What's your oil chg interval using synthetic oil?

I just did my 1st oil change at 3766 mi. I think I'll switch over to Mobil 1 for my 2nd one at 7500 mi. I plan to increase my oil chg interval to 5K once I make the switch. While I'm certain that it's safe for the vehicle, I'm worried about the mfr/dealer giving me grief somewhere down the road in the event of a warranty claim.

Can anybody share some anecdotal experience (good or bad) at the dealer with longer oil change intervals. Ever get any grief from the dealer? Ever have the dealer inform you that 5K intervals will not affect warranty?

William (aka INFX 35) provided some experience at dealer local to us (Kelly Infiniti, Danvers, MA). He brings in his own Mobil1 & filter and changes at 5K. I'm going to use the same dealer but I'd like to get something in writing from them indicating that increasing oil change intervals with Mobil1 will not affect my warranty. I think they'll actually laugh at me if I ask for something in writing :laugh:.

However, here's what I foresee happening. Service guys give me a verbal, "It's fine to change synth oil every 5K." Fast forward a year when I need some warranty work and the same service dept verbally tells me to go jump in a lake because I didn't change oil at 3750 mi.

I may be over thinking this, but I tend to do that :frown:.
 
Oil change requirements has to do with how dirty your oil get and how much you loose viscosity over a given mileage.

for example, if you live in dusty areas and or drive in harsher environments, you'd want to change your oil every 3000k. But if you live in a metropolitan area and drive like a Sane person, you can do every 5000k.

Full syn. gives you the ability to go more miles in between oil changes. however, those stats are for normal engines. FX engine is a high performance engine and if you push it too hard, you don't want to skip oil changes.

I used to do 5000k on Mobile1 before I went FI. Now I do 3000k with Royal Purple with MOD additive.
 
I do mine every 4.5k miles and it has been fine with me. My wifes Lexus service says every 5k miles so these days with newer cars and better oils the 3k limit is not mandatory unless you do a lot of off road driving.
 
usually around 5k i do mine, with mobil 1 oil , does it really matter which oil you use comparing syn to regular oil? i always get into argument with my friend about this, he says oil is just oil? doesnt matter if you put synthetic or not

I've been going to Kelly Infiniti for oil changes since I've own my '03 FX and have never had any problems regarding any warranty work done.

On both of my FX's, I switched to Mobile 1 on the second oil change...first one was just their regular oil change.
My previous car was a Lexus IS300 and their normal oil changes were every 5000 with regular oil and not synthetic...I still switched to Mobile 1 and had them change it at every 5000 miles.

You shouldn't have any concern regarding changing over to Mobile 1 and changing every 5000 miles at Kelly.

I just saw a Valvoline Commercial that claims theirs is 4 time better than Mobile1.
 
I use Royal Purple also. I change my oil every 3k. I like having a clean engine. I probably could go to 4k, but by then the oil is full of crap and just moving it around the engine.
 
I use Mobil 1 synthetic 5w/30w and a K&N 1010 oil filter ( ///102943&postcount=3 ) every 5000 and it still looks pretty clean when I drain the oil.
Also I add a bottle of fuel system / injector cleaner to a full tank of fuel at oil change intervals.
 
mobil 1 syn @ 3750 just because the carcomputer was preset that way. After reading this thread i'm prob going to do it every 5000 instead.
