Which mods do you regret?

I just came across this old thread on my350z and think it is awesome! We should have a version of this.
http://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-...t-mods-have-you-regreted-changed-and-why.html
Apologies if we already have one; I just searched for a while and didn't find anything.

I'll start:
I don't have any regrettable mods just yet but as soon as I get my intake situation figured out I will either ad the K&N drop in or Stillen CAI to the list. I definitely don't need both. Also, if my tires explode on some mountain road anytime soon then my next of kin will be adding "tire siping".

Regrets:

-Buying a bunch of bolt ons instead of saving up for FI.

-Buying a used Nismo exhaust that I spent more money on fixing than I did on the exhaust itself...never again...

the mods I regret are my bank acct and piggy bank .

guess my hid 3000k bulbs (ebay brand). after 8+ months of minimum usage, it faded Red'ish.

K&N drop in... not that it was bad or anything

bought a new one and 2 days later, ege was selling a stillen and bought that to replace the drop in

I regreted buying a good set of 3 piece forged 20 s & then a replacement set of new tires then realizing after that that 22 s woulda looked so much better :k: but then I fixed it:smile:

buying an FX35 and doing bolt ons ...should have just started with the 45 to begin with :frown: could have already been lowered with wheels on for the money I spent on bolt-ons that gets me nowhere near as fast as a stock 45.

But, out of the bolt-ons I've done...I like them all...they work well together.

Buying toooo many interior LED bulbs lol. And buying that first set of 20in TSW wheels! Should have just saved it and waited for the iforged I ended up buying anways.

Swapping out the OEM motor mounts for solid polyurethane mounts. I rode around on them for six weeks before buying new OEM mounts and switching back. That was when I decided I really needed to retain the luxury aspects of the car instead of going strictly performance.

On the upside it gave me a chance to heat wrap my exhaust manifold...

not a real regret per se but i do MISS the soft "PURRRR" of my stock 45 exhaust. as someone else posted, the oem 45 exhaust has a exotic almost italian tone to it.

I don't regret any money I've invested into my truck. My only regret is letting my mom move my truck, literally a few feet. She curbed my front rim... It was powder coated flat black, now it looks like a zebra rim. :(

Truck? I believe the appropriate term for the FX is "ride" (or car, or vehicle, but never truck) bro......... :) Now if you can fit a gun rack in there....

Spending money on a new set of tires when my old set turned out to be perfectly fine and my wheels were out of balance. But, the new tires are so much better than the old so I am not as regretful as I could be.

Caliper paint :frown:

Horrible idea. I liked the rotors, and planned on doing the "Time Attack" look way late in the game after it had been played out for a solid year or so, and only ended up getting around to the red calipers and didn't get the black/red-lip wheels. If I could do it over again I wouldn't have wasted my time.

Runner up is lightweight pulleys, what a waste. CNR can bite me...

Second runner up is trusting the motor with the crap-tastic engine and fuel management LMS supplies with their supercharger... if only I had gone UTEC way in advance... *sigh*

I was bored in my basement a while ago, comparing the stock air box to the Stillen when I was struck with the idea to cover it in some of the excess sound dampening material I had left over from my trunk install. My reasoning at the time was that the sound insulation has an aluminum side so it might help reduce some of the radiant heat soak into the box from the engine. A nice side effect was that it might make the intake a little quieter. In reality I was half right, and failed to foresee a significant problem.
I was right in that the insulation mellowed out the volume of the intake nicely while preserving the tone.
I was wrong about the radiant heat reduction. Well, maybe I wasn't wrong about that persay, but in reality the ambient heat is a much larger factor in heat soak, and the sound insulation application in fact behaved more like tin foil on a baked potato.:laugh::embarrassed:
The issue I failed to foresee is that the tar-paper like "sticky side" of the insulation becomes very pliable and far less sticky as it gets warmer, so under the circumstances is started to come apart in many places.

Here are some pics for your entertainment:

Post installation, after 10min of driving (even at low rpms) my Stillen velocity stack would be so hot I could barely touch it for more than a second.
