i purchased and finally got to use my yakima roof rack, nice and easy rack to mount but very hard to put bike up there without a step stool.

Looking good! Have you driven above 60 mph with it yet? If so, did your bikes seem stable? I had their Aero Raptor trays and got rid of them after a year. My bikes started shaking too much at higher speeds and I was worried that they'd fly off. And You're spot on about the step stool. I bought a small one to use when I load/unload my bikes.

i only used it local havent driven over 60mph yet, i get to that soon. and yea thats what i am looking into buying now a small step stool

I have Yakima roof racks for snow and kayak, but I ended up getting a hitch rack for bikes because it seemed like the roof might be tough to get to. Also my bike is pretty heavy. No speed issues with the hitch rack.

I have the yakima high roller, been on the highway at above 70 MPH no problems. And my bike is a really heavy DH bike (45lbs). Only problem is getting it on the roof.

If you are careful its possible though.

what happened to your front chin, i don't see it in the pic
My front chin spoiler some how broke off and flip down on the highway and I drove with it like that without knowing and the ground burn a hole through it :disapointed:

You right I love it but it's hard to get bike up there

damn, i'm scared cause 2 or 3 people her lost theres while driving

They must be pretty stupid. Like I said, I have the heaviest possible bike loaded onto these racks. And I have been well above 70MPH on a twisty road, and I was never even remotely worried about the bike.

Make sure you get the right rack for your purpose, for example the roof rack the OP has I believe is only good for a 25-30lb bike, which is why I had to buy the more expensive High roller model, because my bike is a heavier DH bike.

Also make sure you check your mounts before you set off anywhere to check they are tight.

Apologies for bringing this thread back to life, but I am looking at the same rack for my '09 FX with factory crossbars. Are there any issues fully opening the tail gate with this rack? It looks like it could pose a problem.

Personally I'd suggest going with a rear hitch rack. I purchased a Yakima and attached to my Curt hitch. 4500 miles at 90-100 mph with zero issues. Also had a Yakima 16 cargo container on the top as well (the one in my avatar.)
