Looking at either a 2012 fx35 or a 2009 fx50. Would would you rather have? Just curious what most would say. Both have low kms. I am kind of leaning on the 50 since the interior literally hasn't changed on the 2nd gen FX's or even QX's

I have 2009 FX50. I think it is an absolutely amazing vehicle. Normally I keep a car for two years max and get bored and move on to something else. I added them up once and I have owned over 38 different vehicles in my 40 years of driving. I have had my FX50 for just over two years and will keep it because I don't think I could find anything better. The only thing I don't like is the Nav and audio system. It is embedded in the onboard HDD and is not upgradeable. My maps are from 2008 and I can not update them myself. There is no aux input for audio. Relatively minor in the big picture though. Also, the sound that the car makes is amazing. The previous owner installed dual Magnaflow mufflers and when I start it, heads turn.

If you have a chance to buy a low mileage FX50S do it, you won’t be disappointed. I’ve had two 2nd gen 35’s and love them but kick myself every day for not buying the 50 when I bought the first 2nd gen.

The V8 is sweet and rare, can't deny that. I won't pretend the 3.7 is superior, but I will say (1) it's a little more fuel efficient, (2) it'll be cheaper to maintain as these cars age, and (3) is still a pretty sweet engine. The VQ was an awarded engine and the 37HR is its final evolution, and there's some practical benefit to sharing the engine with other Infiniti (and Nissan) models. It's also lighter weight and likes to rev, which matches the overall nimble and sporty character of the car. It's a good match, so you can't go wrong if you get a clean car in a spec you like. I'll never say no to more power, and I wont pretend the 3.7 FX is a quick car by modern standards, but I can't say I really crave more power in it.

If fuel consumption is a consideration you probably don't want either but definitely don't want the 50. Fuel consumption is of no real concern to me so I probably would go with the 50. You can likely modify the 35 with available upgrades due to it being used in the G and the Z but I don't think you can get the kind of off the line performance that the 50 offers right out of the box. If both vehicles are close to each other in total miles and condition go with the 50.

Truth, 3.7 fuel economy sucks too!
5.0 is better, no doubt, all else equal. I just wanted to provide a counter point that the 3.7 is still an awarded, fun, reliable engine. I just wouldn't give up much in the way of year/miles/condition to go from 3.7 to 5.0.

I own 2009 FX50. I enjoy the V8. I bought it with 62k miles. I now have 183k miles. Its been very dependable up to this point. Regular maintenance with the exception of a radiator replacement at about 170k. Im currently on a 1200 mile trip. Im averaging a hair over 20mpg. Did a high speed blast at a rate i wont state.

Thanks for the replies. The only reason I'm leaning to the fx35/37/qx70 is the age. Part of me feels buying a 2009 car in 2021 is buying an old car. Part of me also feels why buy newer when the interior hasn't changed just the grill more or less. Thinking I need to take the 50 for a test drive. I don't drive a lot so fuel consumption doesn't bother me too much although I wasn't the happiest with the fuel consumption of my gen 1 fx35. Decisions decisions

Howdy JLROBE80. I ended up with a 2014 qx70 deluxe touring addition. What a night and day difference between the 1st gen and 2nd generation interior. I feel the 1st gen drove more sporty but I did have it lowered and a gt spec tower brace. Ill see how the qx does lowered
