jimwolf TT vs. Stillen S/C

the fx is mine but it's still under my parent's name for insurance purposes.
i know that feeling. one day it will become mine though i guess, because it is the last car my parents will ever buy for me. i've been given two before, but when my parents got new cars i quickly inherited their old ones. took me 2.5 years to finally get my own. i'm glad i know i get to keep this car as long as i want until i decide i want another one. that makes me alot more eager to mod it, knowing i have no reason to sell it. i wouldnt worry about sounding bratty, haha, i think most people know that most kids our age cant own our own cars, at least not nice ones. sure look forward to that feeling of actually owning my own car one day.

yeah but its my first car....and im 17 so im not jumping to go buy aniother one tilkl i have a stable job after college. so about 6 years more haha give or take

Stillen for $7000?? I got a deal for it installed @ $5750.. The installer is in NH. Without installation it's $4750.. These are for stage 2.. Where did you get the $7000 quote???

Hello EgeFX,
I'm new and just bought an 06 FX35 with 12k mi on it. For the money, what is your opinion of the Stillen Stage 2 SC? I'm debating on SC or Turbo. And where did you get the SC for $4750? From what I've seen, that's a great price. thx

Just be very carefull with Stillen. Stillen does not play nice if you buy it used.
I've made the same mistake and my FX is still in the shop after almost a week. Each Blower has a "DJ" serial number on the side. Once it's purchased, the number is registered. If and when you need parts or upgrades, they will refuse to sell you ANYTHING unless you're the original owner. I had to sign a waiver for them to sell me a pulley after writing a long email to the GM. According to Performance Nissan (mynismo.com) even when you try to upgrade from stage 2 to 3 (only a $89 pulley,) they'll ask the dealer to provide them with S/N.

Also, if you're going used, Make sure every single nut, bolt, belt, etc. are there. If not, you will not get much help out of stillen if you need info. The parts list has exactly a 100 parts. But it includes parts that are already assembled, so you never know. Today we needed info on a blower belt size and they would not give it to us. I had a question about the Pulley color, which the guys here answered for me in a few min., but stillen would not even give me that.

Buyer beware.

My 2 cents; go with the TT. It's also a LOT quieter than a SC. If you want SC, also take a look at HKS. Good luck

TT or SC?

I have been doing exactly the same research and I know what you are going through! Here's the collection of knowledge I have to give - summed up in a couple of thoughts.

Going Stillen S/C, with headers and exhaust is going to move you close to the 400hp range. I like this system for it's simplicity as compared to the TT. Less parts - fewer issues (though I don't really know the stats on repairs between the two).

The JWT TT is capable of more than that, but if you begin asking more out of your motor, you'll need to start upgrading other systems - fuel delivery, transmission, brakes, (I could go on). So when you get the JWT, they will tune you up to around 400hp so that you don't stress the stock limits. You won't use the full capability of the TT, but that's a good thing because you get to keep driving your car.

So my 2 cents is this - it depends on what your end game goals are. Do you want to do "more" in the future? Is this a long term project car? If so - definitely go TT. You can build out your motor later, get bigger turbos, and start making drag racing mods. If you want about as much as you can squeeze out of stock systems without any real way to upgrade in the future, go SC. I think it's a good value and I think about it this way:

Let's be honest - the FX is friggin sweet, but it's not a light sports car. Going S/C vs TT won't matter on the road - you can take pretty much any stock car (not counting the performance cars, of course) including any other stock FX 35s or 45s.

Me? I think I just settled on the whole Stillen SC stage 3 intercooled, headers, exhaust, and Eibach lowering kit. I'm saving up (about half way there) and will pull the trigger when I have it all + another 25% for whatever pops up.

Update a couple months later - I was wrong about the S/C and I'm convinced the TT is the way to go.

I want to make this perfectly clear for you jumbo... those aren't the same 400hp figures.

The JWT TT kit is easily capable of putting you at 400 whp on your stock motor. That's a little risky, but there's Z's and G's who've pushed over 400 rwhp without an issue for tens of thousands of miles.

The Stillen SC'er kit can never put you anywhere near 400 whp. That 400hp claim is probably barely possible at the crank using the Stage 4 kit using a very generous dyno.

Real world, you're looking at more like 300 whp.

Isn't stock at 270? You are saying a stage 3 intercooled S/C will buy me 30hp?

They're talking about the power at the wheels.. As Will said, stock is 280 (or 275 in 06+ I believe) at the crank. It should be about 210ish at the wheels for RWD and even less than that for AWD.

279 (to be exact) is the at the Crank as mentioned by Psiclne. By the time it gets to the wheels, it's much much less. Depending on the dyno, with a bunch of mods you can get thes numbers to the 230/240 whp range.

I my SC is not even a week old and I'm getting 330 at best. I have other mods including 6 larger injectors, and a Stage 4 pulley. Also, I had my FX Dyno Tuned which Raised my RPM Limit to 7500RPM.

TT is lot more power. Plus a lot Quieter.

Now those are real world estimates. I had MD 1/2" spacer, test pipes, and underdrive pulleys and I put down about 200 awhp / 200 awtq, so 210-220 rwhp is a very close estimate of the average FX35, even with intake/exhaust modifications...

FXtion's 330 rwhp for a stage 4 Stillen kit using bigger injectors instead of extra injectors is probably maxing out the Stillen unit, and is mildly impressive considering the Stillen doesn't have much more room as far as power goes.
