one more question that i'm sure you know. Do they make a clear powder coat?
I'm looking at two different sets of wheels, one gloss black with polished lip and one matte black with chrome lip.
I know the polished lips are harder to maintain but I like that brushed machined kinda look. I was wondering if that lip can be powder coated clear if there is such a thing.

Or is the chrome lip going to be the better option?

don't really know much about clear pc... I know that por-15 makes a great durable clearcoat for polished metals though...

when you clear polished aluminum it gets a kinda cloudy milky look slightly from the clearcoat, weather powder coated or liquid coated, but it then maintains that look & durability better than just raw polished, but raw polished will def look more chrome like & shine better than any clearcoated polished.

the draw backs to polished is more maintanance in keeping it polished than chrome, the benifits are that polished can just be repolished almost indefinatley where chrome will eventually develop rust & pits & there is nothing that can be done short of stripping & refinishing... summer wheels chrome can be a good choice if you keep them clean always, where for all year round or especially winter months where there is snow & if they salt the roads chrome can be a real problem & can really deteriorate in just one or two seasons...
 
hrmm, by chrome I mean aluminum wheel with a chrome like polish, very very shiny.
By polish I mean aluminum still but not super shiny, more of the machined look.
Either way you've answered my question, I'll stay away from clear coat if it's going to get cloudy.

I also took a look at that roller, simple enough. That seemed like it was more for preventing tire sliceing than clearance. Still a good idea, ebay even has a rental for $45
