Well I've been debating whether to blk out the grill to include the emblem or not to. Well I went ahead and did it. After having the emblem chrome for a minute. I got tempted to go all the way...Went by the dealer to day and it seems that no one up this way has ever seen a blk'd out grill and everyone loved the look so I'll have to take more pictures to let everyone get a good look. some of these came out grainy, but here are some teasers to view.

I like it, since you have a black car I don't think you can go wrong. You also have black rims, so it matches nicely.

If you ever get bored, you can buy an extra Chrome Infiniti emblem and just swap it out as you please. It'll give it another "look" without a huge hassle of work. You have a polished lip on your wheels, so it could also be a nice compliment.

Either way - looks real clean.

Hmmmmm looks good Dee......Ok I need to find me an extra grill.

Looks awesome! What kind of paint did you use?!

I used Dupli-color blk lacquer, and Rust-oleum crystal clear. prior to this grill redo I had used krylon's blk paint which is actually off in color, and looked more like a dark charcoal then blk and krylon's clear. it looked ok over all but I'm really please with the color match now.

I prepped this time using 250, 400 / wet sanded 8, and 1k grit paper to make it smooth. I used 2 coats of dupli-color blk enamel first as the base, because it dries very hard and resists chipping much better. Let it fully dry. if you don't and you spray any other paint on top. in my case the lacquer it will crack the base coat. So I had to repeat the sanding process. ( So note: enamels and lacquers don't mix unless fully dry).

My final step was using 2 coats of Dupli-color blk lacquer and 3/4 coats of Rust-oleum crystal clear which IMO is the best spray can clear out there. It really shines much better then krylon, and slightly better then the dupli-color clear acrylic lacquer which I used under my hood on the STB brackets.

(Another Note: if you get any over spray on any other part of the grill don't worry to much. because if you sprayed your second coat when the first is dry, you be able to remove the over spray later with windex and a clay bar). After the paint has harden you can then buff it to give it a smother feel.

Over all I'm pleased, there are some small imperfections but overall it came out good.

Gorgeous all black.
Get something to black up the bottom spoiler/guard. That's pretty yucky down there.
Next appearance mod I would do, is black'd out H/Ls, & PC black lower billet grill.
All that black would look tight.

wow thanks!! That's exactly what I was hoping you would post, I've been wanting to change mine, and I really like the way yours looks :top: Thanks again!

Thanks Fellas,

I kept looking at Dave's grill and thought about the idea a few months back and then he photo shopped a blk grill on the FX and I thought it was Hot! but I decided to go with the chrome grill emblem instead. had the itched and changed the look and now I'm happy, it came out pretty good.

Hey PhantomFX what does the front of your grill look like?

Thanks again to everyone for the compliments

Looking Good Dee.

Damn the shine and the finished product looks so good and OEM...

By the way..

Man Put some Back to Balck or ArmorAll on the lower black spoiler that is connected to the Oil Plastic Cover..

I know, when I saw the pictures I was like dam that bottom is ugly-dirty. You and Dave notice that right off, lol... I might have to paint that too, but it would surely get chipped up from the road. I actually had a guy at the dealer ask if I bought the grill there, I just smile and said naw, it's a DIY job. he didn't believe me, until the service guy came. I must be in never land cause there aren't many moded FX in the area according to the service guy at Fairfield infiniti...but they are mod friendly that is for sure!

But this stuff might be better if you're not so dirty. They have something more for restoration, FK-317 This company makes good stuff
