New To Scene / Few Mod Questions / FX45

Hello,

First off wanna say what a nice site. I am always amused at the mod forums and what some of the members here have done to their FX's - simply amazing.

To tell you a little bit about myself (if you care). I bought a 2004 FX45 Black/Brick a little over a month ago. Every option except the DVD. So far pretty happy with my purchase. I have a company car I use during the week, so I haven't driven it much since purchase, my wife has driven it a lot more than I.

I was looking at a 02-03 BMW X5 4.6IS, 01-02 Mercedes ML55 and a 04-05 Porsche Cayenne S. I went with the Infiniti because out of the bunch I figured this would be the most reliable and 'repairable' of the options. Now that I have it, time to mod it!

Here are my questions - I have searched a good bit, but at times I am a little overwhelmed. If answering my questions, please keep in mind that I live in West Virginia. I do not have access to some of the mod shops some of you California guys have access to, so I need 'bolt on' applications or mods that I could do myself.

So here you go.

1. Exhaust - really like the factory exhaust, but are there any BOLT ON options that may sound a little louder?

2. Will be adding springs (lowered but uncut), new struts/shocks which leads to my question about rims. So many choices, but how wide can I go without spacers? Also how big can I go without having to mod anything & to avoid rubbing? I am considering going to 21" but will probably stick with 20".

3. Navigation - dissappointed with this navigation, I remember seeing something about a garmin mod, but I can't seem to find the thread, please point me in the right direction.

4. Intake - what are some simple intake mods that are bolt on? I have seen many for the FX35 but few for the FX45. Please point me in the right direction.

*Just a comment I thought you guys and gals would like to hear, I bought this at a dealer auction (used to work for a dealer in college, still have access) the day I was there, 66 FX35s were represented to only 6 FX45s.

-Thanks for your time - look forward to hearing you suggestions and advice!!!

First, welcome to the site.

1. Stillen and Nismo, but I understand that there is a need to modify parts of them to make them fit on a FX45.

2. H&R Springs or Eibachs will not cause any rubbing, but it depends on the specs of the wheels. I was riding on stocks for awhile while I dropped it using Eibachs and there was no Rubbing. Im not sure about spacers though, since I have never used them

The other 2 questions I will let someone with more experience answer those.

Welcome to the Scene.

If all you're looking for is for your exhaust to get louder, the Intake alone will do that for you. That should be your fist mod.

The H&R's are pretty popular and depending on the wheels you want you can eliminate the use by getting the correct offset 18 offset seems be nice with some 10 inch wide wheels. ( make sure you get your wheels balanced and a proper alignment.

FXtion: thanks for your response to my post. I see that you have 22"s and the Eibach Springs. Is that all the modding you did to the wheel area? Did you have to do anything else to fit 22" on your FX? Also any rubbing issues and how is your ride compared to OEM wheels?

My 22's rub with a 295/35/22 tire on a 22x9.5 rim. Slight rubbing on the rear tire...with eibachs. You can eliminate the rubbing by trimming the rear wheel wells.

1. Exhaust - HKS muffler only. No modifications needed.

2. I'm lowered on eibach's and run 22x10 +35 wheels and they rub in the front and rear with pirelli asymetrico 305/35/22 tires. I had the rear wheel well shaved. It's difficult to say which max wheel specs can go without rubbing because the tires sidewall bulge will also be a factor in determining any rubbing issues.

3. Take a look in my signature "alpine D310" for navi ideas.

4. LMS or Weapon-R are the only bolt-on intake options for the 03-05 FX45's. Nothing at all for later years.

HKS Legamax, if you want a little more and also can add the HKS midpipe

H&R softer Eibachs firmer

Like Docs saids, you need a Nav-Tv device

Docs suggestions are word

I have 25mm spacers in front, and 35mm spacer in the back. Not only I had to trim the plastic moding off the rear, I had to hammer the metal lip back as well. I do not recommend anything more than 25mm spacer for the back and that is only if your offset allows it.

My tires are 265/40-22's. I am considering changing my shocks to the KYB's and taking a 1/2 ring out of my Eibachs.

UPDATE - Okay all here's what I have found so far - put prices to see if these amounts sound like a fair/decent buy (all quotes include shipping unless posted otherwise)

1. HKS Exhaust $585.50

2. LMS Intake $255.00 + shipping

3. HKS springs $285.00 on eBay

4. Cross Drilled Rotors & Pads $200.00 (est.) any suggested brands? Lots listed on eBay.

5. Brake Caliper Covers - something I may be interested in, anyone have an experience with putting these on, I know it's all about the clearance with the rims.

6. Grille - either going with a black billet or silver - that depends on the rims I will chose.

Sound like a good start?

As for wheels after your comments I am really leaning towards sticking with 20"s. I wouldn't mind 21"s but rim choices seem pretty limited at that size. I was looking at these wheels:

OZ Superleggera 20 in black

OR

Gianelle Spidero - after seeing these on someone else's whip on this site, these wheels are beautiful.

Any questions or comments please share - thanks for your time

shailynn, welcome to the site!

2 quick questions:

1. Is that for the complete HKS catback?
2. Where did you find that price if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks

wow.. Shailynn great questions!! i wont even have to ask any for now.. i have enough on my plate now.. planning to do the same mods to my FX.. My question would be if 20's and 21's rubs.. how is it that i've seeing some FXs with 22's.. thats the size i want to install on mine.. i also want to lower it a bit.. i hope that doesnt add more problem trying to install 22's.. any help on any setting guys/girls? thank you all once again..

a lot of us have 22's and lowered and no rubbing... I have 22's/lowered AND spacers and no rubbing... the day I drove home from after installing the spacers and the 22's, I had the ol' 20's WITH tires in the back... and NO rubbing... but it's weird because the guy that I bought the spacers off (ShadyJC) had to roll the fenders to avoid rubbing, I didn't have to :dontknow:

I havent heard of any rubbing issues w/ 20's. But it really depends on the offset & tire size.

:bigsmile:ok... trainerken and psiclne. thank ya.. now, Trainerken if is not much to ask how much did you lowered your FX and what its the configuration (tire and rings) you have? thanks once again!

I'm on Eibach Pro springs... uncut... how much lowrered in terms of inches? I'm not sure. But a lot of us are on Eibach's (Psiclne, Dr2K, gto-dave). as for the wheels specs and tires goes:

Rears 22x10 w/4" lip, Nitto NT-555 285/35/22
Front 22x9 w/3" lip, Nitto NT-555 265/40/22

though, if you're AWD, you don't want to stagger the wheels like I did... it really isn't recommended.
