Any Bike Riders Out There?

Thanks for the info guys, definitely learned some good stuff. Interesting point about disc brakes, John. Never ridden a bike with them before, but I can see the positive and negatives to them. Only issue having normal brakes for me is if you go through water/mud that gets above the tire.

I think I'll go check out some bike shops tomorrow and see what they have, any sales, parts deals, etc.

I bought an Iron Horse Pro back in 2006 but got it stolen on campus last year. Since then I've been debating on whether I want another bike or not but decided to get another one this past weekend! I thought about building my own but I don't know much about the components so I figured I'd buy one from a well-known manufacturer for now and swap out the parts as I learn more about mountain bikes.

I bought a GT Sensor 9er Expert from Performance Bike and they're having a clearance sale on the 2011 models until this weekend I believe so Stu you might want to go check them out soon!

Looks nice, but I'm leaning more towards a full suspension, with less of a forward leaning feel to it. I never got into DH, one of my big regrets, so maybe I can revisit that. Price is a little high on that, too. I don't know how much I will end up riding, so something lower priced and used is probably best right now.

I work in a cycle shop and we do a few rides a week. The rides are about 40-50 miles a trip.

Nice. My dad is fairly into riding and tries to get me to go with...i was tricked into a 60 mile ride whenhe said it was going to be a 35 mile ride! The ride wasnt bad but my a$$ was not prepared to sit on a hard seat that long!

Ejay, miss your iron horse especially when we use to cruise together through campus (despite me being on that crappy toys R us bike haha) :tongue (2):

The GT looks sweet! Should retrofit a HID upgrade onto it :tongue (2):

And while messing with it, I managed to stick my finger into the disc brake while it was spinning!

Thanks. Yeah I was spinning the wheel to see how balanced it was and then went to push the handle down to tighten it, and I guess my finger was straight. Those machined edges do not feel good!

Ya thats, a triathlon bike. They are amazingly light, like you can practically pick them up with one finger. I'm looking to get one next spring.

I notice there are more mountain bikers here compared to roadies. I'm into the road/tri bike scene myself.

We had this in the shop the other day. Carbon everything. Bike almost weighed nothing.

Haha yeah, it's all brand new though which is nice. I moved stuff around to give it more of a homey feel.

I've already started buying things, ordered some new gloves, goggles, and want to get a normal helmet and full face helmet by the end of the week for riding this weekend. I hope to go to a bike store on Friday to get it checked out. The rear wheel seems to have a little bend in one spot, and I want the tires to get checked. Also want to get a frame mounted pump.

Here's another shot, after putting on new tires. I couldn't get them to seat perfectly, and I finally gave up after spending most of the day on it.

I accidentally deflated my rear shock, and my pump doesn't fit on it, so I have to run by the gas station tomorrow on the way to the trails. Luckily I know of one gas station that has free air, because I stopped there about 5 times last year when I had a slow leak from a screw.

Here are pics from the ride today. Almost got t-boned by a red light runner as I was leaving campus, which would have ruined everything. The drive there was almost more fun through the curvy mountain roads. Plus my rear shock is still too low on air pressure.

The trail was all around the same elevation, but had lots of ups and downs. I pretty much rode the downs, pedaled the flats, and walked the ups. That bike really is not set up for climbing, especially since I didn't want to be locking out the front fork every 5 minutes for it.
