onthemove MOD's

Got some audio components in today. Still waiting on the JBL spare tire sub coming tomorrow and the Android head unit that's not gonna be here for several weeks. Hopefully will have the FX in the interior shop within the next 1-2 weeks. Crutchfield sent an email with specifics on wire color and removing every audio component in the FX from 03-08, pictures and all. I'm home due to the weak-ass coronavirus so I'll be having some fun installing all this shit. :)

It took me 3 days and nights to get this done. reminded me of the wire tuck. Harder in some ways and easier in others. The only thing I broke or damaged was a door clip. Got some of those on the way.
No tools to remove the radio face plate. Just grabbed and pried from the bottom up. I'm not concerned with damaging the dash because it's gonna get a face lift but it seems like the area around the face plate is always chewed up from using tools to remove it and I thought now is the time to find out how to remove it without damaging the surrounding area for when I have a like new dash.

The JL's (6") weigh 2 lbs each and the stockers (6.5") weigh 15oz.
The JBL Basspro weighs a whopping 25lbs compared to the 7.2lb Bose. Same height but as you can see, the Bose is much larger in diameter.

Crossovers went into the front kick plates for front doors and the bottom of the pillars where the front seat belts reside for the rears.

The 1st pic is for the 24 pin plug, 1 of 2 for the amp, and the 8 wires are to get a signal to the amp. It's probably stay this way even when I install the vertical android head unit. Pic 2 highlights the remote wire (at head unit) used for both the JBL sub and JL Audio amp. Both pics courtesy of Crutchfield's research papers. If I could get the whole thing copied and pasted here I would.

Cutting these wholes for the tweeters was a little scary. Can't mess this up.
IMG_20200803_103558241.jpg

They turned out well though. Whew! They might look better installed higher on the door panel but Crutchfield says within 12" of the woofer and JL Audio says within 8" of the woofer is best so there you go.
IMG_20200803_110208968.jpg IMG_20200804_092918549.jpg IMG_20200804_093133670.jpg

All the old wiring is just bunched up in the corner and the amp isn't mounted yet. Presentation isn't all that important to be but I'll clean it up a bit more and mount the amp, put all the plastic surround back in the hatch and call it a day. Not sure if imma bring the sub's remote up front or set it and forget it back here.
IMG_20200804_092711414.jpg

The whole system is set to around 1/2 it's power potential and with the radio at 1/2 volume, it's twice as loud. The sub hits 20 times harder than the Bose stocker at only 1/2 the gain. I've got some more sound deadening to do. It all sounds fantastic to my non-audiophiled ears. I didn't realize how far back the stock system was until I got used to the Hyundai beater, driving that to work and driving the FX on the weekend. That Infinity system blew the Bose system away, well at least until I blew the woofer that's installed in the rear deck. Oops. That's a project for another day.

Haha. Of all people we know. Adding weight?!
You caved, but I totally get it. Audio is a good thing.
Install came out nice and clean. Good job!

Thanks. I did cave. Upside is the android radio should weigh significantly less but it’s not gonna make up for that jbl sub. The dash speakers will get tossed and imma go after the rear pillar speakers when I install the camera, so there might be a few more lbs. Prob end up being a 15-20 lb gain. Damn!

The old radio and face plate weighed just under 10 lbs. The new unit is a bit under 4 lbs. All new speaker wire and power wire for the amp and sub were prob around 3-4 lbs. Gained 15-20 lbs like I wrote previously. This units got all the goods so I gotta figure some things out but I like it a lot. 2 bottom clips don't make contact so only 2 top clips hold it in for now. No provisions for usb, aux or sim so perhaps converting the ashtray into a plug station is the way to go. I can tell once the bottom 2 clips click that it'll fit very well. I bought this unit from Kirinavi. Easy install. One thing to figure out is how to replace the 2nd gen on the screen with a pic of mines. Gotta install the camera next week.

I'm gonna remove all the added black trim from everything except the door handles. I'll wrap the steering wheel around the controls gloss black. The interior shop'll wrap the dash, center console, radio face plate, shift knob and make a boot all to match the stone, taupe, grey or whateverthehell that color is on the dash.

Ooooweee. Trying to get answers from this seller is like pulling teeth. The bluetooth and all functions work flawlessly but I'm barely heard on the other end of a call and this thing is incredibly slow concerning wifi. Buffers forever. I like it and I hate it.

Yeah, this seller is inept. He cannot answer my questions but is very concerned about "not saying bad". I suppose he doesn't want negative reviews. Too bad. The unit is light years ahead of stock but it's not perfect. If I had the time I'd send this back to the moron I bought it from and try another but it's in and that's that. Now Crutchfield, they fucking rock!
It's too bad the maker of this vertical style radio didn't understand the difference between the 1st and 2nd generations. I hate the pic of the 2nd on the screen.:(:sick::tdown::mad::poop: I'd like to replace it with a pic of my own but unfortunately the only question I could get Kirinavi to answer at this point is that the pic is very difficult to change. Great.

