Hey folks, I've read on here that a few have the Compustar remote starter installed on their FX, a couple with Viper, but no others like Fortin EVO-1. Any suggestions or shared experiences on any?

Compustar seems to be the most popular. The Viper system with factory remote option also has a bluetooth start capability. I have not seen much on the Fortin.

I have a Fortin on my 2015 QX70 and love it. I also have one installed on my mom's 09 Murano, and had one on my 2011 EX35 and they all work(ed) flawlessly and the installation was super simple.

Which Fortin starter was installed on your cars? Did you do the install too?

This is the one that I have in the 2009 Murano and I had in my 2011 EX35

After I sold the EX35, I pulled the starter and installed it into the QX7- but it would not work properly. Found out that the brain needed to be updated, so I purchased this one:

Just swapped the brain, and left the previous wiring and it all worked perfectly.

You can use this thread as a guide for the wiring, it's very easy. Each vehicle took less than a 1/2 hour from start to finish.
HOW-TO - How to Install Fortin Remote Start

Just chimed in - Recently installed Fortin Evo on my 2012 fx with the nist1 harness using the guide above.

Super easy to hookup and program - except one BIG problem.

It DOES NOT WORK if you have the auto braking feature. (Wiring is different at the brake pedal)

I called Fortin tech support and they offered to walk me through the wiring process to make it work, bit since it involved messing with my factory wiring harness in tight spaces that could be catastrophic if a wire broke.... I chose not to.

If I had to do it again (which I will) - I have a local shop that quoted me 300 for compustar install and another 150$ to get drone mobile working on it so I can start from my phone.

My web research indicated that compustar is the way to go.

Thanks for the responses guys. I might contact Fortin to understand what would be involved with installing. I have seen such mixed reviews about t heir system though. Either ppl really like them or they have issues with them. The compustar has consistently gotten good feedback on here. hmmmm...

So I ended up getting the Compustar remote installed on my car (2006 FX35). works fine, but I'm disappointed because I thought it allowed the option to use the factory remote as well to start the car. Mine doesn't. Before I brought it in that's a feature I wanted and specifically asked for and was told yes, they could do that.

Does anyone have the Compustar installed on theirs and it works with the factory remote to start the car in addition to the compustar remotes? Does any other brand have this capability?

I don't have it, but my compustar guy told me the factory fob would work.

I'd be super pissed if I asked for a feature, they installed and it didn't work....

I am quite disappointed that's for sure. They're supposed to check into on monday. This was done friday evening and they're closed over the weekend. So I'm just checking on the forums to verify whether anyone else has done it. I'm pretty sure I read on a forum that others had...?

So here's the rest of the story:
I contacted Computstar directly and there IS a specific module that allows the use of the factory remote to remotely start the car. It is the CM-DC3 module. Mine had the FT7200S installed. There are a couple of other modules which work for our cars, but like the FT module, they are not capable of enabling the factory remote to start the car.

That being said, when I spoke with the shop that installed it they had discovered the same thing and told me to bring the car back up and they would swap it out. They did so in less than 45 mins and my OEM key fob now can remotely start my car with 3 button presses. :) Shop was very prompt about rescheduling, replacing and ensuring they got it right and there was no charge to fix it. Righteous :)

That's great. Hard to find shop that is responsible these day. I installed the Fortin EVO One with DIY from the :iS2: :sneaky:

I have the viper smart start and I have no complaints. I had one in my old 2008 FX35 and now on the 2012.

Yeah I start the fx with my factory remote if I’m close. Use the app when I’m not within distance
That's good to know. I think I was told different by a local installer when I asked about this capability, but oh well. What particular model do you have?

I just went on the viper website and entered my vehicle info and it told me which model was for my car.

One advise for fortin Evo. If you have the auto braking brake pedal, it connects differently and you will need to contact customer service for specific wiring Instructions instead of using the harness connection. Found this out the hard way after having the whole system put in.
