Window Tint

I know this has been covered before so I figure'd I post up for a correction. I read that 20% will match the rears if done on the front glass. Well according to a tint meter, 35% will match perfectly to the rears. Since I want 20% all the way around, we are getting 20% done on the front two and 35% on top of the factory glass done as we speak. Just wanted to clear things up I guess. I will take some pics this week once they've settled and the car is clean.

I don't think that is correct, but Im sure others will chime in. I think the rear glass is 20% and I have 35% on my fronts and it does not match the back, but in MD that is what you are limited to on the front glass. Now I have a first gen, maybe you have a second gen and there is a difference.

What year is yours ton? Not 1 hr ago the tinter came over and we measured the tint level with a meter he has and we tried diff samples of tint to match with. Not that I don't believe you, just questioning it. I hope it turns out good. We'll find out shortly......

Yeah, I have the first gen 03-05, but a guy in our group has a first gen 08, same thing. So I was thinking maybe you had an 09 or something, which in that case Im not sure about the tint, only the law. If you check other post about "tint", its pretty much the same. I hope the guy measured right, but your main concern is that the back and front match. So it sounds like with the method you are going with should be ok.

LOL...I guess its a real possibility then that the the rear tents have been removed, reapplied, stocked, etc...lol. Since its only tint anything could be possible. All I can say for sure is that every first gen FX I've come across all of our rear tints matched up.

Maybe different dealers had to change the tints per state law regarding rear tint, so some people don't have the darker tint.

Well I don't know about percentages. lol

I just got Limo tint installed over my factory tint on my back doors and the other rear windows. Then my front windows I got the tint below limo installed on my front windows. Also got a strip of my upper windshield installed also with limo.

Double dark, I wish I could match it up here. I was having a conversation with a guy the other day at a detailer/tint shop. He said they always see my FX, wanted to know how dark was the tint. I don't know if he was asking for the future or was it because he had a black denali getting detailed and possible tint installation. He seemed cool, but you never know...lol.

Just picked her up. The rear windows done at 35% on top of factory rear glass is damn near perfect match. Had the fronts done at 20%. On the meter we were looking at, the light reading with 20% on the front was 10. Adding 35% to the rears made them an 8. I'll get some pics of it soon, after the water streaks are washed off from the tint. Looks Good!

oh cool. glad the tint worked out for you. Where in AZ do you live?

Glendale. Are you close to Palm Springs? Should be there in a month or so, to play ball. Ordering my Ipod interface now. Ordering wheels as soon as the guy calls me. Thanks for your help btw.

oh, thats cool. I have family in Tucson. Was just out there. I"m maybe about an hour and a half from PS.

No problem.

Just thought about this and wanted to add some more info to tints on our cars specifically...

As you may or may not know, I'm looking for an Evo X. I've read up on tints about them and turns out you need this felt material called moleskin (or generic) to prevent the tints from scratching.

It seems Infiniti took care of this for us and all you have to do is slap on the tint and you're good to go. I've had tints for 3-4 years now and not a single scratch on them thanks to Infiniti's quality construction (believe it or not).

So in summary, this is not something you have to worry about with the FX. Slap on the tints (professionally!) and you should be fine for many, many years.

Does anyone know of a brand that will match the color tone/hue from the inside looking out? I got my front windows done about a week ago (did a shade lighter then the rears because I don’t want to get pulled over) and from the outside I like the look/blend. However, from the inside looking out, my front windows look smoke/bronze/yellowish and the backs are more towards a purple or blue tone. Funny the backs are darker but they seem clearer looking out. Anyone have an answer to this problem other then remove your front tints or remove the back tins and use the same as the fronts? The brand I used was Llumar.
