What are the best headers?

They look like they would fit how ever they do not look like equal length headers.
ideally you would want each of the tubes (all six of them) to be of equal length.
Did you already get them?
Yeah, got them already. I know Frank has them on his FX, and he was happy with them last time we talked about headers. How much of a difference equal length makes, does anyone know ? Plus the price was really good .

With proper tools, and possibly a lift, the labor might be anywhere between 4 to 6 hrs from what I hear :err:.

I paid about 6 hrs as well @ $65/hr (got a deal). The install is pretty hard even for an experienced mechanic so I say get it to somewhere that regularly do these kind of installs. And post a before & after video.. :.smile:

bigturk, I looked up topspeed headers and the picture I found was this one
20469510059_large.jpg

where did you get yours from? link?

Thanks for the pic HYME. I got them from a member who's on both 350zfrenzy and g35 forums. I asked him bunch of questions before I sent him pp. I asked him to confirm that these are original, brand new topspeed headers and that they would fit my FX. I sent him the payment after getting a confirmation from him. I still have those pm's in my mail box.

I think I'm gonna contact him and voice my concern, because all I saw on the box was a small topspeed sticker that looked like it was put on after packaging was complete.

Is it possible there are couple of different versions ? Like I said before, I was concerned when I first opened the box because they didn't look like any of the other headers I've seen for the FX .

Well I've looked around & I can't find any topspeed headers that look like the one turk received.
I looked for Z's and G's and came up with the same thing...
header-ns350z-s.jpg

price shown for these were $299

After receiving my stillens, I have to say that stillen welds look crappy.
I had a friend of mine weld a bung on each header and his welds make the stillens look even crappier yet. oh well i guess. I'm sure they will hold but it would have been nice if the person welding them could at least take some pride in their welds.

I'm a little confused. These headers (Topspeed) don't look (shape wise) anything like any of the other brands . I was assured that they do fit the FX :err:...

As far as I can see, those are not TopSpeed and they're not equal length headers.. All of the offerings we know here (Strup, Topspeed, Stillen) should be equal length. I say contact the seller Tayfun.. That pic is not right..

I believe Ray had Topspeed as well? Maybe it's better to ask him about it..

Hey turk, if your interested I came across this post elsewere

I told him to PM me if he's serious about selling them. At $200 i'll buy them if you don't.
If I remember correctly I think the nismo r-tune headers use slightly larger diameter tubbing on their headers. Anyone know for sure?

Sounds too good to be true.......$200???? Nismo Headers normally go for $1200 no?

yes, new they run about $1200 if you pay full price.
I just responded to him today and haven't heard anything but when or if he responds i'll ask for pics. They are used though. I am thinking the same as you though $200 does sound to good to be true. Never know though.

Thanks HYME. If they are true Nismo, sure, I'll buy them for that price...if they really are in fine shape . But now I'm skeptical of cheap stuff .

I contacted the guy, and he said he contacted the distributor and now waiting for an answer from them. He sent me couple of pics of some headers he found on ebay, which proved my point that what I have don't look like what fits FX's engine bay. We'll see what happens...

Just sent the headers back.

What bothered me was, at first he said the headers would fit...than he said supplier was pretty sure they would fit . Told him I wasn't willing to spend $$$ to find out they were not the correct headers I was looking for. Sent him the trac #, waiting to hear from him now.

Good to hear you didn't get stuck with those. I added a link to my post #86 (the one with the topspeed pic) for the $299 headers if you still want to go that route.
Have you shopped around for install prices or are you installing yourself?

I might be holding off on the headers for now. Thanks for the link though, I'll keep that in mind. I'll have my father install them when the time comes, he's a mechanic .

I'm 'thinking' about HFC's for now .

coated stillens

So I decided to not go with jet-hot coating since it's not much of a thermal barrier.
Their extreme sterling coat seems good but once you add shipping both ways it prices out just under $400 (ouch)

I found a place called Applied Plastics an hour & half from me and this is what they did...

IMG_0513.jpg

It has their "Insulcoat" inside & "High Temp Black/Black Velvet ceramic" on the outside.
I was told this combo of theirs would get the highest thermal barrier and temps good up to 2000 F. $250

I'm pretty happy with the way they look. When they finally get installed i'll be back to let you guys know if the temps really go down or not.

edit: Oh yeah, looking at the bottom picture you can see stillen welds vs my friends. Stillen (bottom bung of bottom pic) looks like they were burning it on the cold side and in a hurry. Ideally you want to see really tight steps. The top bung just looks smooth

Stillens are finally in!! The install was the biggest freakin nightmare I've ever encountered working on any vehicle. Stillen instructions were a joke really.
I'm ashamed to say this install took me more than twice what stillen claims it takes.
I think I read somewhere that it took john (turbocad) something like 6-7 hours.
Bro I am shocked & amazed anyone can do it that fast, your a freakin MACHINE!!

On a positive note, I am soooooo glad it's over & they are in & i'm done. With the money I saved installing myself I added a few tools to my tool collection, some tall jack stands, & some bloody knuckles.

This is not a friendly DIY!

congrats man, did you do it on a lift? originally I went into it thinking 3-4 hours... maybe 4 1/2 tops, started it after work like 6 o'clock... it was my ride home so had to be done, but it winds up being a lot of work. I was a mechanic by trade for over 13 years though & then the last 13 years in the bodyshop may have made me a llttle rusty, but I've done it enough to figure out how to approach each bolt... some of them are little bitches though, that's for sure

agreed it's not an easy DIY & I'd say a lift is manditory unless your a real glutton for punishment...
