Wind Noise Issue :-(

Has anyone ever had wind noise issues?

My wind noise is coming from the the window located in the Driver's seat. It sounds like it is coming from the middle-ish part of the top where the window meets the rubber/silicone.

It is a very peculiar noise that arises typically after a rainstorm and the noise is very subtle and high-pitched. I can hear this wind noise typically at 65-70 MPH, but if it is a windy day then I can start hearing it at lower speeds as well. I have taken it into the dealership twice already and both times they claim they couldn't hear it and won't do anything for me which is frustrating. I have even told them to give it a car wash before doing their test drive to try and replicate the situation. Maybe their ears are not as sensitive as mine, i dont know.

Seriously, this noise is like torture. Like a chinese water torture where the water drips slowly on your forehead for days and weeks and eventually drives you crazy. It honestly makes me want to just get rid of the car and be done with it.

Most times when i hear the noise i have to just roll the window down and deal with it, because anything is better than this high pitched demon.

What else is there that i can do? is there some kind of spray or product i can rub into the gap to down this out? My warranty runs out this month so i am going to the dealership again and im going to do my best to argue my point.

Thanks for listening.

HAve them replace the rubber window molding in the door frame under warranty before the warranty runs out. Thats the least they could do! Try putting 2" wide painters tape completly over the junction of the window glass and the top edge of the molding on the outside of the door and then take it for a test ride. If that solves the problem tell the dealer they need to replace the weather strip in the door frame.
Good luck

What go fast said, if still continues then check your side mirror if it is loose. I had the same issue and it happened to be a loose mirror that caused an annoying whistling noise. The dealer ended tightening the 3 screws under the side mirror and all good after.

Hey guys thanks for the quick replies.

I went to the dealership yesterday and they replaced the rubber rain channel on the drivers side (Part # 80336N in the below link)

As I was driving back, the noise was still there! I went back to the dealership and took a test ride with the service desk person and he also hears the sound, so it is not just my mind playing tricks.

It should be very logical that this is the part that is causing the wind noise. If i roll down the window just a milimeter, you can hear the high pitched noise alot clearly and it is very obviously the same noise when the window is all the way up, just a little quieter.

I'm not really sure what else they can do aside from giving me a whole new window or something. I also told them to tighten the side mirror and that didnt help either.

I'll keep you posted.

I know you said it sounds like the windows but it might be ur side mirrors. I know my driver side mirror makes a high pitch sound when its windy out and im going fast. Usually helps a bit if they tighten it but it always comes back. You can try testing it by folding ur mirrors in.

Did you try the 2" wide painter tape on the top of the window as I suggested previously? Put it all around the outside of the frame to glass interface!

The car ended up at the body shop so that they could adjust the door upward... they took the door off and moved it up a couple milimeters to try and fix the issue. Upon receiving the car back, the noise was still there. I did the painters paint trick an the noise was gone so it's somewhere in that region... it's just a matter of the dealership finding the issue and fixing it. They have tightened the mirrors and put foam padding in there as well. My car has been there for 2 weeks total already.

Today i brought it back in. I will bring it in every day if i have to. They have heard the noise personally and said it wasn't normal, although they had to have me come take a test drive with them several times to point it out to them.

Not really sure what they are going to try this time... annoyed.

Glad to hear you finally tried the painters tape. That certainly isolates the noise to the glass/weather strip interface. I would ask them to try to "re align" the glass in its tracks inside the door! I also have a 2011 and the dealer always gives me a free loaner when it will take them more that a couple of hours to do whatever service. You shouldn't have to be driving back and forth that many times!

I'm glad to hear the dealer is helping out so much and not putting up a fight (so much at least). Some dealers wouldn't put in the time or money unless they know the problem.
Keep at 'em! You could only be getting closer to finding the solution.

i had the exact same problem. It turns out my door mirror caps were loose and it was making that wind noise. It's a good idea to check your door mirrors and look for gaps.

I hear this nose at highway speeds as well. Folding the side mirrors eliminates it a bit. How do I tighten the mirror caps?

Try the painters tape over the caps first to see if they are even the cause of the noise. I still think the window glass needs to be re aligned in the channel! Are you holdonmg the window switch up for more than a few seconds to set the full up auto position? Maybe the glass isnt going up all the way? Good luck.

Hey guys just wanted to give an update.

I picked up the car this morning after they re-adjusted the doors a second time, and it looks like they did a better job this time around. The chrome molding matches up with the other parts of the vehicle, whereas before it looked like it was sagging a tiny bit.

The car was at the dealer for 2 weeks this time which is pretty crazy to me, but they did give me a Q50 loaner.

The good news is that so far, i have not heard any wind noise coming from the window but I will monitor the situation closely in the coming weeks to make absolute sure that this problem is resolved. For such a pricey car i expect fit and finish to be alot better from the get-go, but hopefully there won't be issues going forward.

Glad you finally have this problem resolved (hopefully)
Thanks for keeping us in the loop.

Glad you finally got it fixed. I think I can hear a slight wind noise in mine as well. I'll have to try the painters tape trick to narrow it down.

I am suprized that it was the position of the door to the body as the painters tape stopped the noise and that was put on over the window glass to door frame interface? Anyway, glad you got it fixed!

The other day it was pretty windy and even at low speeds (35mph to 40) I could hear wind noise. Moving any one of the windows down by pushing the button for a split of a second made the noise go away. It didn't let any air in from outside, but still annoying having to do this. Checked mirror caps etc but don't think it's a loose product issue