Waiting for the interior shop to let me in. I'd move on but this is the only shop that will work with the dash and they do great work so I wait. The ash tray will become the new housing for the ubs, sim and aux plugs. I took the center console apart and ran the usb's loosely for now.

The reason why the bottom 2 clips do not work? The knobs housing on the new unit take up too much room and they run into the plastic housing near the clips receptacles (see pic 2 @ tip of screwdriver).
Do they not test fit this shit before turning it over to the market?
IMG_20200829_165330012_BURST002.jpg IMG_20200829_165303387.jpg

Removed material at both corners and it's good to go.

Nice and flush now.

Reverse camera doesn't work. Got it from Crutchfield. I have a feeling it's the Chinese cheapo, the new head unit and not the camera.

Also, I was listening via bluetooth to the FX's system when I started the Hyundai with the FM transmitter already plugged in. The Hyundai was a couple car lengths away and that transmitter actually stole the signal away from the FX while the phone was in the FX. God damn this thing is weak. WIFI is stupid weak too. But hey, it looks pretty fucking cool tho, naaa meee.

3368 is the correct code for the "tools" icon. Finally getting some feedback from the seller.

Kirinavi rep said they're gonna send another usb plug and a new mic. Alrighty then.

Got some more issues to work out but things are starting to look up.

is the unit not running some form of modified android OS? could you not just load a different launcher like nova launcher onto it and change whatever you want?

I'm not tech savvy enough to have considered what you just wrote on my own but I do understand what you mean. I don't have a clue if I can. I do believe that in order to do so I'd need to be online and that is one of the issues with this unit. Call it a case of "Wimpy WIFI", or call it a "Signal Sickness", or perhaps it's "Frequency Fucked". This is why I wanted to wait to buy it until enough people had and the bugs were worked out. It would appear that I'm one of the guinea pigs. Swell.

Zlink CarPlay USB connection plus internet only:

Go to IPhone Settings/General/CarPlay then you should see zjinnova-blablabla... already.

Wifi in the head unit should be OFF

Hotspot and tethering should be all off (Go to: settings/wifi/more/hotspot &t tethering) Make sure all is off.

Turn ON wifi and hotspot in your IPhone, wifi should be ON but not connected. Bluetooth should be OFF. When your Iphone ask You what connection you want, always choose USB only.

Open Zlink (CarPlay) app. IPhone should have lightning cable connected already, then plug and unplug from USB port a couple of times (maybe more) until you hear 2 consecutive connected sounds. I noticed that if you don’t unplug it completely, it will connect faster, just wait for the connected sounds.

After CarPlay is connected. Go to the head unit settings and turn ON and OFF wifi a few times. If you don’t see your IPhone on the networks list then try turning ON and OFF hotspot in your IPhone a couple of times until you see your IPhone in the networks list in the head unit ( it will connect automatically). This last step is just to have internet from your phone for all the other apps in the head unit besides CarPlay.

I hope this helps. And yes, I couldn’t fit the bottom clips but now that I know what to trim in the dash to make it fit perfectly I have no complaints. I don’t like using Bluetooth because I have T-Mobile and my service is garbage. When I upgrade to Verizon, I hope to have better Bluetooth connection but for now I like USB connection because it is solid

I haven't gotten around to changing the logo yet. Going back and forth with Kirinavi about the rear view camera.
There's a white plug which also has an rca option. Long story short, the pics below tell a story of all wires leading only to a single ground wire attached to the tablet, nothing else. How the hell will video display if there's no frickin video wire?
IMG_20200830_102507240.jpg IMG_20200830_102533522.jpg IMG_20200830_102629979.jpg IMG_20200830_102918133.jpg

After insisting this is an impossibility, their resident genius asked me to find the pink wire. He/she claims this is the correct one. Well this wasn't connected to the camera plug or rca. Kirinavi is killing me.:mad:

1st gen logo update:

Get a USB drive.

Gooogle Infiniti fx45 png (tons of websites).

Download png pictures of your favorite color FX.

After downloading the png pictures, save them in the USB drive. The name of the png will be too big, rename the png with one word (for example “grey.png“).

Connect the USB drive to the head unit. Go to File Manager app and open USB file, select your pngs pictures and copy it to Internal/Portrait folder. Your new pngs should be there with all the other png pictures from other cars.

Go to home screen, press and hold on the 2nd gen Fx logo and the gallery should pop up with your new pngs. Once you choose the one you like, post it by clicking the button far left.

There are websites where you can convert jpg to png. If it is too small you can edit and crop it. I got 5 so far black, brick, grey, red and white.

Grab a beer and enjoy.

Did the above, even converted a pic of mine into a png unfortunately I see no way to open a USB file in file manager or anywhere else.
