean after around 4500 RPM, even more so with breather mods. There is a little jump there on everyone' s chart, even mine. It jumps from around 13 to 13.8, and does so a little sooner after the +2 change.

i plan on using 93 from here on out, but i have 89 in there now. i bet it will average out to at least 91 when i fill up before heading up there.

I just happen to be an engineer and do things like spreadsheets for fun. One of the things I did with a bunch of other engineers I work with was to try 89 octane for two weeks (two tanks full) and record all the mileage, gallons purchased and prices. Then for two weeks we all switched to 93 and again recorded and compared. Everybody's car was less than 5 years old and completely stock, and all have different cars. In every single case, the gas mileage improved for the 93 octane, beyond the price point. In other words, we all got more miles per tank on the 93 than we did with the 89. And if you divide the miles by the gallons you put it, the 93 comes out CHEAPER than the 89. Try it yourself. You'll never buy 89 for another car again. Unless it's a rental car and you didn't pre-pay for gas. Then go for the 89 for sure!:ever:

As an aside, 93 octane burns more cleanly and completely - producing fewer exhaust gasses than the 89. It's actually better for the environment too (though not by much). Of course, if you are driving aggressively, the results can change but if you are worried about money, then I think you have may been on the losing end by buying the 89 octane!:tears:

^ Won't the biggest variable be driving style?
Yes, but the point is that in their real world testing they all showed improvements. Your improvement will be affected by driving style, and it could be adversely affected. My MPG has gone up since the +2 though, and I don't think my driving style has changed, except for the 15-20 miles I did on the interstate to the dyno that day.

Well since I hit the speed limiter, the HP is really low, but the torque I think is correct. I did 182.9/196.5 (hp/ft-lbs) first run, then did the +2, and ran 183.9/198.8
