whistling when going over 60mph + bad weather strip?

Hey guys,
There was a thread previously open that was talking about this but it was locked because everyone was going on about driving at over 100mph so if we can try not to get too off topic this time I'd appreciate it.
:-)
I've noticed that when I'm going a steady 60-65 mph on the highway I get a whistling noise coming from the driver's door right around the area where the rear view mirror is.
My car is a 2006 and so I'm wondering if it's the weatherstripping.
Has anyone had their door weatherstripping replaced because of this.
I found it here
http://www.primepartssuperstore.com...7440&callout=4&catalogid=2&displayCatalogid=0

it's item #4

I'd gladly drop $50 and replace this thing if it meant that I didn't have to feel like I was driving a 10 year old neon every time I was on the highway.

hey tekno, i have a whistling noise on the drivers side where the side view mirror is. I thought it was wind noise from air coming through the stripping as well, but mine was not. Next time you hear it, try rolling down the windows. If you still hear it, put your hand over the top of your side view mirror. Thats where my whistling was coming from, but it doesnt happen all the time.

Ah, I was looking at a replacement mirror for my fiance's TL and I guess I hit the back button 1 too many times when I was looking at the door trim for my FX.

I'll try opening the window and placing my hand around the mirror to see if that's the issue before I go replacing anything.
Thanks for the heads up and the good catch!

grr, you're completely right. it's the mirror.
I'm wondering if BMW had the same issues with their mirrors and that's why you see the little bumps on top of them.

Has anyone found a fix for this?

play your music louder. lol.

Probably not much you can do. The weathertech window vents might change the airflow over the mirror a little. I notice wind noise with my window vents, but not a whistle.

Yup, thats what I did. I know there is a post about the weather stripping or insulation under the mirror cover of aftermarket ebay LED mirror lights, but I never opened mine up to look. Mine are stock.

hehehe or you can find something to glue little bumps on them like the bimmers.

It is the mirror itself!

My mother (also has an FX) had this problem with her '05. She took it in to the dealer and the put a new mirror on for her, problem fixed.

hah! who woulda thought!
I didnt think they sold mirrors separately. thought it came as an assembly with the whole housing.

Newer member opening this thread for investigation. I dont have to go fast, the wind just has to beat on the drivers door and I can hear it through the door..sounds like the A-pillar area.

Has anyone come up with a fix short of replacing the entire side mirror? Maybe an internal gasket or something?

I noticed there is some strip in between the hinge and the mirror. (the part that lets the mirror fold in) Mine starts coming out occasionally, and I put it back in. if you're missing this stripping, you may want to see if you can replace it, or shove some piece of thin foam in there.
