Supercharger question

^^you can keep your stock exhaust. all i was saying is that since its kind of restrictive, with the power you will be making you might want to get an aftermarket exhaust with larger tubing so you can make more power.

About how much more power would you get with a new exhaust? I know it varies, but what's a rough guess?

It might be time to add some more power!

Your turbos would spool up much faster with a more free flowing exhaust. Power wise on lower boost pressures it will vary.

It definitely looks like a sleeper, even when you open the hood. There is some shiny pipe but the turbos are concealed under the cover.

The only tip off to something being different on the outside are the radiators you can see when looking in front of the car. I think I may have the oldest FX on the forum - it's an '03.

I'll try to get a couple of pics to post.

I surprised a 5 series coupe the other day. Nothing like a fancy German sport coupe getting, as my son would say, "poned" by an SUV. Oops.
But now that it's been another year it may be time for some more power.

I blame Rookie for leading me down this path. And he did throw down the gauntlet in that Turbo article

btw, J, boosting is no easy job, do a good research on what you need and what you'll get before jumping on a supercharger/turbo.. Basically these are what I learned so far:

- Go for a conservative tune first, learn, test and THEN go for the big one
- ALWAYS monitor at least the AF ratio
- Deal locally so that you can see the condition if buying used
- Get it tuned professionally: each car and each application is different
- Upgrade your exhaust AFTER you get the boost to see how you can handle the change in sound
- Go for efficiency first BEFORE going for better boost

Pros, correct or add if you'd like..

thanks man i appreciate it. i'm fairly new to all of thsie so everything helps ;)

i wanst looking to doing a s/c or anythign for quite a few months anyways.

(and im planning to get eveyrthign professionally done anyways.)

- ALWAYS monitor at least the AF ratio
I know a few people who don't have any monitoring with single turbos, twin turbos and a couple of supercharged Z's... thousands of miles without an issue. Meanwhile, I have the supercharger on for maybe 500 miles, always paranoid of the AFR so I'd stare at the gauge, and watch what it does when I slam the gas pedal (all while waiting for a dyno tune) and I'd watch it every time dump into the 11's, creep up into the 12's, and stay there until I let go of the gas, where it'd shoot down into the 10's and then creep back up to the 14's.... I still don't know how the chewed piston happened, but I can only assume the J&S UltraSafeguard wasn't doing its job (I knew exactly how the fuel pump worked, but the J&S was magic to me, I just had Shady take a pic of his J&S and I copied his settings exactly)

Conservative tuning is key, monitoring is good... but if the fuel pump gives up unexpectedly while pulling, are you really going to be able to save it from the ensuing destruction by looking at that meter?

Also, sometimes the damage is done without you even knowing it, and then the real "destruction" could occur when you're just cruising...

I agree but you missed the important part :

that said, I'm definitely not an expert on boost but did a lot of reading.. I personally wouldn't want to significantly () risk any part of my fx to get an additional 70-100 hp that I can't even use in half of my driving time.. Sooo: monitor as much as you can and be conservative is my motto

I apologize if this is a niave question, but how do you monitor AF?
