Infiniti fx45 with flowmaster 80 series muffler and no resonator

question? just installed my flowmaster 80 left verything stock, just replaced muffler. after a few days it feels like my car lost some power/HP... maybe its just me IDK... did you experience anything out of the ordinary after your install? :confused.:

Well thenks to every one who helped me with my exhaust questions. I love the sound of the exhaust and alltogether it cost me around 300$. Best 300 i have ever spent!

How was the sound with just the muffler replacement? Is anyone running the 80 series and kept the resonator? Don't want to cut it off it will make the in cabin noise too loud. Can Anyone chime in on this. Thanks in advance!

I changed to the 80 series today as well, I was worried about my choice and excess noise in the cabin, the sound is very un-expected and quite sophisticated. I am thinking of painting the muffler mat black and leaving just the tips their natural color.

Magnum, if you paint, be aware of the heat levels the muffler will see. The wrong paint will peel off. Please report what changes you see in MPG. I know its tough to judge since you'll likely have you foot in it more, but I'm really interested in mpg comparisons.

Things I've noticed since the Flowmaster install:

1- MPG increase = 0%.
2- Awesome Factor increase = +/-15%.
3- It gets way louder after about a month. I've done a resonator "upgrade" and installed cabin sound insulation specifically to combat the increased noise level associated with the muffler. If I could do it over again I might get the next quietest version as opposed to the 80 series.

tchuck: awesomeness has to go way up more than 15%. But then again, you're pretty awesome to begin with so it throws the percentages off.
Thinking of sound and loudness, what would be your thoughts of a flowmaster 80 with stock resonator and no sound deadening? Too loud?

That's how I started. After a couple months my wife's complaints outweighed the AF (you're right, it is probably a bigger increase than 15%)so I installed the sound insulation. Huge difference and wife complaints completely stopped. Now it's been about a year and the drone finally got the best of me so I swapped out the resonator to even things out. Another huge difference, and now I'm very happy with the setup. It would have been easier however to have just picked a quieter muffler in the first place. Flowmaster makes a bunch of things that will fit...

Overall I recommend the mod. If for no other reason than it's super cheap.

Cost is less important than ease. I want to avoid dynomat, avoid touching the resonator, and get that muscle V8 rumble with the most ease. Just enough growl and still be cirfisticated (or something like that)

I just meant that it's cheap enough to go back to stock if you don't like it without any financial tears.

Unless you can hear one in person, I'd talk to an exhaust pro about a quieter option. The 80series will get you the growl and rumble, but it's LOUD. Not "open header" loud, but definitely louder than most aftermarket exhaust systems out there. Like I said, Flowmaster makes several workable options. Of which the 80 is I think the loudest.

clips anywhere?

I just can't capture a clip that really does it justice. It's too dynamic to record without a compressor, and adding my compressor to the recording session complicates the process ten fold. I have an idea though that just might work. Please hold...

haha, chuck. I remember you doing that way back. kinda not loud enough or something? sound chq?

These clips sound FX to me. Nice, but nismo better :)

It worked! I had the idea earlier today to record the clip at two different distances to capture both the sound of the muffler and the dynamic volume range, and it totally worked. I'll post it up as soon as I can splice the sound clips from my recorder into the video footage.

Sounds perdy, what was brand of the upgraded resonator?

I asked the guy who installed mine and his reply was "it's just a universal resonator, I don't even know what brand it is." I could probably press him a little harder for more info but it seemed like he was telling me that lots of companies make universal resonators and that there is nothing special about the one I have. I do know it was 2.25x18" and cylindrical, if that helps.
