Wheel size & source help needed!

So I've read several threads on here about varying the tire size and wheels size from stock. My '06 FX35 has the stock 20's:

20" Staggered wheel tire sizes
FX35 - Best wheel size please need opinion!!!
Wheel Width and Tire Size opinions

I'm purchasing new tires and going plus 1 in the rear, 265/50's front and 295/45 rears. I'm trying to decide on a good inexpensive aftermarket 20" wheel. Based on this table I think I'd be good with 10.5" rims for both front and rears:
https://www.tiresandco.ca/tire-equivalence-advice.html

I know the bolt pattern is 5x114.3mm (or 5x4.5") and the stock offset is 40.

What I don't know:
  • What is the hub size? I think I've seen 66.1mm and 72mm... but does anyone know?
  • What is a good source of inexpensive wheels? Aside from ebay. I've looked at tire rack. no wheels under $200 in this size.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can go as wide as 10.5" with a high offset of 25mm to get the wheel flush to the defender. A minimum 35mm offset to clear the front strut. 20" or 22" wheels of your choice. Whichever wheel size you go with, you want to make sure the diameter of the tire is within 3" of the factory tires. So the height of the side wall of the tire is important. Also want to consider a tire size that is widely available so you don't get stuck with limited tires to select from.

I have installed the following into my 03 FX35 and FX45:
20 X 10.5, ET +25 with 295/45R20
22 x 10, ET +40 with 285/35R22 tires
22 x 10.5, ET+ 35 with 285/40R22
24 x 10, ET +45 with 275/30R24 tires

All my setups are square. I'm not a fan of staggered look. I want to rotate my tires to extend tire life.
+25 offset wheels are hard to find. If you the wide stance "flush flush" look, you will need to use wheel spacers to push the wheel out to the fender.

Use these links to get the best fit wheels and tires fitments:

The hub for Infiniti/Nissan is 66.1 mm. You will need hub centric ring to bring the hub down to 66.1. After market wheel manufacturer will make the hub to fit most car so the hub will always larger then your car's hub.

I have success shopping on eBay for wheels.

That's good stuff LA! Helpful as always, thank you for sharing your tire/types experiences too!

My wheels won't be staggered, but my tires will be. So if I go with the 10.5" wheels all around, you're suggesting to make sure the offset is a minimum of +35mm to clear the front strut? So anywhere from 35mm to 40mm? From the wheel offset calculator you linked the 35 mm seems to give about 1" clearance from the front suspension. Am I reading that right?

Thanks for confirming the hub size and what it means too. :)

i like the Verde ones but for me i would go staggered
My only problem will it clear the front big sports calipers brakes
the 20x8.5 would need to be +35 offset or +40

If you go with 10.5" all around, I suggest to go with offset +25 to +35 ET.
+40 ET with 10.5" wheel probably will clear the front strut., but don't have any experience.

Here is how I read the offset calculator when comparing the factory wheel 8" wide +40 ET to a 10.5" wide +25 ET.
The inner edge of the new wheel will be 0.7" closer to the strut when compares to the factory wheel.
The negative value of the suspension side change, means the edge of the new wheel move closer to the suspension.

Since it is wider wheel, the outer edge wheel extend 1.84" toward the fender to give you a wider stance.
10.5" +25 ET is the spec of the GTR wheels. These wheels seat perfectly with the best stance you can find on 1st Gen FX

20 x 10.5 +25 ET wheel look like with lowered suspension:

upload_2022-10-11_19-45-42.png

For the 10.5" +35 ET wheel, the new wheel will 1.1" closer to the strut and extend 1.45" toward the fender.
The wheel will not seat flush with the fender like a +25 ET wheel.

I don't have a photo of just the 10.5 +35 ET wheel.
The photo below is 10.5 +35 ET with a 10 mm wheel spacer so I can get the stance I wanted like the GTR wheel. Note the fender side change is 36.75mm + 10mm = 46.75mm. This comes out to exactly where the outer GTR wheel seat. If you're not that particular on the stance, then just plain 10.5 +35 ET will work too.

For 10.5 +40 ET, the suspension side change is only -0.2" when comparing to the 10.5 +35 ET.
It can probably clear the strut, but I don't have any real experience with this spec, so I don't want to recommend it. I thought the +35 ET is already really close to the suspension!

The Akebono front caliper is so bulky on the fender/outer side. Hard to find after market wheel to fit over it. It all depends on the wheel design.
I have to add 5mm spacer on the 22 x 10 +35 ET on my 2nd Gen to clear the Akebono caliper.

kool! thanks for the breakdown. BTW what wheels are on the 2nd pic with the red brake calipers? Those look sweet! Are these all pics of your car with various wheels?

Thanks LA. I had a hard time deciding between these two wheels (Milanni Splinter & MRR-HR6):
https://www.performanceplustire.com...loss-black-machined-face/ty:Wheel:ws:20x10-5/
MRR Wheels HR6 Matte Black

I found really good deals on both and ultimately got the Milannis. They're 20x10.5, with +25MM offset. I really wanted the MRR's but was concerned with how having all black wheels would look on my SUV. It's copper with some silver and black trim on it. So I'm hoping the silver & black finish on the Milannis will compliment the SUV well... we'll see.... pics to come

Cool. Don't forget to order some tuner style lug nuts as well. Most after market wheels has a narrow lug nut hole.

What are those? .... I'll google that and see what you mean. what size lug nuts do we have? are they M12x1.25?

Nothing to do with the thread size. It is the body of the nut. You need the skinny "tuner" style lug nuts as most aftermarket wheels has a very narrow lug nut hole.

I understand that. I looked up some, but I'm not sure of the OEM thread size. The tuner lug nuts I saw have various sizes, 12x1.5, 14x1.5, 12x1.25,... Do you or anyone know our lug nut size?
